Lagunitas Lucky 13

Mondo Large Red Ale
From the first day of the first mash of the first recipe in the first space to this oasis 13 years on the road; We have worked hard to walk in the footsteps of our hero brewers. The Esteemed brewer of California’s best Pale Ale, the Noble Brewer of the planet’s only legal Steam Beer, and Oregon’s Rebel Brewer from Newport. Thirteen years down the road, we have found our own voice as brewers but our admiration for the Great Ones has not dimmed one bit. If we walked well down the hero’s path ourselves, perhaps we too have been an inspiration for others. Beer is a Bronze Age business and we feel honored to have left our footprints on its path into history, at the same time leaving our flavors on your buds. Thanks for your trust over the years and we hope you enjoy this specially brewed Hi-Gravity Auburn offering. Beer Speaks. People Mumble! O.G. 1.085 76.92 IBU

3.9 From backlog. Bottle from Systembolaget Charlottenberg. Amber with offwhite head. Malts, hops, Citrus, Caramel and pines.
3.9 Pours a clear amber with a white foam head. Aroma is citrus, grapefruit, caramel, toffee, floral, pine, and resin hops. Flavor is floral, pine, and resin hops with sweet caramel notes. This is quite bitter with some carbonation. Very good.
3.9 Reddish beer with orange hues and an off-white head. Aromas of caramel and earth. Tastes of earthy notes, some caramel, pine resin hops, butterscotch, and some woody notes. Bittersweet finish is expertly balanced with bread malts and moderate hops. Delicious, this was a treat.
3.4 Great looking beer.. foamy offwhite head, ruby brown appearance. Smell is a bit too sweet for my tastes... funky malt notes. Taste is very nice... malt and IPA, good balance... aftertaste is a bit underwhelming and flat. Nice, but a bit disappointed.
4.8 This is Excellent! No question about it. The right balance of hops and malt make this one of my favorite beers.
3.9 You can hardly go wrong with a Lagunitas offering. Purchased some time back at the closest craft beer venue, I lift the cap from the 22 oz bottle. Pouring into my New Belgium snifter it arrives a dark brownish red with a vigorous and I say vigorous light beige head. The nose, bread, toffee, maybe a hint of floral. A full drink now, hey, unexpectedly fine. Hops, cereal, sourdough and some nice caramel sweetness. Normally not an red ale fan but this could change my mind.
3.6 Taster at GABS 2018. Pours a pale orange gold with a white head. Aroma: pine, caramel, citrus, mild grapefruit, mild herbal notes. Taste: pine, citrus, caramel, mild grain, mild grapefruit flavours. Well balanced. Moderate carbonation. Mild bitterness with a smooth boozy finish. This was quite nice.
2.6 Bottle. What we have here is a very average beer in every way with a high gravity.
3.6 A reddish copper ale with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with light vinous notes, treacle, resinous and piney hops, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet caramel malt with vinous notes, treacle, light butterscotch, alcohol warmth, very nice. On tap at Chicago brewery.
3.2 5/3: $6 10 ounce draft pour at Lagunitas' Chicago Brewery.Copper red pour, razor thin off-white lacing. Nominal sweet aroma. Dry light taste, thin texture and mouth feel. Overall OK offering.
4.2 Thought this would be something like an Irish Red...or a premium/stonger resemblance of Rogue's Dry-Hopped Red Ale. Appearance is a semi-clear reddish to light brown color. It actually seems more of a cross between that and some of Lagunita's IPAs. Lots of grapefruit, pine, malts (caramel seems like). Taste is bitter and sweet at the same time. I am really liking the balance and this isn't a hop bomb, but still has lots of hoppiness. Glad I got to try this and would definitely buy again. Hope to see it in 6-packs. UPDATED 11/29/09: Yup, this is better than I remembered. Noticing the hops somewhat more this time around. Pretty close to a hop bomb, but the sweet malty flavors are there too. One of my favorite beers!
2.7 Copper color, slightly opaque. Slight alcohol flavor and rich, balanced body,
4.7 From a bottle to a glass. Pours a clear copper color with a big frothy creamy silky head. Aroma is Sweet malts and a slight earthy and sweeter type hop note. Taste follows the aroma with slight hints of red licorice, brown sugar, apricot. and cinnamon candy. Medium to heavy mouthfeel. Very tasty Red Ale! One of my all time favorite Beers!
4.1 Where Purchased: 347ml bottle from the Meijer in Michigan (drive home from Chicago) Consumed: from a pilsner glass. Aroma: Smells malty, sweet, a little hoppy and slight alcohol. Appearance : unfiltered medium red gold with decent head that disappears within the first few sips into excellent lacing. Some suspended yeast. Taste: Very well balanced, but just a tad too much hops. As you get near the bottom there as a more obvious booze. Palate : medium body. Bittersweet aftertaste. Decent carbonation. Overall: Very well balanced. Very similar to a Belgian Double with some hop noted. I was glad to try another quality beer from this brewer, and will buy again. MB. The Beer "Bear"on.
3.3 Good night cap beer. Strong in abv and flavor. Haven’t come across this on tap....bet it would open it up.
3.7 At Ollies. Pours murky brown with a think tan head. Big malty up front with s lingering long hop taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
3.5 Big, spicy, hoppy for a strong ale. Nice mouth feel. Good malt backdrop. Has a slightly peepery note. Overall - an assertive ale .
3.4 Taste: Smoked malts, dark fruits, plums, nutty notes with hops that balance it out. Warming alcohol at end. Same with nose. Reddish copper brown color, semi clear, tan head with sticky lace. Medium body. Remind me of part barley with part imperial red.
4.2 Aroma: caramel, grape, citrus and pine. Taste: sweet malt and caramel; Thick body. Bitter aftertaste with malty bitterness with pleasant notes of grass and pine. Well balanced and warming.
4.6 Smooth, full bodied Imperial IPA. goes down amazingly well for 8.8 abv.
3.5 Clear dark amber pour with large off white head. Aroma of malts, hops, caramel, pine and faint fruits. Taste of roasted malts, caramel, hops, faint fruits and pine needles. Full bodied, medium carbonation, hoppy finish.
3.4 Draught, 8.8% at KØ17. Cardamon and fruit aroma. Clear brown colour. Good creamy off-white head. The flavour has a grassy hoppiness, creamy and sweetish. A bit earthy and dirty but tastes all right. Good warming alcohol in the finish.
3.7 Clear amber pour. Love the hop/malt balance. Sweet caramel and bitter, resinous pine.
4.0 DATE: July 31, 2017... OCCASION: toasting a Will’s last game/watching the Iron Pigs with Jeff/visiting Bob Sunday... GLASSWARE: Maudite snifter... dark brown amber body that builds creamy, bubbly head with arcs of lacing with strings of effervescence... the single-finger head sits staunchly atop... robust pine and caramel malts impugn the taste buds... berry, plum, fruity apple, subtle spiciness akin to rye, and low-key phenol make for a boozy, musty earthiness that is attractively thick nonetheless... sips a creaminess that warms like bourbon and provides a smokiness like scotch... at 8.8% ABV, the body is mellow, medium-bodied, and worth a slow sip... flirts with a barley wine’s profile, without the intense heat, but has enough hops to give the beer strength at the teeth... another quality product from Lagunitas, one that I willingly paid $2.10 for...
3.7 Restrained aroma in an amber pour. Big hop forward balance to start with big sweat malt body to match. Laid back bitter finish leaves one wanting another. One of the best RIPAs I’ve had - and has to be a benchmark of the style.
4.0 This is an old favorite from my old favorite brewery. It pours a reddish hue with a medium head. It has a malty spicy aroma. The flavor is a robust, round hop bitterness with a burnt caramel aftertaste. It is a very solid, early aughts style beer (as in it doesn’t taste like juice) that hides its 8.8ABV well. Good for a Thursday night feast of Popeyes and avoidance of the mysterious rotten trash smell that will now haunt our hallway till the morning.
3.5 Bottle - Pours amber with a smallish head. Bright citrus aroma...not expecting that with bready malt. Good mouthfeel and a lot going on, yet they work well together. Very enjoyable.
3.9 nose is hoppy and sweet, flavor is moderately hoppy with a nice malt balance. a very nice fluffy head that stays for a considerate amount of time. Alchohol is very well hidden like others have said. nice beer here
3.8 Clear , amber color. Nice , off-white head. Malt , caramel and pine in aroma. Sweet, malty taste with flavors of caramel and grapefruits. Strong, hoppy bitterness at the end.
3.7 Superficial festival rating at DØE - Ølfestival København 2017. Amber body with a moderate sized tan head. Aroma is malty with caramel, pine and fruity hops, some grapefruit. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, dry fruit, pine, grapefruit, good bitterness and some alcohol. Fine body and long lasting sweet and bitter aftertaste. Pretty solid stuff.
