Taste - nice roast caramel malt, carmalized sugars, chocolate, and alcohol
Palate - medium body, sticky texture, average carbonation, long sem-bitter finish.
2.8Bottled@SBWF2015. Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is fruity, floral, wooden and some sweet maltiness. Flavour is spices, some alcohol, mild fruity and ripe fruity notes as well as some plum.
3.0Bottle at SBWF2015. Amber color, small off-white head. Caramel, perfumic hops in the nose. Medium-bodied. Clean, simple mouthfeel. Malts, light piney bitterness. Easy.
3.0Bottle @sbwf15. Dark brown colored beer with a thin off white head. Raisins, plums, bread, malt. Quite sweet. Flavor has chocolate notes, plums, sweetness, molasses.
3.7This was poured into a nonic pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking hazy brown color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light messy lacing sticking to the glass.
The smell started off with rich sweet milk chocolate and a lingering bitter dark chocolate to balance. Light dark fruits mesh in and around the chocolate flavors.
The taste was moderately sweet combining the chocolate with the dark fruits nicely. A light lingering sweet fruity to chocolate aftertaste leads into a sticky sweet finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation seemed pretty subdued yet still good and lead to a semi-smooth almost creamy feel.
Overall, tastes and smells great on a cool Summer’s evening, not a crushable beer but looking at it for what it is and wants to be it works. I’d have again.
3.7Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Has a fruity aroma with roasted malts. It has a creamy texture. Roasted malts and fruit flavors.
3.2Draught @ The Pony Bar - Hell’s Kitchen, New York, NY
Pours hazy brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, yeast, fruits and alcohol. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long warm, caramel, yeasty and fruity finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
3.5A great blend of flavors. I would drink this with my dinner before a night out with the boys.
3.3bottle. Poured clear dark reddish-brown with a creamy beige head. Malt aroma, dark fruit and cherries. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel that ends moderately bitter. Roasted malt flavour, woody, nutty, a touch sour with herbal hops.
4.0Bottle. Pours a clear amber with small frothy off white head. The aroma is caramel malt and dark fruits . Thin mouth with sweet malt, dark chocolate, roast, very good.
4.1I’m not a huge English Strong Ale guy, but this beer is fantastic. Smells amazing, looks amazing, and the taste is even better.
3.6Bottle. Aroma is currant, malts and raisan. Taste is currant, malts, vanilla and dark fruits. Smooth nice mouth feel to it. Good start to finish.
4.0Pours a very dark brown with a tan head. Nose of dark ripe fruit. Full body. Flavor of roasted malts and fruit. Some chocolate. Bitter finish. Good.
3.2Pours a near black ruby red with a foamy head. Aroma of plum cherries and alcohol. Taste is dark and malty up front with a smokey bitterness in the finish notes of dark fruit come through. The mouthfeel reveals alcohol and a higher level of carbonation.
3.7Draft at the brewpub. Dark reddish black color. First description: Wow. Full of licorice and brown sugar, with an almost corn syrupy backdrop. But it’s thick like oil almost and definitely strong. (#5821, 10/10/2014)
2.9Bottle. Pours a dark brown with red highlights and thin beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, burnt nuts, burnt chocolate, and dark fruits. Has a bit of a metallic taste. Dark fruits and burnt everything. A touch of bitterness. Basement musk. Too light bodied for a strong ale. Was hoping for more everything and less burnt everything.
3.512 fl. oz. bottle. Pours a deep brown colour with medium beige head. Aroma is sweet malts, caramel, wheat. Taste is caramel, malts.
4.2Its body has a dark brown color with deep crimson highlights. The head on top was about one and half fingers thick, light tan in color and made very nice lacing on the glass. Sweet caramel and brown sugary notes pop out in the nose along with some toasted malt and mild earthy/leafy hops. It has a base of roasted and toasted bready malt flavors. There is plenty of sweetness up front with notes of brown sugar, sweet/buttery bread, diacetyl and dark caramel. The 7%abv adds only a slight touch of character and is mostly well hidden. The middle sees the addition of dried leafy and earth hop flavor along with some bitterness for balance. The finish has a nice blend of sweet malt, a hint of bitter dark chocolate and hops. It has a smooth, slightly slick texture with soft yet active carbonation in a solid medium to full body.
3.5Des malts brunis équilibrés, des houblons terreux discret et un alcool évanescent.
3.112oz bottle from Wegman’s, Buffalo, NY. Chestnut brown with a thin beige head; spicy malt aroma; some purple fruit from the roasted malts, and some powdered chocolate as well; and then a dry, nutty, finish. Not really a recognisable English style, but rather pleasant.
4.112 ounce bottle, brown pour medium tan head, strong malt aroma. Excellent flavors, balanced, solid malt backbone, hops and some fruit notes. Excellent brew!!
3.6Roasted malty aroma with some cocoa in there as well. Taste is the same. Not overly sweet with the amount of malt, has some solid balance. Overall a good beer. Slightly on the heavy side so prob more of a winter beer for me. Also has some spice to it (primarily cocoa) which makes it seem more wintery.
3.1On tap at the pub.The color is a dark brown with a beige head. The aroma is of roasted malt ,barleyand yeast. The taste is of barley, malt with some sweetness to it and bitterness at the same time.I did not find it that strong but good.
3.1Bottle; poured a very dark auburn brown color with a khaki, frothy head. Aroma of nuts, caramel, must, and some sweetness. Flavor had more fruitiness, of the overripe variety, and some sweetness. A touch more roasted. Did taste English, but to me was not overly great. Surprisingly a bit boozy.
2.712 oz bottle. Pours a deep ruby red/brown color with a slightly off white head that settles to a film. Aroma is mostly malt, roasted malt/burnt caramel, some alcohol and a touch of hops. Taste carries some of the caramel/malt aroma with it. I get a little bit of a roasted malt taste as well. I think it could use a bit more body to it, it seems a little watery. Finish carries more of a pronounced roastedness to it.
2.7Mettalic in aroma and taste. The bottle has ruined what may be an okay beer. Behind metallic is the taste of caramel and burnt chocolate. okay thickness on the tongue but the metallic made it horrible.
3.3Birra molto particolare di difficile inquadratura. Profumata e fruttata sia al naso che al palato, dopo una riveduta ne si apprezza l’equilibratura e la buona beverinità . Ottimo corpo e gusto amaro abbastanza pronunciato.
3.5Dark brown pour with a dense, foamy head. Big time roasted malt aromas and some earthy hops. Flavor is straight-forward malty sweetness. For a strong ale this is quite weak but overall it’s highly drinkable.
3.0Pours a cola color with a garnet hue. Taste is simple, almost watery. A mild sweetness with a bitter caramel aftertaste. The bitterness disappears quickly, leaving an easy drinking beer that wasn’t as complex as I hoped but overall good.
3.8Bottle:
Pours nearly black with a short, dark tan head.
Chocolate, wood, dark fruit aroma.
Taste is coffee, chocolate, malt....
Earthy, minimal bittering.
A very nicely done ale.
