3.9 On tap at brewery. Pours black with a tan head. Roasted malt aroma with cocoa and coffee. Flavor is roasted malt with caramel notes, black coffee, and chocolate followed by lactose sweetness and a earthy hop finish. Had this one multiple times over the years. This brew is a true classic.
3.5 Black pour with a thin creamy khaki head and lots of creamy striped lacing .... Aroma of powdered cocoa, milk chocolate, light lactose and roasted coffee .... Taste is of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted coffee, light lactose sugar and roasted malts .... Sugar isn’t overbearing just right with a dry bitter roasted finish ..... Finish is of lactose sugar, cocoa, coffee and roasted malts .... Solid and easy drinking balanced brew
3.5 Pours motor oil black roasty aroma chocolate milk flavor mixed with coffee
2.9 12 oz bottle recieved from friend. Poured into pint glass. Dense two finger tan head hangs around a while. Beer is very dark brown. Aroma is mostly weak and bland. Taste is medium sweet with a light bitterness. Notes of vanilla, chocolate and nuts. Medium bodied beer. Average carbonation. Overall an ok milk stout, nothing special.
3.7 355ml bottle from The Perfect Pour. Pours black with a thick brown head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is primarily roasted malt, a little coffee. Flavor is much more coffee, some chocolate develops more slowly, mildly sweet and not really bitter at all. Very smooth but a little thin.
2.2 Medium brown, nitro head. Has a massive vanilla nose and taste. Not balanced and out of style. Garbage example, nothing but fake vanilla. Not what the style is.
4.4 Jet black pour with minimal head and lacing. The aromas include chocolate, roasted malt and black licorice. Initially the flavors show a nice, almost burnt roasted malt and milk chocolate. Nice creamy mouth feel, a little sticky and slick especially for a 5.3% ABV beer. Smooth, dry bitter finish. Top notch regular milk stout
4.2 12oz bottle. Starts with a mild bite with a little carbonation. Immediately followed by a tootsie roll taste. Smooth on the palate with a chocolate milk finish.
3.9 12 ounce bottle. Translucent black color has a minimal tan head that disapates quickly. Aroma has a roasted malt and mocha nuance. Reminiscent of Cocoa Puffs cereal. Flavor follows the nose with a nod toward Oveltine and " Black Coffee In Bed". There is an underlying creamy milk chocolate character here. Easily drinkable and quite tasty. Like a Tootsie Roll in a glass.
4.1 Pours black, big tan head. Sweet toffee, caramel aroma, maybe some cocoa. Taste is like a cappuccino or dark coffee with some hint of cream.
3.5 Rated from old notes. Very black, minimal head retention. Somewhat light bodied for a stout. Milky aftertaste reflects addition of lactose. Good drink overall.
3.2 Bottle from Total Wine, Sterling VA. Dark brown with next to no head. Sweetish throughout, with some prune and touch of chocolate. Solid, if unexciting, drinking.
4.8 Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is use motor oil black, very cool. The head is a very dark tan head. The aroma is full of malt and matches the appearance perfectly. The flavor is creamy roasted malt, a fantastic flavor. Overall, an outstanding beer.
3.7 Tastes like chocolate milk, hint coffee and a slight burnt flavor as well. Smooth as a baby’s ass. Very good.
5.0 Always love Lancaster Milk Stout - Actually the reason I visited the brew pub. It was amazing as usual and yes, I did take two growlers home with me. FYI the draft tastes better than the bottle
3.6 Pours a jet black color and holds a nice creamy head. There is some head retention, but it fades pretty quickly. Smells like roasted malt and burnt chocolate. Tastes like coffee and cocoa, with a bit of a nutty finish. A pretty solid stout here.
2.6 The smell is milk chocolate, the look is a thin very light brown head and dark body, the taste is bitter coffee and bitter chocolate, not what I was looking for. Almost no sweetness. Very disappointing taste.
3.6 From a bottle shared at home. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate. Flavors of cocoa and some coffee notes. Smooth roast finish.
3.6 Good. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is burnt chocolate and coffee. Medium body, finishes with wet cardboard and coffee notes.
4.0 12 oz. bottle poured at my brothers in Methuen, MA. Pours black with a tan head that dies quickly. At first sniff I thought I smelled manure (barnyard?) but after all I could discern was coffee. Little carbonation and a nice coffee finish. This is a very drinkable beer.
3.1 Sehr dunkel. Geruch nach Schokolade, ein bisschen Zigarettenasche. Im Mund nur leicht süß. Recht bitter. Die Ladung selber ist dominiert von Schokolade und Asche. Könnte komplexer sein.
3.0 Kräftiger Geruch nach Kaffee und etwas Schokolade. Im Geschmack eher erdig. Weder wirklich trocken noch besonders süß.
3.5 APPEARANCE – Dark brown. A couple shades light of black. Looks tasty, and fairly thin for a milk stout. Very thin head is gone in a flash with limited lacing. NOSE – immediate scents of chocolate and roasty goodness. Chocolate is on the lighter side, and very appetizing. FLAVOR – More light chocolaty flavors on the sip, that stick around for quite a while afterward. Tastes closer to an oatmeal stout than milk stout to me, but I guess that’s cutting it pretty fine.
3.8 March madness 2015. The beer has a nice aroma of roast coffee and some slightly sweet caramel malt. The taste balances the harsher dark roasted malt with the caramel and residual sugar in the beer. Hops is complementary and the finish is dry but not bitter. Nice beer.
3.8 March Madness 2015 - A solid smooth stout, but a little bit of a bitter finish.
3.5 Aroma chocolate, coffee, roasty, earthy, butterscotch, vanilla, Appearance black, frothy, brown foam, Taste medium sweetness, lightly bitter, Palate light body, thin feel, creamy, soft carbonation, Overall I would suggest this beer to a friend
3.7 Bottle to a pint. Dark brownish black hue with thin off white head and lacing. Sweet caramel notes with dark roast coffee and grain. Roasty malted sweetness... A bit thin in the mouthfeel, nice one...
3.7 Sample glass at tasting. Thanks Matt. The appearance was a nice looking hazy fairly dark brown to black color with a thin layer of white foaminess to the head. The smell had a nice roasty to sweet blend of chocolate to coffee. The taste was mainly sweet with an ample amount of roasty sweet coffee to chocolate intermingling between. There’s a slight sweet milky chocolate aftertaste leading to a sweet sticky finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. There’s a nice carbonation to the beer. Overall, I say this was a pretty good sweet stout that I would have again.
