Lagunitas Pils

Lagunitas Pils

In The beginning, there were ales. As far as anyone knows, the first beers made were ’top-fermented’, which is longhand for ’Ale’. Sometime long before the 1860’s, beers became popular that were made in Northern Europe with a bottom fermenting yeast strain that liked the colder temperatures. Because they had to spend weeks aging before they tasted their best, they were known as ’Lager’ beer. Lager is the German word for ’storage’. Since they had to sit a while, they took up more time and space and as such were harder and more expensive to make. Where ales are meaty, lagers are sinewy. Where ales are street, lagers are ’haute couture’. Where an ale might hit you over the head and take your wallet, lagers donate to charity and adopt stray cats. While an ale might steal your car or try to date your daughter and keep her out all night for who-knows-what purpose, a well bred lager would offer to clean your house while you’re on vacation and leave fresh scones and coffee for you when you return. Now, don’t get us wrong, ales can be a lot of fun to hang out with when you’re in the right mood, and if you have bail money on you. But what’s wrong with livin’ uptown from time to time, on a nice street, where the doormen all wear those little uniforms, the air smells of flowers, and lagers rule the Earth. Cheers!

3.4 No matter how I try, it is tough to give a quality Pilsner an excellent numeric rating. The flavor just isn't that rich, appearance kind of pale and dull, aroma bland...but the way I judge is a good balance in taste and crisp feel. This has both, so is towards the upper tier on my pilsner scale. There are some better ones that I can think of offhand, but for the price that Lagunitas is getting down to, this is hard to pass on in this hot summer heat.
3.0 Bottle @ Wordenskjolds. Appearance: pours clear straw yellow with ok off-white soapy head and lacing. aroma/taste: barley, bread, light metallic, light butter and floral notes. palette: medium hoppy aroma, average to light sparkling carbonation, medium body, average sweetness, balanced by a medium to notable bitterness, average duration and a watery texture. Overall: nice, hides ABV well

3.0 Bottled, 355ml from Asda in Milton Keynes, Bucks. Gold with white head. This proved to be a really sweet lager beer towards a Pale Ale, not as sharp as you would expect from a Czech type Pilsner. Some lemony type flavours on a lightly roasted barley, cereal body. It's okay.

3.3 Copenhagen 29/12 2018. 35,5 cl bottle from Meny, Østerfælled Torv, Kbh Ø. Usual simple Lagunitas design with the coy tag line "Life is Uncertain, Don't Sip". Pours clear yellow with medium-sized white head. Settles as 0,5 cm thick layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. Clinging to the sides of the glass. Substantial lacing Aroma is fresh and pilsner-like. Lightly of sweet malts, butter, a little caramel, fresh grass. salty notes. Strong carbonation. Thin, watery and lively texture. Flavor is medium sweet followed by a slightly stronger bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish with a bitter undercurrent. Fairly short. Decent pilsener that does what is is supposed to.
3.5 Bottle. It poured a pale gold color with a frothy white head. It has a light clean taste. Very easy drinking.
3.8 Clear orange pour. Aroma.a is sweet citrus. Taste is light bitter orange. Enjoyable.
3.2 Draught at Lagunitas. Golden color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, hops, malts, toast and a bit of grass. Bitter finish with citrus, hops, malts, toast and grass. Good Pilsener.
3.5 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear gold with a tight white head. Good pils scents of malt and hay. Bread and cracker upfront with a clean sour hops finish. Above average carbonation and a crisp lingering finish. Nice example of the style.
3.2 Keg @ Bishops Arms, Hornsgatan. Clear, pale golden. Firm and dense white head, rich lacing all around the glass. Floral and biscuits aroma with some of that typical citrus/herbal hoppy Lagunitas nose. Light and fairly crisp mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Biscuits malty with fruity, grassy and floral hops. Dryish finish with pleasant bitterness. Overall quite low key.
3.6 On tap at Uptown Freehouse. Pours gold. Peach, orange juice, synthetic orange, sweet mango, pineapple, touch of sharpness in the back end. Medium body. Light and refreshing and very tasty.
1.6 "Pils" hey? Knowing that "Pils" backward is SLIP, I slipped away into the loving embrace of Blatz. So when looking for true romance, shack up with Blatz, that little tramp will satisfy your carnal knowledge. This stuff not so much.
4.1 Very enjoyable easy to drink with a good kick for a Pilsner. A nice dry finish
3.3 Bottle at amsterdam billiards, new york. Golden color, white head. Aroma has some malts, hint of butter, somw pils hops. Malty body, pilsner style hops, not so dry but ok.
2.5 19 oz mug on tap at Bier:Thirty. Not sure why I ordered this beer, but I did. Not bad, but not great. I'm not a big fan of pilsners, unless I'm in the Czech Republic.
3.6 Surprised I had not rated this one before, but so it goes. The smell is thin lemon, heavy grass, and sweet buttered corn cob. Appearance is clear yellow piss, holy and true. The taste is watery Lagunitas (they have a house style lets be honest); it is very smooth and chill like a Boz Scaggs record in a fridge. Easy drinking and delightful for any weather, this is a favorite of the middling lager pack. Good for jamming some Joni Mitchell while lamenting how anyone could think Rihanna's hotness is overrated, and lets not even mention the Prince skeptics, unless this review get completely derailed.
3.0 Sampled at a tasting at Total Wine. Not really a style I love but Lagunitas makes some good brews so had to do my due diligence. And it was OK but only OK.
3.7 Ar: Sulfur, chalk, and cracker malt; herbal, lemony, and spicy hops, quite refined. Ap: Yellow gold and clear; medium white head with moderate-low retention, leaving some splotchy foam cover. T: Cracker malt and chalk; bright, clean, and high bitterness up front, lingering throughout; grassy; dough and more hay, with herbal and lemony hop flavor; crackers and grass on the finish. P: Light body and steely; high carbonation; finish is dry. O: Very good pilsner; hops are bright and punchy, with a big noble European quality; malt and water profile are crisp and firm; quaffable and full of flavor.
3.4 From tap at ADT. Pours clear yellow with a finger of foamy white head. Nose is pale malt and fresh cut grass. Flavors add some mild citrus and hops. Moderate carbonation, smooth, medium finish. Nice.
3.0 35cl bottle purchased @ Mondial de la bière Paris. Pils très classique qui manque un peu de la sécheresse caractéristique.
3.5 Don’t expect a German or Czech pils. This brew takes an extra step and uses the pils base adding hops to create an interesting hoppy lager.
3.5 12floz bottle purchased as a single for $1.50, freshness is uncertain, but it goes into my pint glass anyway. Appears a translucent pale yellow with some head. Smells like a haystack and tastes like one that is growing some grass too. Medium in body and moderate in carbonation. It’s good, fairly sessionable, and definitely as close as Lagunitas gets to anything traditional in style.
3.5 Flot gylden farve, dejlig aroma og lidt bitter i smagen. Alt i alt en meget god pilsner.
3.3 Bottle from the Parcelyard, Leicester. Clean, flavoursome Pils, but slightly too sweet for me. Goodbye Champions League - it was a great adventure.
3.9 Aroma: Very lite aroma. No off aromas noted. Appearance: Clear yellow with no cloudiness. Very nice. Taste: Very good pilsner. What I would expect from Lagunitas. Palate: Lite body with lively carbonation at start, maintained through pint. Overall: Very good beer all the way through, and Im not a fan of pilsners.
3.2 Nice amber/gold color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of malt, hops, & some grain; Flavor of slight sweet malt, hops, grain, and some citrus; Finish is slightly bitter; Good pils brew.
3.0 Flaska. Gul med ett generöst vitt skum. Dofter av säd, blomster och gräs. Smakinslag av malt, blomster och säd. En lätt sötma i avslutningen.
3.3 4 oz. pour, on tap at Nutmeg Arden Hills. Consumed on 3-10-17. Clear, pale gold with a small amount of beige head. Nice, floral aroma. Green grape and champagne scents. Pleasant, pungent hops in the smell. Good, refreshing, dry flavor. Wood chips. A bit of cardboard, which isn’t ideal. Dry finish, which I like. Lively and smooth in the palate. Reasonably crisp but not as crisp as it should be. Fizzy. Pretty good pilsner but just a touch off.
3.6 Bottle. Light yellow color, very clear. White head, bubbly. Grassy nose, floral. Bready grain and malt. Malty, bready flavor. Semi-sweet. Grassy hop character. Medium-light body. Fairly smooth finish. Nice flavor, good balance.
