3.9 This IPA was golden yellow with a tenacious sticky head webbing the glass. Taste is bitter, slight citrus, lots of IBU’s or at least it seems super bitter. Pretty good on the second bottle. I liked this better than Maximus and you can’t beat the price ($3.49). Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 09-05-2007 15:30:47
3.6 Bomber bottle. Pours golden amber with decent head. Nicely floral hop aroma, decent hop ale body, nice finish. Solid brew.
3.9 Bomber, so excited I finally get to try this before it disappears entirely! Pours clear and golden, with a medium sized white head. Good lasting lacing. Aroma has a fruity, floral tint, with grapefruit and lemon zest notable. Flaor holds a firm lemony sway, with pale and crystal malt. Nice hoppy accents without much sweetness, which is a change for sweet ASA-specialist Lagunitas. Finish is dry, with citrus flavors and a clean bitterness. This is quite nice, actually, sort of like a toned-down Hop Stoopid. It stays light throughout, masking alcohol as well as minimizing distracting sweetness. Hops are in focus, and made easily quaffable.
3.3 2008 Bottle - Pours cloudy orange with a small off white head...aroma is a bit dusty, caramel malt and slight hop florals...not great, expecting the worst...flavour is incredibly light, hops have faded greatly, but it’s still got a nice pitchy bitterness...the malt, coincidently, too is fainter than earlier, which was interesting in itself given the void created by the lack of hops...just great fresh, and just kinda blah now...my fault...
4.3 Orange gold brew with a huge off white fluffy crown, endless large bubbs floating up and the dirtiest glass that I’ve seen in a while. The aroma is awesome as it is very fruity: lechee, tangerines, grapefruit. Lots of bready malt, a hint of caramel? as well and there is also a mild pine smell. Seems thick too. The flavour here is great - nothing over the top...no insane hop-hammer. I’ve found that the flavour does not veer from the aroma much. The pine from the hops is more prevalent thought as is the caramel, but it’s still mild. Medium bodied. Smooth mouthfeel and nice carbonation. A bit thick but that seems perfect with this beer. Medium strength bitterness for west coast stuff. Pine and pepper lingering finish. 4.3? Probally too high but I think this is exactly the beer I was in the mood for...plus, since it was Lagunitas, I did not expect this quality. Hands down the best Lagunitas beer I’ve ever had.
3.6 "Now this was a bad pour I poured the entire 650ml bottle into schooner and it has four inches of beer and ten inches of foam. As the cap slowly settles out extremely large creators are forming on the top of the crown, the body appears to be cloudy brownish orange I can compare it to the color of peach iced tea. Nice candied grape fruit aroma lots of caramel malts and fuzzy peach chewy candy combine to make this relatively simple but yummy aroma. That’s a wickedly bitter taste the flavour seems mild and held back why? Pine, peach and caramel malt make up most of the taste where’s the rest of it this seems way to simple and mild. Nice mouth feel smooth and refreshing with a slightly sweet bitter after taste. Brew is very drinkable and the high 7.8% alcohol is completely hidden but the taste seems to be lacking however I would have no problem drinking this again. "
3.8 Bomber courtesy of daknole. Pours a pale amber with a loose, frothy, off-white head that diminishes to a thin, creamy cap that laces fairly well. The nose is of fruity/citric hops with a sweet honey-on-toast note in support. Fairly light-bodied for an IPA, it has a a lightly creamy and slick mouthfeel and concludes with a solidly bitter, yet balanced, finish. Sweet, slightly bready pale malt with a solid, yet subtle, "hit" of citric and slightly resinous hops that linger into a pleasant aftertaste. This is one of those "sum is greater than the parts" beers. I would love to have tried it a bit younger, but it was still pretty enjoyable with a bit of age on it. Thanks again Dakine.
4.4 Bottle. Deep orange on the pour with a big head. Grapefruit citrus and piney hops in the nose. Shockingly smooth for an ipa. Finishes slightly bittr with a slight alcohol burn. VERY nice
3.5 22 oz bomber from PHX trip 10/07, so this has a bit of age on it. Wonderful typical IPA aroma with citrus hops and crystal malts. Color is pretty light, slightly hazy for an IPA. Thin head persists despite a gushing bottle when opened. Age has definitely calmed down the hops as this beer is certainly bittered well but lacks the expected hop flavor. Still, it’s a great beer. Alcohol is present though not "hot." A very nice beer as I would expect from Lagunitas.
3.6 High drinkability and cheap. Love lagunitas for that. Citrus flavor. Dry finish.
3.5 A hazy golden ale with a thin lacing white head. A classy c-hops aroma with mandarin pulp^and grapefruit. In mouth, a sweet doughy malt with c-hops, grapefruits, medium bodied. A good IPA. Tasted Nov. 21 2008.
3.7 A- Pours a very clear light orange with 2 fingers of white frothy head, thin lacing sticks to the glass S- Very nice IPA/DIPA dominated by citrus and pine hoppiness that is balanced and not overwhelming, some biscuity/bread malts in the background, underlying pepper tones T- Initial taste sensation is again bitter grapefruit hops that soon give way to smooth sweet bread malts, long aftertaste is bitter and dry with modest alcohol presence M- Medium-bodied, smooth, balanced, thick texture coats the tongue, adequate carbonation D- I would peg this somewhere between an IPA and DIPA in terms of drinkability, definitely not a "hop bomb" (which helps improve continued drinking), but this is a very nice 1.5 IPA which I think is a standout from the always solid Lagunitas scene
3.7 In the bomber bottle. Pours a clear but dark orange gold color with a white head. Flowery hop orange aroma. Nice white lacing. Flavor does not live up to the aroma. Medium palate with a long biter burn to the back of the mouth. Hangs out on the tongue and body slams the finish with all the grapefruit flavors.
3.4 Bottle @ plaid pantry. Pours a great reddish/orange color with hints of oranges grapefruits, and hops. Great IPA. quaff able.
3.7 Bottle. Poured nice and fizzy. Good effervescence. Nice color. Smells and tastes a bit like grapefruit. Would like to be able to find some more...
3.5 Copper color and clear, started with a decent head. Lovely citrusy hoppy smell that arouses and teases the nose. Taste does not disappoint with a pleasant hop bitterness.
3.7 Tropical fruits and citrus hops blend nicely in the nose. Clear golden body is topped by a generous white head that recedes fairly quickly to a lasting cover with very nice lacing. Surprising bitterness joins juice-like tropical/citrus fruitiness. Toasted malts are notable especially in the aftertaste. Medium light body is quite dry with strong effervescence. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle. I’ve had this one for quite a while but neglected to note where I picked it up.
3.7 Sample from January 24, 2009 Beer Club meeting. Pale yellow color, nice head (although it seems to last mere seconds)... bubbly lacing. Hoppy aroma - Cascade hops? Citrus flavor, very fruity and floral, almost perfumy. Hoppy, but definitely different. Kudos to Lagunitas for some different brews! Slick, easy going down... Fun!
3.6 WTF! I could swear I already rated this beer. Bomber. Pours golden orange with white head. Aroma is hops and tropical fruits with some citrus. Flavor is hoppy with tropical fruits and citrus. Malts provide nice balance. Nice IPA but could do without some of the tropical fruit.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a golden body with a white head. Big grapefruit hop character with a big malty backbone, caramel grainy sweet. Peaches and a light alcohol warming.
3.8 This bomber is for sharing and was aged about a year in my cellar. A very hoppy beer, hoppy but balanced aroma, great head with lace. This doubles up to soften the mouthfeel and the hop lead bitterness and mintiness stays on the palate in the finish.
3.6 Super hoppy IPA with absolutely amazing cover art. I love the concept of a new beer for each Zappa album, even if the most recent one sucked.
4.3 Wow, what a beer. 22 oz. Pours light with a nice wet straw aroma. First sip tellls you hops and the finish tells you hops. Not bitter. Refreshiing. A few of these and the ugly radio will make the ugly girls look better! Great beer.
3.7 Rich golden color with a creamy off white head. Bright, fresh grapefruit hop nose. Yep, this is a hoppy IPA. Grapefruit, apricot, candied orange peel, and fresh cut grass. The balance is nice with enough of a malty backbone to support it all, but the mouthfeel is a little thin. The alcohol is noticable in the finish, but not too distracting.
4.1 From bomber what is needed to be said about this one other than HOPS, HOPS, HOPS. A great IPA a great balance of malt and hops the grapefruit flavor with a bit of malt sweetness.
3.4 From bomber. Nice hazy look to it, smells hoppy, tastes nicely fruity and with a nice hop backbone. Very well balanced and hides the alcohol. good stuff.
3.4 Clear golden yellow with a lighter looser white head, thinner, fading fairly fast. Light malt over slightly past prime juicy hops. Guava and papaya with some aspirin. Clear though, no skunk. Creamy to fizzy light but not watery body. Past prime hops are a bit stronger in the flavor. Light malt has some toast. Not a ton of depth. Fruity hops. Toasty astringent finish.
3.3 bomber. orange-ish brown pour with a medium tan head that disappears pretty quick - and a fair bit of lacing. a somewhat muted grassy hop aroma. sweet malt, caramel and tropical fruit taste. really good texture - but leaves me hanging a little with on the finish - probably wanting some more bitter bite. Good, but not great for my tastes.
3.8 An interesting brew. While drinking this, I thought it must be a in imperial IPA. I was a little shocked to see it wasn’t. Anyways, talk about fruity! Wow! It has a unique sweetness that is in a league of its own. Feels great going down and has a great lingering aftertaste. If you’re in the mood for a great sweet IPA with minimum bitterness, go check it out (if you can still find it).
3.1 pours sparkling medium yellow with a large white head. Aroma is lightly malty, heavily hopp of mainly grapefruit. Flavor starts balanced twords sewwt mainly, with grapefruit hop flavor dominating, finishes much the same, very one dimensional. light to med bodied, and watery
