3.2 Cloudy yellow with off- white head that left decent lacing. Musty malty nose, hint of sourness which is not too unplesant for me but seems out of style for sure. Malty and full palate. Interesting and the sourness throws me when this is classed as a pale ale.
3.2 Bottle. Nose is hoppy, lightly sweet but mostly dominated by a woodsy, pine-soaked English hop/Fuggle blast. Thick, fat malt. Pretty copper pour with a rocky beige head. Surprisingly strong bitterness right off the bat but a thin body and a little too much angular sharpness that I associate with a Crystal binge. Big hop and malts, with some modicum of balance, but this one’s an Ice Queen, cold and indifferent to the wills of its consumers.
3.1 Cloudy cider color with 1 finger foamy white head. Smell is caramel malt and spice. Malt carries over the hops in the taste. Sticky mouthfeel.
3.4 Hoppy, earthy aroma with a certain hint of spice. Amber to copper with a white head. Bitter and spicy with a sweeter taste in the background. Crisp finish.
3.4 From a bottle poured an amber color with a good amount of head. Nice hoppy flavor with a quick finish.
3.1 Deep coppery orange color. A bit of hops in the aroma. Crisp flavor of hops, fruit (orange peel as well). Definitely not an IPA. A balanced taste.
3.1 12oz. Bottle: Aroma of vegetables, malt, hops, hamster cage, and tangerine. Poured orange/amber in color with a large, foamy, rocky, off-white head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Some tiny particles throughout. Excellent lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of malt, hops, vegetables, grains, and a hint of nuts. Medium body. Slick texture. Average carbonation. Medium sweet, lightly bitter, malt, hop, and tangerine finish.
2.1 12oz - Orange liquid, off white head of good size. Alcohol and older malt on nose. Light malt on front, honey on back, not much there. Get the Frostbite instead.
2.9 Brown bottle, 12 ounces, savoured on February 17 2010; eye: amber, clear, no effervescence, tiny ring of beige head, no lacing; nose: malt, caramel, “tired”, hops, spices; mouth: malt, caramel, “tired”, water, light hops, spices, finale in malt-caramel with hint of hops, medium body, not much carbonation, lightly sweet, slightly bitter and astringent, slick texture; overall: so?
3.3 12 oz. bottle via trade with j12601 - Pours a hazy amber color with a 3/4 finger thick off white head. Light lacing. Aroma is light toasted malt and esters. Flavor is esters and light malt and spicy hops. Medium body. Not too shabby. Thanks Jay.
2.8 12 oz bottle from Jersey City Buy-Rite. Pours a hazy orange/amber with an average sized foamy off white head. Aroma has some tangerine citrus notes blended in with caramel and toffee malts and some dusty grains. Body is overcarbonated and a little to dry which makes the carbonation seem even more harsh. The flavor sadly isn’t as strong as the aroma and that isn’t saying much. What is there is lots of dusty old bread, bad citrus a touch of butter and some spicey rye and pepper notes in the end. All in all this isn’t to good and I’m having a hard time finishing just 12oz.
2.7 Draught- at the micro brewery. Pours cloudy - a copper color. Hoppy, with a slight bitterness. Has a nice aroma. No aftertaste.
3.6 From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with no lot code or expiration date. The pour is a cloudy amber with a thin to moderate, but short-lived, head. The aroma is made up of sweeter malts and floral hops. The taste is bitter with a good hoppy background. It has many of the elements of a decent English Pale. A fairly nice brew.
2.9 Light orange, but immensely cloudy. Specks sit unmoved as if encased. No head but some lace. Really murky. Aroma is weak. Not a lot going on, hard to detect. Mild ale aroma with some light pale malt. More roasted in the malt than hoppy. Almost no hop presence. Malt is pale but also has a toasted bitter quality. Kind of non-descript, though pleasant. Feels bubbly and a bit prickly. Not smooth. Adds a little punch, but makes it more of a choker. Not overly impressive, but decent enough.
2.6 12 OZ BOTTLE VIA mYS sWAP 4 (THANKS j12601!) Pours a semi clear copper with a large beige head. Nose is caramel and floral hops. Taste is a balanced bitterweet mixture if caramel, tea, orange, soap and some spiciness..almost gingerish. Body is light, carbonation is average. An ok beer.
3.1 355 ml bottle. Hazy golden color with white head. Has floral hoppy aroma, some sweet caramel also. Nice balanced bitterness with strange aftertaste. Flavour has lot of bisquits.
3.5 355 ml bottle. From the US (H). Hazy amber colour with small off-white head. Hoppy fruity and floral aroma. Sweet, surprisingly mild hoppy flavour with almost no aftertaste. Very good English Pale Ale.
2.7 Bottle. Some sweet citrus notes for a pale ale. Nice bitterness. Ok beer overall.
3.2 Pours a cloudy orange copper color with a thick white head. Aroma of hops and a bit of citrus. Decent bitter flavor with some malt and citrus undertones.
3.2 Bottle. Milky, orange tinged body, OK head. Decent malt backbone underneath zesty hops. these aren’t citrus/pin US hops, but the English sort: floral, earthy and all that. Nice enough ale.
2.3 Bottle from the rip and run. A muddled hazy orange with uneven tone. Either my sixe was a bit old, (a new selection at the rip and run) or this just is sub par in the bottle. A watery body that lacks structure. (wow....do I sound snobby). Hops are all over the place...bitter then weak and then a return.. Body is ephemeral and ends abruptly. Blah.
2.9 Pours a darker copper with a large off-white head, good fruity smell, taste is also a little fruity with some small bitterness. Nice and smooth with some carbonation, not a bad beer. Thanks for the trade JB.
3.5 Had this one on draught at the brewpub in Lake Placid, New York. Hazy light brown pour with a nice sweet malty nose, cherry and almond, baked bread and lime rind, nice balanced finish, very good!
3.0 Earthy, musty and malty aroma. Dark yellow/light orange color, poured thick. Malty palate with a bit of zip to it from the small bubbles and the hops edge. Not bad.
3.1 Tap @ Colter Bay. Pours a deeper amber color. Malty nose with minor hop presence. Taste while nicely balanced is not hoppy enough. Decent mouthfeel & very drinkable
2.4 An unimpressive ale from a great brewery. Not a strong taste, but goes down very easily. Pours a nice amberish color with some white head. A bit sweeter than I expect my pale ales.
3.3 (bottle - 12 oz) Slightly cloudy amber color with a thin off-white head. Aroma is light caramel with some very light hints of citrus and floral hops. Flavor begins with a caramel malt note mixing with some smooth and lightly bitter hops. Finishes dry and lightly sweet. Really refreshing and a decent session beer.
2.3 Bottle. Pours a hazy amber body with an off white head. Sweet with hint of citrus and floral hoppiness. oxidation and paper notes moth balls and loads of soap. So bad.
3.1 Bottle. Pours orange with an off white head. Sweet caramel malt aroma with some hops. The flavor is toasty and sweet with herbal and floral hops. Decent.
3.0 Like so many American pale’s, this one is heavy on the sweet side and it just doesn’t blend well with the healthy helping of hops. I don’t mind sweet beers, as long as they can balance well and not be overpowering. Some intereting marzipan in here somewhere as well.
