3.6 12 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifter. The beer is a hasy gold with a white head of foam. The aroma has grassy and sweet herbal notes. Some lemon rind notes come through in the taste, and especially in the finish. Overall a bitter beer. Medium body and medium carbonation.
3.4 Bottle from Discount. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a finger of foam that dissipates fairly quickly. Light grassy hops with a touch of citrus but really the yeast carries the nose for the most part. Slightly grainy wheat with a touch of grass on the palate. Dry but a touch of sweetness comes through on the finish. Simple but well-made.
3.6 Bottle sent for review. What I have poured here is a hazy beer, with a note of gold or brass to it, hazy of course, under a rocky head. The glass helps concentrate a nose of easily discernible West Coast hops that are not quite in there for the Wit style, but certainly for the Lagunitas style. The taste rolls in more like a pale ale than anything Belgian style. With most wheat beers, I can claim that the wheat in the malt gives it a note of spiciness, but that is hard to track here just because of the extra hop bill. The beer’s mouthfeel, though, is a little thicker than many summer wheats, and it has a touch of honey, or extra malt, that make this even less of a beer to have in the middle of your weekend outdoor chores. You usually expect a citrusy note just from the yeast in a wit, without having to emphasize it with a lemon slice. But Stoopid Wit has just a touch of citrus, mainly from the hops, but after a few sips, there’s a bitter aftertaste on the tongue that’s more in line with a German noble hop, or the rowdy bitterness of Northern brewers. This bottle does have the traditional yeast dregs at the bottom for further conditioning. As I swirled the last of the bottle into my glass, the beer became cloudier, of course. The taste became a bit brighter, like a German lager, and just a little more savory. At least there’s no "dead yeast" character here, which probably stems from having the beer fresh.
3.2 May need to try again. Light citrus in aroma. Taste was balanced with some citrus bitterness
3.2 Fruity aroma. Lots of citrus, but not bitter. Smooth and light. Lemon and melon with a bit of doughy malt and a bit of hops through the finish that brings some dryness.
4.1 Bottle from 7-11: Appeared a gloomy glowing yellow that was paired with a lot of hazy sediment and a thick patch of foam cap on top. Aroma smells slightly fruity with orange or tangerine peel while delivering a dosage of spicy Belgian like yeast that hints towards coriander, clove, and lemon pepper. Flavor is bold and brings about a wild mix of flavors that consists of coriander, clove, tangerine peel, lavender, bay leaf, thyme, and other spiciness. Well done witbier and drinks like an Imperial witbier coming from the states.
4.0 Stoopid Wit has a thick, mousy, off-white head, a hazy, golden appearance, with lots of roiling, powdery sediment, throughout, and rather heavy lacing left behind, on the glass. The aroma is of sharp spice, very strong, fruity hop oil or resin, and pale malts. Taste is of all that, and the oily, dank hop notes are impressive. Mouthfeel is high medium (nearly heavy), and Stoopid Wit finishes almost dry. RJT
3.7 Hazy deep golden under a thin sticky white head. Grassy herbal bitterness on the nose with a pop of coriander and sunshiney bitterness. Crisp coriander and hoppy grassy wheaty flavor with a dryish finish and bitter citrus on the finish.
3.2 Pours a pale golden color with a medium sized head. The aroma is lightly sweet and hop forward with a. It of Spiciness. The flavor is fairly bitter with some herbal character, hoppy, but not crazy. It’s lightly sweet & a bit spicy.things seem to work well together here
3.7 Bottle from Total Wine & More, St Petersburg. Mid-gold with orange hues, slightly cloudy. A bit of white head and a bit of lacing. Lemon juice, homemade applesauce, grass and ground coriander in the aroma. Sweetness in the initial taste with the chalky spiciness of coriander to the fore. Bitterness appears more in the latter half of the sip with a medium to long finish. Lemongrass in the aftertaste. Pretty impressive and enjoyable recipe.
3.6 12oz bottle pours hazy orange nice white head decent lacing smells of hops and citrus zest., plenty of hop flavor with citrus. refreshing.
2.9 Bottle. Hazy golden body with a frothy white head. Aroma of pine, clove, toasted grain, plastic, bubble gum, light banana. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Wit beer was not meant to be this bitter — the taste of bitter spice and bitter wheat. Not a drain pour, just odd flavors.
3.5 12 ounce bottle from Woodman’s Menominee Falls, 9/3/16. Hazy orange, large foamy white head, good retention. Aroma of lemon, lime and wheat. The taste is lime, wheat, a bit of pine and spice. Thin-medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness.
3.5 From a bottle into a pint glass, Cloudy light yellow with large white head. Citrus hop nose, floral notes. Light body medium carbonation, medium sweetness, very high bitterness for a wit. Long finish with banana, stone fruit. Love the reinterpretation of styles but not sure this fully hits the mark.
3.8 Bottle on 12/8. Been saving it for awhile. Pours a cloudy orange yellow, lightly opaque with some bubbles, light white head. Aroma is banana and yeasty. Light medium bitterness, lightly yeasty wheat taste. Body is nearly medium, kind of slick. Long lingering aftertaste. This isn’t a "sexy" beer style these days, but this beer is pretty good and that is all that matters.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a hazy golden pale orange color with a small white head. Has a fruity wheat malty tropical fruit hoppy aroma. Fruity wheat malty spicy tropical fruit hoppy flavor with weak bretty hints. Has a fruity wheat malty spicy tropical fruit hoppy finish.
3.2 Totally fine beer with all the quality control that Lagunitas brings to it. There’s balance and complexity, but it remains a Lagunitas beer, so the hop levels strike me as too much for what I expect and want from a wit. Bright, colorful, enjoyable for many drinkers, no doubt. Bottle.
3.6 12 ounce bottle A decent summer release demonstrates Lagunitas prowess with hop driven styles. Better examples might exist. However for a widely available alternative to Blue Moon it succeeds. Aroma / Appearance - A rose gold body glimmers under a starchy white head. Lemon custard, mandarin oranges, and sweet brightness tickle the air. Vibrant and fresh it sends a sharp message. Flavor / Palate - Crisp lemons, vanilla custard, and a polished bitterness combine into a smooth experience. There isn’t too much depth after that. Instead it transforms into an oaky yeast that refreshes as it lingers in the throat. If you are just getting into the style this West Coast wit isn’t a terrible benchmark.
3.5 Bottle hazy light golden. Full lasting bright white head and lacing. Some Belgian yeast notes and light wheaty malt flavors. Fairly well hopped and agressive sharpness. Zesty and tasty
3.4 Incomplete tasting notes: Lightly hoppy, with a lemony-citrus taste. Seems like a good summertime beer. Felt crisp but the last few drinks had a soapy mouthfeel
3.9 Nice dry hoppy ale with Belgian notes but not overpowering. I'm not a fan of Belgian so I was surprised to like this one so much.
3.8 [Bottle (12oz)] Pours a slightly hazy gold with a large long-lasting frothy white head. Aroma: Wow, that?s really nice. Citrusy and fruity first followed by some hops, wheat and herbs. Pleasant hoppy Wit flavour with an average bitter finish. Medium bodied. Nice hoppy Wit, I quite enjoyed it.
3.0 pours a slightly hazy golden orange color with a two finger white head that left some good lacing around the glass. The aroma was lemon, spices, and bubble gum. The flavor was more of the same. The abv was not very noticeable in the mouth.
3.7 Golden orange in color... Aroma of tropical fruits, citrus, mango... Flavor is fruity, tropical notes, light, crisp and wheaty... Solid
3.7 A steady pour produces a one-finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a nice gold color that shows a clear, yellow golden hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of earthy lemon zest, lots of spicy / herbal / weed like notes; it is interesting the citrus is nice and bright, but everything else adds a dirty base note to the aroma. If you really dig around a note of bubblegum and Juicy-fruit gum jumps out. Nicely bitter from beginning to end, the beer is also pretty dry, with a body that has a touch of viscosity, but remains light and quaffable. Lingering flavors of lemon zest, a woody / peppery herbal flavor, some rounded / earthy coriander like flavors (from the hop character perhaps), and fermentation character that comes out in the finish with hints of bubblegum and clove. Much nicer than I was expecting; who knew, hopping the crap out of a Wit as the base beer actually works. It helps that the Wit yeast is not overly phenolic as that can clash with the hop character, but there is just enough so that the Belgian yeast character does contribute.
3.5 Draught. Pours a hazy to clear golden orange with a mostly lasting sudsy off white head. Aroma is of citrus, grassy, caramel, coriander, pepper, orange. Taste is of coriander, lime, bread, biscuit, orange, pepper. Light oily mouthfeel, medium carbonation.
3.0 12oz bottle. Certainly more in line with a White IPA than a traditional Wit. Dry and bitter, no yeasty vanilla tones. Undesirable earthy spice tone. Depthless hop extractt tones. dry and bitter, just neutered and bland too. I really wouldn’t want a sixpack of this.
3.7 Bottle on the back porch. Slightly hazy golden with a resilient off-white head. Aroma of citrus, bubblegum and coriander. Tastes yeasty, lightly bitter, and wheaty. Dry and medium bodied. Very solid wit.
3.2 golden color with a thin white head. Aroma is grapefruit and spice. Flavor is Pine, bread, and spice.
3.4 Bottle into pint glass, clear golden color with white head. Aroma notes of citrus/pine hops, floral and bready. Taste adds citrus rind, grapefruit, light coriander and faint spice. Light body, moderate carbonation, crisp, tad dry with sweet fruity bitter finish. Solid hop fruity witbier.
