4.0 Bottle@sonora; pours back with creamy lifght brown head. Chocolate, coffee, cacao, toffee, dark fruit esters. Full-medium ody, velvetly smooth texture.
4.0 Smells of chocolate and roasted coffee. Lingering tan foam. Dark beer but slight bit of redness touches through against a light. Velvety carbonation. Nice oiliness on the finish, pretty thick beer. Dark roasted coffee taste to start. I would expect a strong bitterness to follow but surprisingly it doesn't. Other notes of dark chocolate, smoked wood, mocha, slight leather, and oak. I'm usually not the one for overly roasty or woody beers but this one is decadent. Definitely gets better as it warms up. Good coffee beer.
4.2 Monday, February 05, 2018 6:18 PM Bottle 22 ounce poured to wine glass, with meal Sight: black color, small foam head Smell: Aroma of toasted grains, malt Taste: very good taste, even with high alcohol Fell:Creamy mouth feel, not to carbonated Overall: Very good beer
3.4 On draught at Old Chicago, June 14th, 2015. Pours black, small off white head of foam, good lacing for as strong as this is. Smells of coffee, duh, roasted malt, dark chocolate, loads of bitterness. Same for the taste, would make a good breakfast beer if I had bottles of it. Medium to medium high carbonation, good mouthfeel.
3.2 22 bomber to tulip. Pours black, khaki head. Aroma of coffee bean, chocolate, toffee. Taste of same with vanilla, cola and acidic bite. Off taste from back end. Could be the booze, but is rather off putting. Might be an old bottle.
4.1 Had this at their tasting room. I love the taste of coffee, so was pleasantly surprised by the taste of this, as I don't always love capp stouts
4.2 Lagunitas has done a very nice job with this stout. Such a wonderful cappuccino aroma and flavor as the name would imply. Nice and warming but no detectable alcohol taste. Great Beer!!!
2.9 At 9.1% alcohol it's a bit too strong for my taste. Pours a dark thick black with little foamy head
3.7 Bomber thanks to hauxe. Pours almost black with a tan head. Aroma of dark malts and espresso. Taste is espresso, dark malts, alcohol, but primarily coffee. Finish is roasty, bitter and boozy. Good but not great.
3.6 Aroma: chocolatey with a little coffee; Appearance: pitch black with creamy tan head that lingers; Taste: follows nose with more booziness; good; Palate: heavy body with long, boozy finish; Overall: would like more dimension but still enjoyable. Would drink if available but probably not get again.
3.9 Dark brown color with tan head. Aroma has sweetened milk coffee with some dark chocolate on top. Taste follows with the sweet coffee at first but gets more bitter and roasty towards the finish lingering with coffee flavor on the aftertaste. Medium to full bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Overall it’s a really nice coffee stout with balanced flavors.
3.7 Well, we finally made it. Beer rating # 69. It is gonna be 351 more ratings till we get to another funny number so let’s bask in it for a moment . . . OK, on with the review. Here we have another contentious stout rating for I enjoy them but my better half winces and calls them "garbage water" unless the chocolate notes are strong and pure. This beer does not have strong choco notes. It is very much a coffee stout (per the name obv). It has a nice malty smell and dark velvety pour (edit: and also smells like a raccoon died in a dumpster). It has a nice coffee taste and lingers with a long finish (edit: that will not go away unless you chug your hot cocoa). It isn’t as good as the "High West-ified" varietal I tried from Lagunitas a few weeks ago, but this is still good (edit: 696969696969696969696969696969). I like it at least. Review by me, edits by my booboo.
3.5 Tap at J’s Lagunitas event. Pours a pitch black with a finger of beige foam. Chocolate forward nose with some light malt and coffee notes. Booze hidden well. Good coffee notes on the palate/finish. Solid.
3.9 Draft at the Casual Pint. 9%. Pour was black, thin tan head. Aroma of coffee, cappuccino, roasted malts. Taste was moderate bitter, cappuccino, thin roasted coffee, slight bitter finish.
1.9 Smells like a rusty coffee can. Tastes like some day old maxwell house out of that can.
3.8 65cl bottle @ William K, kurvi. 8,9% version. Poured near black with a thin brown head. Aroma has strong coffee, roasted malt, licorice, spicy notes. Lots of coffee here, builds up nicely with some licorice, mild ashy notes, roasted malt, dark chocolate. Long finish. Nice, but expected better body though.
3.6 Bottle. Jet black in colour with moderate carbonation. Aromas are of coffee, stewed fruit, and a bit of vanilla. Flavors are of mild drip coffee, pale malt, caramel, and a bit of chocolate. Elements of ashy coffee grounds show up on the finish, along with some mild herbal bitterness. Solid, but not terribly intense.
4.2 Black color. Beautiful, beige head. Aroma of roasted malt , moderate coffee notes and some chocolate. Strong coffee bitterness in taste with chocolate on background. Medium body, easy to drink. Very well balanced.
3.3 Espresso and roasted malt aromas, dark fruit/chocolate too. Taste is espresso, bitter roasted malt, and dark chocolate. After it has warmed, a fudgey dark chocolate and plum flavor becomes codominate with the espresso.
4.0 I have had many coffee stouts over the last two years since I have gotten into craft. There are variations left and right. The Cappuccino Stout is a nice spin on the style by being a high gravity brew with a bit of the milk stout DNA appearant. The nose is lent more toward coffee and cinnamon while the taste is a melody of chocolate, espresso and a cinnamon kick. It looks great in the glass with a massive 3 finger head. A rich dark brown appearance.
3.9 The pour is dark black, with just a bit of dark tan foam. You can smell the coffee, but its not overpowering. The initial taste is rich stout with notes of roasted hops and coffee while chocolate and roasted hazelnut comes thru as it sits on the tongue. The finish is slightly bitter with coffee lingering. Good stuff though.
3.7 Day-Old coffee and coffee bitterness mingling with some some low hoppiness ... maybe a little alcohol. Taste is similar with caramel and significant roasted nuts ... finish is a cup of espresso with a touch of sweetness. Very smooth mouthfeel ... it is big, not a chore to finish, but you still need to stick around and appreciate it.
3.8 My 1000 th rating. Pours a dark brown/black with a thick head and great retention. Aromas coffee, brownie, cocoa, slight smoky wood. Flavors medium coffee, light wood, medium cocoa, slight brownie. Medium sweetness medium bitter finish. This is not to complex but decent. Have had way better coffee stouts and most are better with age.
3.8 Coffee and roasted barley aroma. A bit if a char character. Pretty sweet, but the bitterness means it’s not cloying. Has a decent bitterness. Body is also thinner than expected, but not thin at all. Tasty big, roasty, and a little sweet.
3.9 (Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout) Bottle 650 ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 9.2% Black coloured body, one full finger of thick, beige head, creamy, with very good retention. Aroma has sweet coffee, chocolate, mocca, light plums. Nice taste, more cold coffee now, sweet in general, with chocolate, mocca, plums, light caramel, fudge, some roasted malts on the finish, dates here and there, hints of alcohol. Medium body with good carbonation. Nothing mind-blowing but a very good one.
4.1 Visual: Pours jet black without a significant head, ringed nano-micro ringed retention, steady micro streams accompanied by sporadic scatted bubbles. Nose: roasted nutty sweet coffee, liquid barley malt in the background. (lvl-6)-pungency Attack: super THICK, creamy-smooth/almost NO2 Mid-palate: roasted coffee, (lvl-6-sweetness) -> roasted barley malt, light burnt bitter chocolate, soy sauce, alcohol tang, vanilla Finish: deep roasted coffee exhale w/ lingering bittersweet roasted malt. Summary: This one kept me sipping and sipping... and sipping. Wonderfully smooth and approachable thick-creamy mouthfeel with a very agreeable integrated roasted coffee & barley deep body. Balanced, rich, delicious. It could use a touch of milkiness, but otherwise excellent.
3.3 Large American bottle. Brown. Pours black with a medium tan foam head subsiding average slow. Scent is light malt and medium light Porter yeast. Taste is medium dense Porter with maybe hops and little else. Finish is dry and a little earthy and even a little capsaicin. Good.
3.9 Opaque, covering lace. Very full body, silky texture, flavorful, big, rich extra hot and well balanced mouthfeel, long aftertaste. Bitter but well supported by mild background malt sweetness and balanced by crisp acidity. Strong but simple dark roast coffee flavor, malty, alcohol, raisins, tar, coke, finishing on a pomegranate syrup note. Delicious and satisfying.
3.8 On tap. Poured a dark brown color with a creamy head and good lacing. Aroma of fresh coffee, bit of dark fruit and roasted malt. Taste of coffee, coffee, bit of dark fruit and chocolate in the background. Nice bitterness and a dry finish. Full body, smooth with a nice coffee feel and well balanced. Enjoyable beer.
3.6 Brown colour with small head on top. Aroma has coffee beans, caramel malts, raisin too and of course roasted malts. Taste has lots of coffee, maybe that milk based cappuccino, roasted malts. Coffee stout, nothing special. Almost full body and medium carbonation.
