Lancaster Hop Hog IPA

Lancaster Hop Hog IPA

This formidable India Pale Ale has a hop aroma that demands attention. The bold, citrus hop flavor is balanced by a dry malt character making this refreshing ale a true classic.

3.2 355ml bottle. Has a piney and citrus characteristic, relatively dry but a mediocre ipa.
3.3 The aroma is fruity, pine. The pour is deep amber, clear, off white head. The flavor is caramel, toffee, pine, slight metal. The finish is pine, fruit. Medium in body. Decent.
3.7 Lancaster may not be a West Coast Hop Head’s dream at 60 IBUs, but remember that it’s "Dutch" country, which translates into Deutsch (Deutschland/Germany). It has more of a malt backbone, but it packs an ABV of 7%, which is stronger than Victory Hop Devil or Dogfish 60 MIN IPA. It is a solid beer with a good appearance, nose, taste, and mouth feel; however it’s not going to give you that hop punch. I would give it a try, especially if you’re transiting into a IPA from a lager or pilsner dominated offering. Cheers!
3.1 bottle shared with hakes drive at the DUB! Orange, clear, white head. Nice fresh hop fruit, lots of hop flavor and low bitternesss, good stuff, yio
3.2 Smooth, hoppy. Some pine and resin, a bit of malt underneath. Some hints of citrus zest, but not much. Rolling finish with hoppy bitterness.
3.1 Appearance: pours with a smaller beige head that dissipates quickly, the beer is a hazy light amber color Aroma: caramel, egg, graham cracker, faint grass Taste: caramel malt sweetness, some smoke, moderate bitterness, hint of alcohol warmth Palate: medium mouthfeel, average carbonation, bitter aftertaste Overall: I like this beer, not very bitter but has a nice malt and hop balance,
3.6 Bold amber body with medium head. Nose is hoppy, caramel, floral. Taste is hops, citrus, floral, plums. Really nice. Smooth and creamy texture. Punchy finish. Enjoyable.
2.4 Bottled@Oliver Twist, Stockholm (backlog). Pale copper colour, small off-white head. Aroma is fruits, glue, alcohol, grains and some other rubbery notes. Flavour is citrus, fruits, toffee, glue, alcohol and some mild metal and rubber to it. Not sure how the metal and rubber has come here, but makes the beer feel very unclean.
3.0 On draft at Bainbridge Barrel House in Philly. Color is a ruby to amber color with a large head and lots of lacing. Aroma of light pine, some citrus and malt. Taste is mostly malt with the slight touch of hops in the finish. Feels more like a pale ale than an IPA. 5.50.
3.4 Bottle pour dark gold with copper hue, lots of fine floaters, and thin white head. Nose dank, some citrus, and sweet malt. Taste bitter up front, then light lemon hop, and moderate grainy malt. Moderate bitter through the finish. Somewhat interesting mix of lemon and grain.
3.5 12 oz bottle poured at my brother’s house in Methuen, MA. Pours a hazy amberish/orange with minimal beige head. Smells of hops and some citrus, perhaps grapefruit. Tastes like hops and slightly of lemon. Finishes with a nice bitter taste. Drinkable.
2.7 Bottle from a friend. Pours transparent gold with a white head. Aroma of bitter hops and citrus. Taste of bitter hops, grapefruit and slightly malty. Medium bodied and lots of carbonation.
3.7 Pours a clear sparkling amber with an average size off-white head. Aroma is nice and sweet and hoppy with spices, citrus and malt. Taste of citrusy and resiny hops with some sweet malt and spices. A long bitter finish. Medium bodied.
3.6 Been outta the loop for awhile but its great to be back rating beers again! This IPA pours a copper color with frothy head. A light aroma of floral scents lightly present upon my nose.. Upon first taste, it has a piney, hop infested flavor that almost reminds me of a cali brewed IPA style.. Not too malty on the backside and its has no overwhelming aftertaste.. I like its original punch, wish it had a little more under the hood but all said, its not a bad brew. Possibly even could qualify as a "sessionable" IPA
4.2 One of my favorite IPAs from my home town. Nice bitter taste and a good aftertaste. Really liked the appearance. Good aroma.
3.8 Sweet malty aroma and a golden hazy pour with little head. Lots of malt flavor for an IPA and it has a sweet caramel malt finish. Not what I expected but good nevertheless.
3.5 On tap at bar in PHL. Moderate high citrus aroma. Clear am er with moderate ivory head. Taste is citrus and solid malt background. Sweetness prevails.
3.2 Transfer from BA review on 3-24-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – Pours a nice orange amber color with a one finger orange tinted head. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to give lighter level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell- The aroma is sweet of tropical fruits of tangerine and mango with other fruit aromas of a light apple and some other sweeter notes of caramel. Mixed with these sweeter aromas is a citrus hop aroma of a grapefruit as well as light lemon smell and some breadier aromas. Taste – The taste starts out with a bready and malty flavor with flavors of a light fruit flavor. The fruit was largely of an orange and pear flavor upfront with some lighter fruit flavors of apricot. As the flavor advances hop flavors of a grapefruit nature greet the tongue. The grapefruit remains relatively constant throughout and is joined by some more hop flavors. The hop flavors that come at the end are of a sour lemon flavor as well as some lighter herbal flavors. At the end the mix of fruit, citrus, bready and hop flavors leaves a lightly bitter sour flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thinner side with a carbonation level that is fairly average overall. Not the best feel for the style in my opinion as it is slightly too light to accentuate the relatively moderate hoppier flavors, although even with this being so, it was OK for the more sour lemon flavors of the beer, keeping them from becoming too overpowering. Overall –Nothing too special here. The beer was not quite hoppy enough and had a little too much sourness.
3.0 An IPA that is past its prime. Not much if anything on the nose. Some lemon? Golden pour from draft, good bit of biscuity malt, with a bit of hop at the end. Wet pine?
3.5 Nice balance. Sweet, malty finish.
4.0 A darker copper color. A flowery scent. More malt than hops. A smooth texture. Some caramel and coffee flavors.
3.6 12 oz bottle pours amber with a off white head. Aroma of citrus, malt and toffee. Taste is malty and citrus.
3.7 Draft pour at Beer Camp. Decent cites hop aroma, sneaky 7% ABV. Not over hopped and somewhat balanced hop/malt. Not bad at all.
3.6 Pours a clear is orange. Whire head. Malty piney hops. Pretty drinkable IPA. Decent. ...
3.4 Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Appearance: It has a straight up amber body with a tall just off white head. It’s head fades quickly to just a thin wispy layer and lacing is minimal. Smell: The aroma has a sweet honey and bread like grain character with a touch of candy like sweetness and hint of orange blossom. Taste / Palate: It’s flavor leans more on the sweet malty side and it matches the aroma note for note. As an IPA this is way out of character. To me it feels more like a nice easy drinking pale ale.
4.0 This is a really nice IPA. Feels lighter than it really is. A nice lingering bitterness. Pine and bread.
3.9 Southern Boss’s younger brother. Another great IPA. Looks the same as Southern Boss with an almost same taste. Amber brownish color. Great IPA smell.
3.5 Draft at Milkboy Phila. Dark amber pour with a decent foamy beige head. Sharp red fruits. Rich raspberry/blackberry notes with a lot of strong black thistle notes. Honey pumpernickel flavors. Sweet, but reaching into the good stufffff.
3.5 Poured brown/amber – fairly dark for an IPA. Faint floral and citrus aroma. Taste is grapefruit and pine with a bitter finish that lingers on the tongue.
2.8 Keg @ Sedona. The pour’s deep gold with a small head. The nose is pretty neutral, a bit old maybe. Some caramel, bread, summer fruits. The taste is of white pear, apple, mild citrus candy. Bready body. Soft carbonation. Middle of the road.
