Lagunitas #10 (formerly #9)

Lagunitas #10 (formerly #9)

A refreshingly light, yet very complex flavor gives this one a very european ’Savoir Faire’. From Lagunitas Brewing: "The style of this one is tough to pinpoint--we rarely brew beers to fit any
particular style. Saison is pretty close-- we used Westmalle
yeast on a nice light ale, and the result is what we like to call an Uzbeki Raga Ale." Tony at Lagunitas calls this a "pumped-up version of our highly-touted Lagunator."

Note: 2004 edition was 7.7% ABV, 2006 is 6.6%.

3.2 sun gold color and thin honey use. sweet hay aroma with some spice and citrus. smooth creamy body with soft carbonation. sweet caramel and complex fruit, some banana and apple, and underlying bready pepperness. good but a bit too sweet
4.0 draft. enjoyed this one although believe its pretty sweet for the saison style. smoooth creamy swallow. greatly enjoyed. not over spiced.
3.1 Thanks to JK for sharing. Yellow color with no head. Sweet, grainy aroma. Much the same in taste with a floral hop finish. Simple, but decent.
3.4 From a 22-oz bottle shared by JK, pours a clear golden pale yellow brew with a fast dissolving white head. Aroma of Begian yeast, banana esters, light raisin fruit and a touch of spicey yeast. Taste is sweet, yeasty with some spice citrus with a bitter finish. Palate is lightly carbonated, medium bodied with a dry citrus aftertaste. Will next year’s batch be called #11? Stay Tuned!
3.2 Light and underwhelming for a Langunitas beer. Gold color. Aroma has citrus, especially lemon. Flavor has some grass, more citrus, and light hops. Very well carbonated and an appropriate light body for a beer meant to be a warm weather thirst quencher.
3.4 Thanks for JK for sharing. Clear gold color with faint cereal aroma. cereal grains in the body with a crisp finish.
3.6 Thanks to JK for sharing. Pours a crystal clear golden color. Nice spicy nose with hints of very little overpowering aromas. Nice medium to heavy carbonation with a bready biscuity malt presence, as well as a hint of floral hoppiness. Nice easy drinking ale.
4.2 Good for a summers night or day. Nice color, the smell was a little bitter, but pleasing, and the color was very nice.
3.1 Lightly Clouded Gilded Orange with White Head. Some Grassy Floral Notes on the Nose. Thin to Medium Mouthfeel. Sweet Malt, Dry, Bitter Herbs, Some Yeast Flavor. Tastes Closer to a Saison in its Grassy/Herbed Qualities Than a Belgian.
3.5 Rated 5/12/07: I was greatly surprised by this one from Lagunitas considering all of the beers I’ve had from them have been rather hoppy. A self-described "Crispy Summer Ale" the reading on the label mentions that this is Belgianesque, so I didn’t know what to expect. Golden and earthy like a Belgian Strong, fruity and spicy like a Witbier, and even resembles a Saison in a couple aspects. Deep golden pour, the white head diminished quickly and there wasn’t much lacing along the glass. Aroma is weak, but did produce a yeasty scent with sweet malt and light spice. Thick mouthfeel, very crisp and smooth with a slick clean finish. Flavor is a nice mesh of belgian malt and yeast hopped ever so slightly. Mild pepper and spices with a splash of banana and orange flavors. Pretty damn tasty.
3.5 Pours a deep golden orange with a fading, lively white head. Has a very interesting aroma. Fruity, with lots of honey-like malt characteristics. Sweet notes of banana and a hint of wood. The body has a lively & smooth carbonation. Flavor also has a honeyish background with a light musty-wood hint. There’s also an almond-like nutty component. Also has a straw flavor and a somewhat dry finish. A unique and interesting Belgian Ale.
3.6 Bottle-2006: Pours a deep golden orange with a fading, lively white head. 3.6 # 10 - 22oz. bottle- color of golden yellow , with a white head – full nose of yeast , spices , orange zest , and lemons – taste of orange zest , yeast , cloves , other spices , and mild bitterness - body is slightly acidic , and with high carbonation – aftertaste of orange , hops , and slight maltyness
3.4 650 ml bottle It is not often that you pick up something like this for only $1.99 a bomber. At that price I am willing to try almost anything once. The worst case scenario is that it turns out to be a drainpour and I’ve still spent less than a single bottle of Expedition or New Glarus Unplugged. This one, while no superstar, was almost good enough to make me go back for an additional bottle. Lagunitas has a good beer going on here with the #10. Aroma / Apppearance - Wheat, apples, hay and pine sol form a very inviting nose with undertones of cream soda. It is very light for a Belgian but that is what it says on the bottle. The body is very light (golden) with lively carbonation giving it life. A short lived head of pure white sat on top as I poured into my snifter. Flavor / Palate - Light vanilla flavors, hay and cream soda form the introductory base. Afterwards comes a subtle pepperiness and a trace of bubble gum. A yeasty followthrough caps things off before the dry finish. It reminds me of something that would be nice on a cool summer evening - it is hard to pick up the almost 7% ABV until the very end.
3.5 Golden, beautiful and completely clear beer with white head. Nice aroma of citrus, coriander and fruity esters. The flavour is fat and yeasty with hops and citrus nicely integrated. Lingering bitter end. The carbonation is as it should be. Good and wholesome beer!
3.3 Bottle. Creamy high white and lasting head. Clear golden body. Apple pear banana peaches aroma. Sweet and fruity flavor with a surprisingly low bitterness. Some dryness in the aftertaste and a good deal of carbonation.
3.2 Bottle...very light color, like hay and just a little cloudy. nice big white head with big bubbles does die down fairly fast. light hop aroma, slight citrus. very light and crisp flavor that is quite enjoyable. a little malt sweetness with a touch of hop crispness. very easy to drink.
3.6 22 oz bottle. Poured a clear golden color. Head was foamy and white with good retention and lacing. Smells of subdued citrus, a touch of clove, and some yeasty bread dough. The flavor is similar, but much richer than the aroma and also includes a hint of white wine. Moderately dry on with a crisp citrusy finish and a delicate bitterness on the back of the tongue. Debate all you want about the style, it’s a decent beer no matter how you categorize it.
3.7 Bottle. [Enjoyed with thewolf on Plan B] Small frothy head that mostly diminished. Absolutely no lacing to be spotted. Body was clear and flat looking with an orange hue. Aroma was at first impression similar to a Biere De Garde with dusty, barnyard notes. Quickly changed to some fruit, spice, caramel, pepper, bread and hops. Medium bodied with a flat carbonation. Flavor was mostly sweet with a slightly burned bitter finish. Great beer.
3.9 Bottle shared with Grovlam at Plan B, Cph. Pours a clear orange with a thin white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma has some american hoppyness, some barn, oranges, yeast and a roasted malty background. Taste is sweet and jumps around on your tongue. It feels more vinious than its 6,6 % tells us. Actually it felt like a ’low-alcohol’ barleywine. Nice!
3.3 Bottle. Dark golden colour with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, hop, fruit, apple. Flavour is sweet, hop, fruit, apple. Nice hoppy beer.
2.9 2006 vintage. Not an overly powerful yeast aroma. Hints of apple. Slightly hazel golden color. Airy large white head. Light sweet malty flavor. Not as creamy as your average belgian, most likely from the lower alcohol level. Disapointed at lagunitas for this one. I’d like to try the 2004 vintage.
3.2 65 cl bottle. #10 (6.6%) Golden clear colour with a little white head. Light soft aroma of malt, yeast, caramel and candy-like. Flavour of malt, yeast and little spicy. Very high drinkablety.
3.5 In the bomber bottle from Wilbur’s. Pours a hazy deep gold with a thick white head that laces forever. Strong wheaty aroma with esters of banana and clove. Flavor has a strong wheat taste and a big pronounced lemon flavor. I would have sworn that this was an american wheat beer. I’m surprised by the "belgian" category.
2.7 Bottled. Clear, lightly sparkling golden beer with a small white head. Fruity and hop-bitter aroma and flavor, where also some metallic notes are present. Medium body and a metallic hop-bitterness to round it off. A quite boring beer I think. (070216)
3.3 No 10, slight hazy blonde hue, with a small white head, leaving laces, yeasty sweet grainy pale malt, with a fruity floral hop, a subtle citrus note, hint of spiciness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a crisp pale malt, and a peachy yeasty character, maybe reminiscent of the westmalle yeast used in this beer, with a nice fruity orangeish floral hop, hints of vanilla spiciness and peaish malt, with a faint honeyish note, a mild leafiness accent, leading towards a flowery dry hop bitterness finish.
3.4 22 oz. 2006 batch. Yep, more or less a Belgian character here. Pours a dark golden pilsner/Special B color, with a flush of rosiness in the center. Smell brings out a bot of bubble-gum and other aromatics of Belsian thingies. Taste is crisp, with light fruits, and a bit doughy, with a hint of wheat. Light floral hops, and since they suggest it, kind of reminds me of a Westmalle. Yes, I’d have preferred to taste this in the summer, but I don’t know that it’ll stay good that long. No sediment at the bottom suggests filtering and force carbonation, but still similar to a dubbel in fizziness.
3.2 Clear olden colour with a white head. Hoppy, perfume / floral aroma with some fruity sweetness and yeasty notes. Malty sweet flavor with fruity and yeasty notes. Light hoppy and spicy finish.
1.6 Good old Lag 10. Aroma is kinda sweet - like its gonna be a killer alky brew. I haven’t tasted a mild Lag yet. Both Brown Shugga and Cappuccino Stout were quite impressive as far as bitterness goes. Upon tasting, it is just as expected, do they use the same background recipe to brew from? Same bitter medicinal treatment on my taste buds. If you like big beers like imp stout and IPA, you bettor give this a try. Very very difficult to drink and enjoy. This is like the bang you get from 32 oz malt liquors from the bar for $2. Why not, this was only $2 for a 22 oz brown bottle bomber! Hop and malt bitterness ensues after a few slugs. The taste is reminiscent of a mild rubber inner tube. Finish is alky that lingers oppressive for a few moments.
2.8 Sampled @ Aofoxxy’s Labor day gathering ’06. Pilsnerish nose of yeast and cereal. Pours a clear sparkling golden. The mostly lasting fluffy/creamy off-white head leaves good lace. The flavor reminds me of a Czech Pils. Very well balanced if not very deep. The finish is brief. The light palate is soft & creamy. Very fresh, perfect for summer. Almost wheatish.
