Sweet malty ale, complex blending of four different malts, as the name indicates.

2.5Pours a dark murky copper with a very thin tan head that does leave some lacing. The aroma is basically undetectable. The taste unfortunately isn’t much better. There seems to be at least one too many malts. Not well balanced and it leaves kind of a funky bitterness at the very end that isn’t all that desirable. I wish I had better things to say but this one disappoints.
2.5Beer of the month, pours rusty to orange with a nice head, aroma of marmalade, vanilla, milk, barley, flavor of strawberries, orange, bitter notes and marmalade, medium bodied
3.0This was apart of a case I bought while on a trip to Pittsburgh. O PA beer laws. Poured a cloudy orange, nice head. Smell was mostly bitter grain, some butter sweetness. Taste was pretty mild, not much to it. Overall better then a macrolager, but not clamoring for it again.
2.3Bottle, beer of the month club. Was looking forward to the delivery, having been into anything Penn Dutch for years. Clear dark amber with a little head. Smells of caramel, old grain and wine, tastes unpleasantly bitter. Sticky texture, light body, too long finish. Disappointing.
2.8Light, tastes like Amish water, a religious community beer with a great beer wrapper...
2.6Bottle. Beer of the month club. Clear amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma of light floral hops, some malt and graininess and a hint of butter. Sweetish flavor with some malt, grains and caramel notes, continues mildly bitter with light hoppiness. Medium-bodied. So-so.
2.0Nice looking beer, little aroma, mild flavor. Certainly not bad. I’d definitely have another.
2.2Bottle from Cavie. Orange pour with a white head. Aroma is sweet grain and caramel. Taste is watery, a little metallic, caramel, and light grain.
3.1Toasted caramel malt body. Light sweetness with some moderate fruit notes. A dusting of pine and grass on the finish.
2.9nice beer; orange cloudy pour nice bready mouthfeel good balance between malt and slight hops.. easy to drink.
2.9Not a big malt taste but good body. Hops spice is good. Not too bitter. A drinkable beer that lacks the promised complexity of four grains.
3.7NCAA 2012
Aroma - LIght roasted malt
Appearance - Dark clear amber
Taste - light malt
Palate - smooth but a bit of a bite at the finish
Overall - A solid brew, much more malty and less hoppy than a typical American Pale Ale
3.3A bit more malty than the pilsner. Has a bready taste with a strong hop presence in the finish.
3.2from beer of the month club
Pours an amber color with thin white head with a bit of chill haze. Aroma is mostly toasted malt. Maltier profile, hint of citrus. Not too hoppy here. Tastes almost like a Irish amber. Decent flavor although slightly syrupy as this warms. Palate is a bit heavier but not cloying.
2.8Pours a bit darker than I expected with a deep brownish red tone. Virtually no head, no lacing but that could have been the fault of the pourer. A bready sweet aroma with some astringency up front but a grainy, earthy finish.
3.412 oz bottle. Pours orange with small sturdy white head. The aroma is fruity with strawberry, pineapple, and peach notes and a semi-sweet grainy character. The flavor is rich and bready, though not cloyingly sweet. There are fruity notes of pineapple, kiwi, melon rind, and faint shallot. There is a dusty bitterness to the finish. Not bad.
3.0Bottle. Clear bright copper with a moderate off white head. Caramel malt and very, very light pineapple hops aroma. Toasty malt flavor and a light bitter finish. Pleasant but unremarkable.
3.4A nice amber body with a white head that had great retention and good lacing. It did have a light/watery look to it and the carbonation was mild, but with these slight faults it still looked good. Aroma had a mild caramel malt upfront, some toasted malts and a mix of citrus and floral hops. Flavor was well balanced, definitely made out the caramel malts. I got a slightly off-setting corn flavor and a mild taste of rye in the finish. Hops were slightly bitter. Finish was smooth and light.
2.8Pour is a dull orange with a small white head. Aroma is a decent caramel malt and not much else. Flavor is some grainy malt with not much of a hop profile. Nothing really great as this has almost no hops showing up for being classified as a APA.
2.6Dark amber. Thin white head that disappears almost immediately. A fizzy version of an apa. Flavor is mostly sweet with no real hop character at all. Eh.
3.1Aroma of banana bread and caramel malt. Taste of bready yeast malt and a light ending bitterness. This was fair.
2.312oz bottle pours a bright amber orange with a medium tan head. Aroma is floral, honey, and caramel, four grain eh? Taste is slightly sweet but overall bland and no where near "complex." Forgettable.
2.1Via Microbeer of the Month Club - Sorry friends, this doesn’t work at all. Wet biscuit. Bland malts. no fly zone.
3.3Botttle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours hazy orange amber with little head. Aroma is roasty/bready with something that suggests hop. Med body. Flavor is slighty roasty bready with a suggestion of bitterness that might be from hop or grain. It has so much malt that it drinks like a beer with a heavier ABV. So it’s finishing sweet, but not so sweet as to be sickening, and the bitter is building with time. Some might call this balanced. I’m not always good at that determination, but it looks like it’s not a drain pour. Surprised about that.
3.4You know, the Amish only go around once in life so they have to grab for all the gusto they can, even in the beer they drink. And when they drink beer they reach for a Lancaster Amish Four Grain Ale.
Bottle pours medium copper with faintly yellow foamy head with good persistence. Aroma sweet malts and fruits with some citrus hops. Sweet taste, kind of a corn-like adjunct effect but I have to say overall I like it. Finish minimal hops, not what you’d expect from a APA.. Palate slightly sticky and syrupy. Alcohol not apparent.
I didn’t expect to like it but I did.
2.812 oz bottle. 3rd of 4 beers in my "beer of the month/season" shipment. Pours a copper color that catches the light well, with no real head to speak of. Smells of sugary gum-like aromas, maybe some vanilla, and malt. The taste is similar to the aroma, but with a lot of wheat thrown in too (note: I hate wheat flavors). Very light mouth feel, and a bit watered down. Swing and a miss, I’m afraid.
3.1Bottled. Poured clear, light-medium orange with a tall, whipped off-white head. The aroma picked up sweet honey, bready notes, and wet grains.. quite sweet overall.. just a little citrus and fruity hop presence around.. decent balance, and no real complaints. The flavor found honey and doughy sweetness at the core with fruity notes and assorted grains around.. some vanilla around there too.. again very sweet, with little hop presence. Light-medium bodied and sweet as mentioned on the palate.. just a touch of grainy sourness.. OK and very drinkable overall.
2.4Pours a hazy amber with a white head and malty aroma. Taste is of sweet malts, hops, grains, and fruits with a sweet, long finish. Nothing special about this brew.
2.6Pours a rusty cooper color, with light carbonation. Aroma is grassy and malty, and quite pleasant. Taste is bitte and complex, but do not like the flavor or appreciate the four grain mixture.Taste is piney with hints of fruit ( banana) and just not there for me. Finish is medium and astringent. Quaff Score ( drinkability especially with hearty enjoyment ) 3 / 10
3.9I liked this. It was a fine pale. Wasn’t too carbonated and had a great flavor. It wasn’t complex, but simple. If you see it, it is worth a try. Best Pale I’ve had
