0.9Am Anfang ist das Bier recht süß, wird aber schnell unangenehm sauer, das man das Gesicht verzieht. Furchtbares Zeug, ist das vergammelt??
Test vom 1.10.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 3,4,2,1,5,2 - 2,40
2.8No head, flat-looking and ugly. The nose is distinct and strong, sour and sweet and mildly acrid, not good but curious. Tastes insane, with a honey-sweet maltiness coupled with lemon-tart sour and a toasted, woodsy, herbal-honey finish that would definitely be nicer with a few bubbles. I can’t go so far as saying I like it, but this beer is history in a bottle, so I dig what it represents.
2.7You mean this isn’t supposed to be a sour beer? The aroma seems JUST like a sour, there is a lot of sweetness in there after you try it out a bit more. Not much head, lots of bubbles on the glass, brown and quite hazy. Tastes only faintly of the sweetness from the smell, there is some definate malty buscuit flavour and that sourness at the end. If I knew there was junipers in here before I tasted it I would have expected it to taste like gin, but it definately does not!
3.3Very little head to it, the aroma is that of a red ale with hops and what I assume is junipers. Relatively sour flavor to it, which I don’t care for in a beer. Not sure if its supposed to taste like because this sample might be old.
3.4Bottle. Amber-brown beer with no head. Juniper and malt aroma. Juniper and malt flavor with some salt. Medium bodied. Juniper and malt lingers with salt.
2.3Has a strange aroma to it, you think it’s skunky at first, but then realize it’s more complex than that. I’m not much of an alcohol smeller, so that was enough for me. It pours dark brown to murky, with minimal head. Boring label away from the skull cap and the antlers. As for taste, I could see how someone else would like it more, but I strongly dislike ’tart’ or ’bitter’, so it doesn’t rank high there either. It has a full body and is 7%, so it gets points there, but I wouldn’t be overly excited to give my first Suomi beer a second chance.
3.1Pours a hazy copper brown with no head. A medicinal warming aroma, probably the juniper popping out to smell. A souring tart body with a chewy appled malted body. Lingering sour touch on the palate periphery. Interesting but not particularly tasty.
3.6This is an interesting Sahti. It doesn’t have much head and is a magentalike color. It is tarter than other examples with the juniper really standing out.
2.9Bottle from City Beer. Pours gunky orange/brown with almost no head, just a few bubbles, and a fruity spice aroma. There is a strange sweet and sour medicinal flavor, probably from the juniper, that is interesting, but not particularly tasty.
3.0Bottle. Hazy pinkish dark amber with little to no carbonation showing. Nose shows initial hints of jammy red fruit, strawberry in particular, mixed with a burnt sugar/caramel with light notes of oxidation. The nose is actually quite nice, and im sure I would like it more if I had tried this blind. Slippery and oily on the palate, still flat, with a lightly tart flavor which ends just tasting like watery metal. It’s interesting and it definitely caught me by surprise.
3.5Thanks turd for sharing. Pours a murky copper amber with no head and a visually apparent lack of carbonation. Nose is super interesting, very fruity and spicy with notes of bread. Has an almost lactic tartness to the nose. Flavor is pretty similar to the nose and the palate exhibits a lack of carbonation. Fruity and sweet with notes of juniper and spice and a mild tartness to the palate. Body isn’t too heavy and I makes me wonder where the fruity sweet character is coming from, would benefit from some carbonation
2.4330 ml bottle. Rated @ 2.7.2010.
Pours a dark amber colour with a very small white head. Sweet on the nose with sugar notes. Sweet on the flavour too with caramel malts, juniper and other spices. Butter notes too. Medium bodied with a greasy mouthfeel. Too sweet for me.
3.0Bottle courtesy of EithCubes. Pours a murky, amber body with virtually no head and chunky particulate. Pitted fruit in the nose with touches of alcohol. Flavor of dark cherry, raisin and a little brown sugar. Medium body with little to no carbonation. Malty with no hop presence and the spices are lost on me. Overall decent. It shows promise, but is pretty muddy.
2.111.2 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a hazy amber color with particles that settle on the bottom. Nearly no head. Aroma of toffee, caramel and faint notes of dried fruits. The taste is sweet malts, raisins, and a faintly herbal finish. Medium bodied. Reminds me of a bad baltic lager. Not a good beer. 6/1/10.
3.1Bottle from Parti Pak. Malty nose with rubbing alcohol overtones. Beautiful herbal top with lesser berry and rich slick Weizen/wheat notes. A tad minty. Dark orange edging to brown with an ephemeral head and some chunks on the bottom. Tastes of lagered German wheat beer/bock mixture and light mint and bright herbal smoothness. Citrus is light and bright. Malt is muddled and lost. Basically no carbonation, a bit like it’s straight out of a fermenter. Medium, slippery, layered body, very low sweetness and bitterness. Not sure how to evaluate a sahti, but as far as sacred and healing beers go, this is smooth and drinkable on the daily.
4.3Lammin Sahti Oy--Finland--Kataja Olut IV B--2005 11.2 oz. Bottle. 7.00% ABV. 40 IBU’s? (4.5 / 5.0) Sahti Brew. Mild head. Clear bright amber golden color. Tangy Juniper Berry floral mild hop front. Cloying sweet crisp rich tasty complex malty caramel body. Clean mild balanced Juniper hop end. New unfamiliar flavor. Sampled 3/2/2005.
1.7Bottle labeled Kataja Olut. Pours dark hazy amber color with almost no head. Fruity aroma and kind of funky, but not necessarily in a good way. Sour, tart and fruity cranberry flavor. Medium body with no carbonation. I wouldn’t recommend trying this.
2.4Pours cloudy amber resin. Nose is roasted malt. Taste is sweet and doughy with a spicy finish. Rated 8/14/08
3.3Pours a hazy deep amber with no head to speak of, even with an agitating pour. aroma is of very toasty malt with hints of tart berries. Palate is slightly sticky with toasty malt, and a tangy, tart finish that presents an interesting medicinal quality. I really like traditional ales in general, as much for the stories behind them as for their unexpected and widely variable character. This was a nice one, that paired well with my wife’s legendary citrus and herb fresh roast chicken.
2.9Bottle shared by ShareANevada (BA). Pours a slightly hazy amber brown color with zero head. The aroma is moderately sweet bready malt, mildly fruity witha splash of juniper. The flavor opens with sweet bready malts, some fruitiness, but quickly the spices come through as does the juniper. Midway through the finish this becomes quite dry. Interesting, but not my thing.
3.4Bottled. Beautiful clear red colour and practically no head. Aroma of sweet maltiness and so is the taste as well. Obvious sahti characteristics and juniper present here which is only a good thing. Strong body and oily mouthfeel. Damn, I’ve been passing this one for too long!
2.0marginally gross aroma of sour milk, honey, and bitter spices. it pours blurry orange and totally flat. flavor is also odd, sweet and sour and fruity but tastes like something gone bad. fairly thin, leaves a slightly unpleasant sweet-sour lingering fruitiness. no way i can finish this, but it’s interesting to try i guess.
1.9Pours clear off-amber color. No head.
Nose is faint with some miscellanous fruit.
Palate is a sweet and sour flavor with some prickle-y flavors in there as well. Low carbonation. Not sure why this beer is supposed to be special.
Finish is short, dissipating quickly. Not much going on.
3.0Little bottle. Fruity aroma. Red amber color. Flavor is strong citrus, not so sour like lammin sahti. Aftertaste is short bitter.
2.3Has a nice forest/honey scent, but tastes quite interesting, sort of like honey, pine, and the juniper definitely comes through. Has a syrupy mouthfeel, not to sure what to make of this really.
2.7Pours clear copper/amber no carbonation .... sweet aroma of malt and juniper ..... taste of sweet malt .... little syrupy and a berry taste the 7% is hidden well ... something different not really a pounder would def have again
2.53rd August 2008. No carbonation. Mild caramelly taste with a vague hint of something fruity underneath. Inoffensive but surprisingly bland!
3.3Bottled. Nice clear copper, small beige head. Hint of banana syrupiness on the nose, wood and earth, some metal, mildly sahti-like. Good syrupy flavor, sweet and simple, some alcohol, juniper, solid bitterness and caramel. Slight cellar in the finish when warmer. Almost full bodied, lush and a bit oily palate. Warming and caramelly.
3.1Clear red/brown color with no head. Aroma: Bread, fruit, yeast and juniper. Taste: Very fruity, juniper is not very present. Clearly has some of the characteristics from sahti. Low carbonation. A little to sweet to me, but still a pretty good beer.
2.4Bottle. Pours muddy brownish body with an orange tint, no head. Sweet aroma of berries, barnyard and some caramel. Semi-sweet/malty flavor. Again, some berries and sweet banana malts. No carbonation. Slight and I mean slight little bitter kick finish. I didn’t detect any juniper in this beer. Not so bad.
