Lakefront Cattail Ale

Lakefront Cattail Ale

This recipe is a true craft ale brewed with only water, yeast, hops and malted barley, in keeping with the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. We have designed it with a vibrant golden amber hue and a refreshing body. The mild addition of Kent Golding hops balances the generous amounts of caramel malts to give it a malty rather than a bitter finish. A special strain of California Ale Yeast gives the brew a slight hint of fruity aroma.

2.8 Golden pour with a small white head. Aroma of grass and hay. Flavor is somewhat soapy up-front but it does fade to a more bisquit flavor toward the middle. Goldings lend a cardboardish flavor towards the finish which isn’t really surprising or unpleasant. OK beer.
2.1 Bottle (355ml). Beer #6 and the last one of "Crappy to mediocre beer rating night". Pours a poor looking hazy golden-orange with a spare diminishing white head -- looks somewhat flat. Oh, that aroma is not much better: Quite grainy along with some tart fruit, vegetal notes and pale malt. Slightly watery flavour of mild tart apples, grain, pale malt and citrus. Average bodied. Wow, this was a big disappointment and a pretty crappy beer.
2.1 Lakefront Cattail Ale is a clear golden beer with no head. It smells a little funky with a faint note of lemon. It is soft and medium-light bodied with a clean finish. It tastes a little skunky and grassy. It’s very mild, but I can taste a little alcohol in it. I just wanted to taste a Mild Ale in a bottle.
3.0 (bottle - 12 oz) Hazy golden color with a thin white head. Aroma is dry and grainy at the beginning with a light sweetness from some malts near the end. Flavor is dry and grainy at the start with a lightly sweet malt middle and a very crisp finish. Aftertaste is very mild. Refreshing.
2.8 12 oz bottle from Lakefront brewery (Milwaukee, WI). Pours a golden hazy hue with small white bubbly head that dissipates to a film. Aromas are grainy at large, a touch of pilsner malt stink and light hop. Initial has a nice bitterness up front, moving to some mellow grainy malts, light mellow sweetness, and some light pilsner action. Light lemony citrus. Finishes crisp with a touch of grainy sweetness, light hop, and clean. Good for what it is.
3.4 12 oz. bottle - $5.00 at Taco Mac in Kennesaw, Georgia. Bottled During the 3rd Week of October. Appearance: Pours a nearly clear, coppery body with, despite an enthusiastic pour, only a very thin, extremely short-lived, white head. Smell: Faint notes of spicy, zesty Noble-type hops mixed with mild tones of crumbled, day-old biscuits. As it warms a bit, some light hints of fruit and flowers emerge. Taste: Lightly biscuity malts with an equally light sweetness attached to it. Predominately spicy hop character, with a tiny bit of lemon zest, and an overall medium-low bitterness. Floral hints in the latter half. Finishes dry and a bit crisp. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-high carbonation. Drinkability: Reasonably tasty and drinkable with a thirst-quenchingly low ABV percentage.
2.7 12oz bottle from BOTW. Clear golden pour with little to no head. Aroma is lightly sweet with maybe just a touch of spice. Flavor is light but similar to the aroma. Slightly spicy. Bland but OK.
2.7 Smells of astringent grassy hops. Taste is light malts and slight bitter hop flavor. Not bad, easy to drink. Nothing special
2.6 Pours a dark golden with a decent sized white head. A wee bit of honey in the aroma, not much else. Flavor has some of the same honey notes, a faint twist of citrus, and some yeasty notes, but overall slightly bland. Mouthfeel - a tad thin. would make a Decent summer refresher.
2.1 a mild ale eh? had kinda an off putting yeasty aroma. Grassy flavor, a lot like a pale ale to me, not that great.
2.7 Pours slightly hazy golden color with white head. Aroma of grains and light fruitiness. Bland flavor with some malt with a hint of hops. Light to medium body with average carbonation.
3.0 Clear amber pour, yeasty sediment from the bottom of the pour slowly descending. A couple finger of open white head leaves a generous lacing. Faint, quickly fading herbal aroma. Pleasantly sweet and cidery on the front, becoming drier, somewhat tart, grassy, and grainy on the finish. Thin, watery palate.
1.6 Golden pour. We were drinking PBR and I had one of these. It was about as good as the PBR. Maybe a bit worse. Slightly sweet flavor with no hops. Very thin. This is kind of an epic fail for a beer.
3.2 12oz bottle from the mix pack. Clear copper color with a thin white head. Malty and fruity aroma with some spice and sour character. Overly tart flavor with lots of malt, some hop and a thin finish.
3.0 bottle- pour pint glass. cloudy golden yellow color, not much head. doughy aroma, not stromg. lite citrus flavor with a nice bite. nice mild ale.
3.4 12oz bottle: Appearance is golden brown with quick fading white head, aroma of malted barley, flavor not bad pretty light has some citrusy flavors to it along with a light malt backbone. this beer very drinkable decent amount of complexity and really is pretty good.
2.8 Bottle marked bottled Aug week 4. Poured golden with a fizzy white head that disappears quickly. Aroma of grain, bread, and lemon. The flavor of grass, grain, and a light musty background. Medium body with a smooth texture. Just not hitting the spot though.
2.4 Pours a hazy, dull gold with a thin, fizzy and fast fading, bruight white head. A hint of caramel and light sourdough to the aroma, with some ciric fruitiness. Flavor is pretty weak and un interesting, sweet fruiy and yeasty notes with a hint of english hops. Boring and overcarbonated. Gotta say this would be o.k. as a summer beer but it was -30 with windchill while I was working last night, so not getting extra points for refreshing body.
2.7 Bottle from 8-pack (Aug 08). Hazy gold color, aggressively carbonated and light bodied. Not a whole lot of flavor, but also some packaged salami sourness. Forgettable, mostly.
2.7 Yellow color. Smell of bread, caramel, honey and malt. Taste of bread, malt, sweet corn. Not my cup of tea but still drinkable.
3.1 A nice translucent golen color with a thin white head.A malty nose with some sweetness.Flavor was mild and light.Pretty solid brew.
2.6 Golden color with a thin white head. Grainy aroma with a hint of hops. Somewhat malty body with a hint of fruitiness and a slightly tart finish.
1.7 Uh oh, the color of pee. Whatever it is about that, it just turns me off to the beer right away. This "mild" ale is pretty much the definition. Mild as hell. Not sure of the purpose of this beer.
2.9 A decent take on the style, albeit very mild...ahem. It’s just very light and smooth on the palate. A light biscuity texture with a bit of a sweet honey and fruity hop notes in the finish. Quite sessionable, but not very memorable.
3.2 Pours a clear dark gold with a thin off-white head. The nose is of sweet, light caramel malt with a fruity, floral and lightly earthy hop backing. Light to medium-bodied and soft with a slight mineral finish. The flavor is of sweet caramel malt backed by lightly bitter notes of fruity and floral hops. This one isn’t half bad; it’s actually a very serviceable session brew. I have to wonder if folks are drinking this one a bit too cold to allow it time to "open up". It’s certainly better than I was expecting given its score.
2.7 Pours a pale gold with thin fizzy head. Aroma is grassy hop, slightly skunked. Flavour is light malt with a nice fruity tone running through it. Grassy hop, light malty finish.
3.0 Bottle: Pour is a golden yellow with not much head. The aroma was a little bit skunked with hints of hops. The flavor was actually pleasant. There were some light hops present, but reminded me of a pilsner with hops. Overall, decent but not great.
2.8 12 oz bottle purchased at Metcalf Discount on 91st Street in Overland Park, KS. March WK4 notched on the bottle label. Pour is clear golden with a bunch of carbonation bubbles and a nice 2 inch off white head. Aroma is a bit corny, some earthiness below that. Taste has some sharp sweetness to it. Ripe pear, maybe? Below that initial taste is the corn. This tasted quite a bit like a macro lager to me. A decently smooth and made macro, granted, but still a little rough. Palate was thin to medium and made my tongue tingle a bit. Clean after taste.
1.9 scent is skunky with a hint of sour milk and not very pleasent. the taste is a little better with hints of corn and hops. finish is a bit sour. overall, not a very impressive brew.
3.1 Pour is medium golden with a small head. Aroma is slightly skunky with a light hop aroma. Flavor is very smooth and well blended with a medium fresh hop aroma. Decent brew that is easily drinkable however is not worth another buy.
