Lakefront Fixed Gear

Lakefront Fixed Gear

The energy and audacity of the fixed gear courier inspired us to create Fixed Gear™, a big, bold American Red IPA. It pours a glaring crimson tone with a rocky white head and a brilliant floral-citrus aroma, thanks to an aggressive Centennial, Cascade, and Chinook dry hopping. Gratuitous amounts of dark caramel malts lend Fixed Gear™ its immodest, malty spine, while Chinook and Cascade hops impart its balanced citrus bite. This one’s got an attitude!

3.3 Flaska på Thunder Bay Grille Pewaukee. Dimmigt rödbrun med beige skum. Lätt fruktig doft. Något klen maltbas med beska som slår igenom.
3.5 tastes like a mild ipa but with a darker color. It has a good bit of malt and a nice creamy mouthfeel too. Never had a red IPA before, so its got a weird appeal to it.
4.1 Nice aroma of caramel and pine resin. Beautiful reddish copper colour. Nice head. Bold taste of caramel and spruce as well as weak grass and toasted ... something. Bitter finish from the hops and a proper alcohol kick in the taste as well. One of the better beers I have had recently. Another excellent IPA from the USA. Nice work.
3.6 Ruddy, slightly misted copper body with a dollop of off-white cream on top that is mostly lasting. A hint of rich melanoidens on the nose give it an Anzac biscuit edge, otherwise there is a breath of roasted almonds, sticky marmalade, guava, abrasive hops and dried, mown grass. Chewy, biscuity and roasted, nutty malts dominate the palate but are softened by bitter, lastingly bitter, hops. Herbal and grassy, sharp with a touch of camphor and sappy resin. Lightly floral, earthy linger. Good body but actually light in the stomach so as to not weigh one down. Alcohol is there but melds in to lift the malt and hops. Leans towards the drier side overall which gets ticks from me. A likeable brew!!! (12fl.Oz, 6.8% ABV, BB 26/01/17, 1st Choice Liquor, Willetton)
3.3 From bottle in an IPA glass. Pours amber with frothy head and dank hop aroma. Finish has citrus-like sweetness against significant hop bitterness with ethanol peaking through.
2.9 BB 26 Jan 2017. Poured a murky deep brown amber (not really a ’red’) with a one-finger beige frothy head that diminished slowly to a collar that laced OK. Carbonation low, soft and fine. Aroma of subtle to moderate pine with a hint of sweet citrus. Taste of moderate strength pine, low sweetness, hint of spice and moderate strength grapefruit bitterness. Light to medium body. Dry with a grapefruity bitterness on the finish.
3.6 Pours in red copper colour with large off white head, good lacing, clear liquid. Medium strength aroma of spruce, herbs, citrus, caramel. Light sweetness, very bitter. Medium body, oily feel, soft carbonation, long bitter finish with definitive alcohol notes.
4.2 Since amber-colored beers named after bikes are about as American you can get, I really should’ve had Fixed Gear a long time ago. Ah well. All is mended in time. Fixed Gear pours red/burnt orange with a tan head. Flavors and aromatics of toffee, berry, and citrus (especially orange peel). Like a lot of Red IPA’s / hopped-up Ambers, Fixed Gear has a creamy body and it’s plenty lively with hops. Speaking of the hops, for a beer that’s not technically all that bitter (42 IBU’s), Fixed Gear comes across as fairly assertive. Tasty stuff.
4.1 This beer is tough. Nice blend of hops, copper. Refreshing beer in the summer time but could also warm you up in the winter.
2.9 12 ounce bottle from Badger Spirits in Beloit, WI, sampled a bit above fridge temp from a Fitger’s pint glass. Red IPA eh? That’s what it says on the bottle. I missed all the "colored" IPAs in my time away from here - Black of course has become commonplace, but I also see White a lot, and this Red. Did somebody brew a Rainbow IPA for marriage equality? A Purple IPA to commemorate the passing of a Prince? Anyway...it pours a murky medium amber-copper, with a chunky off-white head that leaves lovely patterned foam-flecks in the glass....the aroma is a pleasant, slightly pungent mix of wet earth, pine, and a touch of orange, fairly sweet...body is generally fairly sweet, a bit of tartness in midpalate, and tending towards a moderate bitterness in the end, juicy and lightly fruity throughout...there’s also just a hint of barnyard quality towards the finish (not necessarily appropriate here); the palate is a little rough, body is slightly watery, carbonation average. Not entirely sure what to make of this but on the whole I’m unenthused.
3.2 Smell is a little more flowery IPA...taste is smooth and malty...drinking a good amount so can’t rate great...john’s house olympics/D&D....X2 after given as gift by Mario, Ann's friend from Florida pre Halloween party 2017
2.6 Poured from the bottle into a standard pint glass. the pour produced a cloudy caramel body withe a medium head of tan foam which diminished leaving minimal lacing. It has a good aroma of caramel and hops, though it diminishes somewhat throughout the tasting. The body is on the light side, which carries a strong hops flavor, modified ever so slightly by a touch of sweetness (which is helped along by slurping, causing aeration). The hops used in this ale are quite bitter, and leave a strong aftertaste on the sides of the tongue, overpowering the caramel finishing notes. Initially, I was impressed with this beer’s look, and was hoping for a mellower IPA, something approaching an amber ale. This was not the case, and the lingering aftertaste was off-putting.
3.7 Look: hazy amber with red shades, fluffy white head with average retention. Aroma: toffee, sweet citruse, pine. Taste: dry with moderate grassy and spicy bitterness. Flavour: caramel, toffee, toasted bread, wormwood, grassy hops. Bitter finish. Good.
3.6 Roasty toffee malt in the aroma, quite floral; murky amber color with a frothy beige head; bittersweet flavor with a good blend of caramel malt and earthy-herbal hops, spicy, good level of bitterness; medium body, slightly chewy; good hoppy amber. Draught at Hollander in Milwaukee, WI.
3.7 0,33 bottle. Pours murky red color with high, slowly diminishing head. Strong aroma of pine and citrus. Flavor is light to medium sweet, medium to heavy herbal bitter. Medium long strong bitter finish. Average carbonation, medium body. Very drinkable.
3.8 (Kiev 2016) 355 ml. bottle. BBF 05.10.16. Cough syrup amber with a small tanned head. Nose is pine resin & cough syrup, bit too heavy on the biscuit malt, light sugar. Taste is medium herbal hops, bit too much biscuit & toffee, tad too sweet, low bitterness, herbal pine, tad too sweet, lightly bland, low medicinal hops in the finish. Creamy toffee & biscuit body. Doesn’t really pop but still a pleasant enough and easy beer, not bad, could have been more but not bad as it is.
5.0 Good beer that will get you drunk quick, only have to hold your breath for the swigs of the first 1-2 bottles, after that just rolls down your throat.
3.5 From bottle. Pours deep amber with medium white head. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, pines, malts, caramel. Medium body with soft carbonation. Taste is moderate sweet with medium bitter finish.
3.1 Aroma: grass, pines, walnuts Taste: dry and tart taste of hops and nuts. Interesting but not impressive
4.1 12oz bottle to tulip. Pours ruby/amber, solid beige head. Aroma of biscuit, orange rind, grapefruit, mango, perfume. Taste of same with astringent bitterness barely balanced with a huge malt bill. Lots of rye to balance. Mouthfeel is heavy syrupy.
3.1 Burnt umber color with a moderate, manila folder colored head and decent lace. Aromas of stewed fruit. Some sweet caramelized malt and herbal hops in the background. I keep sniffing, but not much more to this one. Sweet toasted malt in the front. Some mildly rancid nuts work their way in along with some licorice and bitter herbal hops. Just not my type of brew. I’d call it a IIA (imperial Irish ale).
3.2 Pours a nice clear brownish orange. Aromas of caramel, hint of fruit and hops. Nice creamy malt taste with a nice finish.
3.2 ThIs amber had a sweetish nose and flavor with a bit of citrus/orange and pine to go along with ample caramel. Mouth is weak like most lakefront beers I’ve had, but otherwise good.
3.3 12 oz bottle. Clear amber with an inch of off-white head. Aroma of caramel and bread crusts, pine, oranges and pepper. Smooth, medium-bodied. Toffee sweet with pine-tinged bitterness bursting through towards the finish.
3.0 12 oz. bottle. Poured mahogany with a tan foamy head. Aroma was citrus and sweet grass. Taste was slightly bitter.
3.4 It's okay...strong taste which is good. This brewery doesn't seem to excite me much.
3.4 Amber pour with a thin white head. The flavor is mild and seer with a good hops balance. Very session able. It's good but it wouldn't stick out in a line up.
4.7 Very nice drink, smooth on the palate, not overly bitey. I think th e rye really rounds this beer out. I will definitely be buying more in the near future.
3.2 Bottle 12fl.oz. [ As Lakefront Fixed Gear ]. Clear medium amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, hay, caramel - pale malt. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration, sweet malt, caramel. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20150811]
3.8 Pours ruby red with a yellow tan head. Thanks bro-in-law. Aroma is pine citrus hops. Very bold. Taste is malty with some good bite. Well balanced. Very good.
