Lagunitas The Hairy Eyeball Ale

Lagunitas The Hairy Eyeball Ale

"Here’s Lookin’ Atcha’!"

Laying there, staring up at the ceiling, head pounding, last night was a dim recollection. How did he get home? Was he alone? Looking to the left and right, the answer was yes, maybe. His head was full of ’rag water, bitters, and the blue ruin’.His teeth felt like he’d been chewing aluminum and his breath smelled like a burning tractor tire. There was a wrenching knot somewhere between his liver and East St. Louis and he couldn’t be sure whether or not he’d wet himself. A yellow sine wave rang in his ears so loud nit made his teeth itch and he was sure that if he touched his skin anywhere it would induce a rhythmic retching jag. Even in the face of all that, he found himself smiling at the realization that today represented the fresh breast of a new year- an undiscovered country- and also there was still one warm, half-full, flat redolent Hairy Eyeball on the nightstand. Yes-there is a God.

3.0 Beer tasting @ Jorn69 15/4-16. Bottle from Systembolaget. Malty and caramely, also very sweet with notes of dried fruits. Body is full, the finish is sweet and malty.
3.0 @ Havregatan 20160415. Bottle (650 ml) from Systembolaget. Malty and caramely, dried fruits, really sweet, medium body with an oily texture. The finish is dry and malty.
2.8 Bottle from Systembolaget. Beer tasting @ jörns place. Pour Brown colour beer with a small head. Malty, caramel and sweet with notes of dried fruit. Dry finish
3.7 22 oz bottle from Greene’s in Columbia,SC. The ale poured a deep Amber color with a frothy beige head which slowly dissipated. Modest lacing. The rich malty aroma greets you. The taste is more complex with plum and roasted caramel malts. There is only mild hopiness. The ale has a medium body with average carbonation. There is nice warming from the alcohol by the time you get halfway through the bottle. The finish is dry with dried fruits and toffee on the tongue.
4.0 Typical Lagunitas slightly different than anything else, with a nice caramel flavor and good malt, not too much hops. Enjoy!
3.3 650ml bottle, 2016 vintage. Clear redish brown with small light brown head. Aroma of dried fruits, apricot, mango, caramel, cookies, slight nuttiness, light coffee and faint alcohol. Taste is grapefruit, caramel, pine resin, slightly burnt cookies and alcohol. Surprisingly thick oily mouthfeel, low carbonation and faintly bitter and somewhat burnt aftertaste. Sadly too much noticeable high alcohol in relation to other taste for my liking.
Stor sötma, fruktig, dock lite ojämn i smakerna, fin beska. Hade tjänat på att lagras några år.
3.5 650 ml bottle from Systembolaget. Cooper coloured beer with off white head. Fruity, malty with caramel, fruit, dried fruit and some warming alcohol. Semi dry with medium bitterness and medium carbonation.
4.0 Pours mahogany. Foamy head dissipates quickly. Pleasant woody aroma. Smooth, easy drinking. Well balanced caramel flavor, mild sweetness. Like it!
3.9 Pours clear amber with a large foamy off white head. Aromas of raisins, caramel, toffee, figs, rye bread. Taste is malty with fruit jam notes and malty roastiness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation and slightly oily. Some alcohol burn but nicely integrated.
3.2 Appearance: clear Ruby colour. Aroma: sweet, caramel, wine, cherry. Taste: Sweet, toffee, earthy hops, booze. Palate: good carbonation, medium body. Overall: nice beer, nothing amazing, but easily drinkable at 9%
3.3 Aroma is malty and dark caramelly with darker fruits. Taste is dried sweet dark fruits, slight pine and light lemon notes. Kinda tame overall, was expectiong a little more kick in it.
4.0 Flaska från SB. Provning med ölsällskapet. Mörkorange, lätt rubinröd vätska med krämigt beiget skum. Söt doft av kanderat äpple, kola, knäck, konjak, ekfat, inlagda körsbär, bourbon och kandisocker. Tung, oljig kropp. Ekfatssträv, men ändå len. Nötig lönnsirap i smaken. Perfekt dessertöl i barley wine-stuk. Mm, gott!
3.4 From 22oz bottle to snifter. Pour is a brown color, thick tan head. Nose is malty, light hop, boozy. Taste is medium bodied, bitter. Strong finish. Good ale
3.8 Pours almost black with thick, sticky head, loads of clingy lacing. Aroma is toffee and caramel, slightly boozy, woody notes and hints of raisin. Taste is similar, pretty sweet from the toffee/caramel and a warming alcohol presence; chewy with a resiny mouthfeel. It’s very good.
3.6 Pours deep red with a white head. Aroma is caramel, toffee a dark fruits. Taste follows nose
3.6 Shared bottle. Clear, deep mahogany pour, medium white head. Toffee aroma, some booziness, vanilla, fairly sweet overall. Taste came up much more bitter than expected. Full, slightly syrupy body.
3.7 Clear, dark mahogny colored beer with a three finger high, creamy and fluffy head that leaves a lot of lacing. Nose: Dried fruit, pear, sweet caramel malt, pine, brown sugar and honey. Taste: A lot of malt! Chewy, pine, oak, caramel, grass and some grapefruit. Mouthfeel: Full body. Very sweet and thick body. I think this will grow better with aging in my beercellar. A little bit to sweet right now! Medium carbonation. Bittersweet ending.
3.9 DATE TASTED: March 4, 2016... GLASSWARE: Duvel tulip... OCCASION: the first day of baseball practice--and for the first time in seven years, I am not there! To Bob, Butch, Kyle, Adam and Rob--this one’s for you... APPEARANCE: dark ruby body that lets in little light but supports a thick, creamy off-white head that craters slightly and resembles a nitro stout...lacing is significantly hazing... AROMA: strong malts are front and center, with fresh dough, caramel and spices like soft pepper, raisin, and chocolate--not as dynamic as other Lagunitas offerings... PALATE: warm, thick and significant in its trip across the tongue; dry at the finish... TASTE: raisin, dough and prune make for a sweet, barley-forward experience akin to a barleywine... OVERALL:another BIG beer from Lagunitas that lacks the diverse profile of other Lagunitas offerings, but still brings high alcohol and powerful mouthfeel.... this could just as easily create a hangover as cure one... tough to find the hops here, but this is a beer to say goodbye to winter with...
3.2 Fruity, jammy, earthy hops, alcohol, Ruby colour, small beige head, lacing. Noticable bite, heavy sweetness, lightly salty, boozy. Fullbodied, average carbonation, bitter finish.
3.7 22 oz. bottle. Pours a deep ruby red color with an off-white head that settles away fairly quickly. Aroma is mostly thick sweet malt. Medium-full body, taste repeats the aroma - sweet. Thick mouthfeel. Warming alcohol after the swallow. Pretty good!
4.1 On draught into a snifter. Pours a mahogany brown, with a small tan head. Nose is caramel and toffee, and the taste follows. Creamy mouth feel with a long, smooth finish. Nice.
3.4 Bottled: Clear, deep amber. Mid-sized creamy head. Aroma is toffee, onions and alcohol. Rich and oily mouth feel. Sweet flavour with notes of toffee, pine, resin and alcohol. Tastes almost lika a Doppelbock.
3.8 WOW, love this. But not in a way I’d drink er any time soon. Leaves a great slime like should be around a hairy eyeball. Strangely just tasted a little mint. Not any particular smell except wet? Maybe my nose just plugged. Tastes kinda like a malty gruel.
3.9 Bomber from Bradleys. Deep, rusty ruby with little head. Sweet toffee with roasty malts and dark fruits. Sweet malty flavour with a ton of booze. Better as it warmed.
3.5 Keg at the brewery tap room, Petaluma, 03/02/16. Rich amber brown with a well appointed beige covering. Nose is sweet malt, dark fruits, toasted grain, toffee. Taste comprises rich toffee, fruit cake, dates, booze tunes, rich malt. Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the close. Decent enough strong.
