3.7Bottle. Pours a golden color wit a small off-white head. Has a malty hoppy bitter grapefruit aroma. Sweetish malty hoppy grapefruit flavor. Has a sweetish malty hoppy bitter finish.
3.6It is interesting to me that this says seemingly apologetically, "This is not a Double IPA" on the front. Have we gotten to the point that all things must be huge in order to be special? This is still a big, hoppy beer clocking in at well over six percent alcohol and I see no reason Lagunitas should have to explain themselves for brewing it. The color here is a real nice orange amber but the head, while initially quite huge, faded in the time from when I poured it to when I got it in front of my computer to rate it. This isn’t terrible but I don’t have to like it. Nose is woody hops, pine and citrus. This has probably been on the shelf quite a while and it still maintains vibrancy to a great extent, which is impressive to me. This stuff is IPA strength but it is balanced more along the lines of a maltier APA. Think Dale’s Pale for a comparison. It’s a bit sticky and sweet but balanced by a hefty does of pine bitterness and given some life by extremely brisk carbonation. No, it’s not a double IPA but it is at least as flavorful as many of them. I wish there were more breweries making hop monsters w/o sending the ABV through the roof.
3.722oz bottle. Poured a slightly hazy medium orange color. The head was a few fingers high and yellow-white with decent retention. Smelled of caramel, fresh oranges, pine, and Juicy Fruit gum. Light to medium bodied and dry with delicate bitterness on the low end of the spectrum. I tasted pine and light citrus supported by a malt profile that imparted of a mix of subdued caramel and biscuit flavors.
3.622 oz. bottle via trade with fidelis83- thanks again, Jeremiah! Pours a somewhat cloudy orange-gold color with a finger-thick off-white head that laces the glass with its rocky, creamy texture. Aroma of pale malts, sugar, honey, hops, and something I’m having trouble placing. Sweet, though. Flavor has more hops than the nose, along with a lot more pale and caramel malts, paper, grass, nectar, and honey. Light-medium bodied, with above average carbonation and a malty mouthfeel. Lingering bitter finish despite the sweetness of this. Very nice APA, and it’s held up well even though it’s going on a year old.
3.5bottle thanks to bhensonb. poured goldish with a fairly decent white head. aroma was dominate malt, followed by some fruity notes, and a touch of pine. flavor was a grassy/pine hop presence and what seems to be a little citrus. body was medium-heavy with low carbonation.
3.6Deep gold color with a frothy lasting head. Caramel malt and grapefruit hops. Pretty good pale ale.
3.6A pleasant drinkable IPA with a good bitterness. Pours grapefruit body with a decent white head. Hop aromas. Above average mouthfeel.
3.5Very smooth American Pale Ale. Malts are white toast with nice floral hop feel. Hint of citrus but not overpowering or bitter.
3.2Golden color. Aroma is of malts, centenial hops, honey, and a little floral. Palate is not too carbonated which makes me wonder if it is a little flat. Flavors include malts, hops, citrus, and it’s a little bitter. Leaves a rather flat malt finish.
3.922oz. Pours a nice medium golden, white thin head with good retention, minor thin lacing. Floral hop aroma, slight malt sweetness. Balanced malt sweetness to hop bitterness, hops dominate in the long run. Medium body, slightly syrupy, medium carbonation.
3.7dark gold, lasting off-white head. medium mouthfeel. light bitterness, some citrus notes. nice drinkability.
3.1Clear golden amber with a fading white head... Aroma and flavor profiles are a bit maltier than i would expect from a west coast pale ale, the beer is a bit old... Creamy malty body, a touch of the orange lagunitas flavor... decent...
3.4( 22oz bottle) Pours clear orange-yellow with no head but a light ring of bubbles. Nose of cholorine, pine, grapefruit. Taste of grapefruit, pineapple with nice creamy carbonation.
3.6pours a golden/amber color...ever so slightly hazy...with a medium white head. nice lacing! aroma is very faint...tealike...with subtle citrus and spicy hops. also a bit of doughy malt. flavor is also tealike and has earthy spicy hops up front followed by hints of grapefruit. nice biscuity malt backing. mouthfeel is light and lively but a little watery. finish is lingering and dry. nice beer but not outstanding.
3.3A strong American Ale with a great name. I pured this beer into my pint glass and it had a great head of foam with a beautiful color. It’s not a mild beer by any definition and it reminded me of some of the Stone beers. Give it a try and forget 2009.

3.5(Sample Date: 6/3/2009 Source:Capital Ale House - Downtown) Cask dry hopped. Citrusy resiny hop aroma. Relatively clear medium yellow golden with small wispy head. Big grapefruit citrus hop flavor with a dry very bitter finish.
3.8pours straw gold with a fluffy white head. strong lacing. nose is heavy butterscotch, green apple, citrus. flavor is butterscotch, grapefruit, orange, pineapple upside-down cake. dry and astringent. finish is bitter but oddly sweet.
3.1I like Lagunitas beers, but sometimes, like this beer, they favor the grapefruit characteristics in their hoppy brews. Think I’d like this more if it wasn’t for that. Poured a nice sized white head and lots of lace. Color is a slightly hazy medium amber. Aroma is malty, spicy, grapefruit hoppy. Flavor’s about the same. Very good body and carbonation. Finish is long on the grapefruit.
3.5Pours yellow with a big ice cream head that leaves tons of lacing. Smells like wet dog, but I’ve noticed that with all Lagunitas. Taste is pine, citrus, hops, etc. Overall good but I think I got an old bottle, I was expecting more.
4.0Pours a deep golden-orange color, very clear and with sparkling carbonation. The head is a bubbly off white that sticks around a while. Nice rich aroma of a variety of hops. I get strong grapefruit and pine. Virtually no malt aroma. Flavor is an explosion of hops as well, but not as overpowering as I expected from the nose. There is more of a malt aspect too and a touch of sweetness. I wouldn’t call this one balanced, but not as far off as I expected. Mouthfeel is quite nice. Not too thick or thin, and the carbonation is pleasant and not too strong.
4.0Bomber->tulip: Pours a large, white head that exhibits good lacing atop a clear, yellow body. Light aroma of malt, with some caramel and grain. Hops are perfume-y and a tinge of bubble gum alongside. The body is light, the texture is thin, with soft carbonation, finishing astringent. The flavor’s duration is short, being lightly sweet, moderately acidic, and lightly bitter.
3.2Enjoyed with Celticbrew, DrBayern, Uncle Tom, Brian the Beer Pimp, and the two newbies, Lawyer Bob and The Boy Wonder Chris! Pours a dark yellow with a full nice lacy head. It has a very nice floral hoppy head, with nice bittering on the backside. mouthfeel was very nice.
3.6As always, another tasty beer from Lagunitas. Golden yellow pour with a white head. Aroma is of malt and hops. Taste is malt and piney hops. This beer leaves a nice hop flavor in the mouth. The glass was totally laced.
3.7Amber pour with lively carbonation and a boisterous two finger white head. Aroma holds orange, sweet grapefruit, lemon, pine resin, bread, and caramel. Flavor is very nice; sweet citrus hop combines with a really nice earthy and sappy bitterness. This is beautifully balanced by a subtle but evident caramel malt presence. Palate holds the bitterness really nicely. Really nice APA.
3.6Amber pour with quite the lively white froth. Aroma is citrus, hop resin, caramel, bread, and grass. Flavor is sweet tangerine, mandarin, caramel, biscuit, and earth- all combine to make a delicious and well balanced flavor profile. Palate is medium to full for the style with lively effervescence and a sticky resinous finish. Very pleased with this one.
3.6From a bottle poured a straw color with a fair amount of head. Sweet malty flavor with a quick finish.
3.5Bottle courtesy of Fratto. Clear golden yellow pour. Large hop profile. Sweet and sour notes. Taste is largely hops and bitter fruit. Some sharp lemon and zesty flavor.
3.0Bottle from Dr. Jekyll’s Beer Lab. Hazy orange pour. Citrus hops aroma. Flavor is a dry and hoppy with some citrus notes.
3.8Pours a yellow/orange in color, with a mostly diminishing off white head and excellent lacing. The aroma is hops, pine, citrus and some malt underlying. The taste is bitter, creamy very good.
