3.8Aroma - coffee, alcohol, roast, and dark chocolate
Appearance - pitch black body with a dark brown head that slowly fades to a foam
Taste - roasted malt, chocolate, alcohol, and a carmalized sugar.
Palate - full body, texture is slick, average carbonation, long astringent roast
3.5dark tan head atop a perfectly black brew... Nice lacing and retention..
Good coffee as expected meshes with some dark cocoa and just enough malty residuals to deliver the nose and make it interesting.
Flavors are all there, but sorta fall short.. nothing really crosses any benchmark.. light cocoa and decent coffee bean flavors.. there could possibly be a bit more of everything and especially some maltiness that really delivers the malts and the beans.
Body is light given the ABV... needs more UUMMMPPPH!
Despite my above negatives, this is a pretty damn good brew.. Big Boned Coffee Porter for less than $8? Needs work, but I will buy again.
3.6Bottle shared by a friend. Darkest brown pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of coffee, malt and some chocolate. Malty and chocolatey flavor with some caramel before a slight coffee finish.
4.0From 22oz bottle to snifter. Pour us a oil like black with a thick and frothy beige head. Nose is huge roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, alcohol. Taste is sour with sweetness at times, heavy bodied with a very thick mouth feel. Very smooth finish, liked this one.
3.9Settling in to fall with this delicious Imperial Coffee Porter. The aroma has a subtle note of chocolate and a strong note of coffee. The reverse is true for the taste. It is strong on the chocolate and light on the coffee taste. It’s a heavier beer that goes down smooth even though it is 9.2% alcohol by volume. It is a classy beer and my scale is based on Matthew Mcconaughey scale. I give it 7 "All right, all right, all rights!" out of 10.
3.712 oz pour from chilled bomber into tulip glass. Black as night, totally opaque, slight evident carbonation, slight brown head. Nose is coffee, a bit sour, a bit sweet, and malty. Body is full and sharp. Taste is sour coffee, reminiscent of cold brew. Roasty with some burnt notes as well. A hint of dark chocolate back there too. Not a bad coffee porter.
3.4Rated based on notes taken 28 Sep 2012 -- Had high expectations for this brew, it was good. Not great. Drank well.
3.8Bottle of the 2012. Black with a light brown head. Aroma is green coffee, chocolate, caramel. Medium bodied, roasty on the palate. Taste is coffee, chocolate, caramel. Decent.
3.5The aroma is definitely more enticing than the taste. Kind of a bitter aftertaste on the palate. Got the beer at Grocery Outlet and it said it was brewed in October 2013. Nice buzz with a 9.2 Alc.
4.0Had a long time ago and updating the app. But I wrote the coffee was strong and good but it was a bit too bitter at the end for a higher rating. Had in bottle.
3.4Bitter chocolate, coffee, abundant roast, malts, hops, slight fruit notes. Smell is more enticing than the taste. Good balance. Can’t emphasize the roast enough.
3.8Nice little showing from a brewery I don’t get around to often enough. Quite solid coffee porter, Imperial style, with a nice little hop bite to boot. Respectable showing.
Serving size: 22oz bombs Away.
3.1Bottle. Pours dark brown tan head. Nose/taste of minerals, light vegetal matter, coffee, chocolate and vanilla. Medium body.
1.4Possible infected bottle? Pours a nice deep brown with a purple tint and a small khaki foamy heady. Aroma was weakly of coffee and an odd sweet smell. Taste was rotten fruit and vinegar. No coffee at all and undrinkable. Wasn’t impressed, but not sure if the bottle was bad or if I just didn’t care for it.
3.8Dark brown, almost black pour with large beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and a hint of chocolate. Taste of roasted malts, coffee, cocoa, hint of caramel. Medium bodied, perfect carbonation, creamy mouthfeel, slightly bitter finish. Very good beer!
3.9Pours a very dark opaque brown with a large light brown head and a bit of lace. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, and grainy. Flavour is coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, light alcohol, grainy, mild bitterness and a medium dry finish.
3.7Very dark brown color. Big roasted malt and coffee character. Medium full body, slightly acidic but alcohol is well hidden. Excellent imp coffee Porter.
3.722 oz bottle.
Dark mahogany, light tan head.
Coffee and coco aroma. Flavor is bold coffee, chocolate, roasty malt. Alcohol is well hidden
3.7Aroma: chocolate, pepper, coffee and malts. Appearance: nice dark brown/black color with mocha color head. Taste: coffee right away with hints of chocolate and spice. Very good porter, ranks up there for me. Getting this again!
3.9Complex aroma of spice, pepper, coffee and licorice. Pours a dark black with a well laced tan head. Tastes of chocolate and licorice, creamy feel with a bitter chocolate finish.
4.3Poured from a bottle. Part of a blind taste test. Great head. Dark caramel color. Sweeter chocolate and coffee, but not Mocha. My wife got this for me as a birthday present, and she is awesome!
3.1poured from a bottle. Medium brown color, small white head. Medium licorice aroma. Medium body with a malt and licorice flavor and a medium finish.
4.0Deep dark brown, touch of dark red around the edges. tight light brown foam. Aromas coffee, chocolate, toast. Taste is big, bold. Big sweet, moving to big bitter. Rich roast throughout. Creamy mouthfeel. Little bit of tingly booze on the finish. Very nice.
3.9Large Bottle - Rich black color. Notes of chocolate and dry roasted coffee aromas, slight alcohol smell as well. Very dry taste. Sweet porter taste but I don’t taste much of the coffee, more pronounced on the smell and only mild on the pallet. Not an everyday drinking beer but a great one for after dinner.
3.6Aroma strong of coffee. Appearance of a typical coffee porter. Tastes of slightly bitter chocolate and coffee.. Good.
4.0Bottle, shared with JJ. Pours the colour of molasses (but not the thickness, thankfully), with a reddish-brown head. Bold coffee aroma and flavour, "raw" if that makes any sense (i.e. there is a fairly strong vegetal character in addition to the hearty roast), with dark chocolate notes. Roasty bitter finish. Silky body, delicious.
4.0Pours nearly opaque black with deep ruby around the margins, a fat finger of tight beige head, great retention, excellent lacing. (5/5) Nose is creamy chocolate giving way to dark coffee and dark roasty malt. (8/10) Taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter, coffee astringency. (7/10) Full body, smooth and creamy texture, lingering astringent finish. (4/5)
Starts with loads of chocolate, and even a hint of milky creaminess, before the coffee takes over. The high ABV is very well integrated, with barely even a gentle warming on the finish to warn you of its presence. Generally pleasant, well-balanced, and well-behaved. The single biggest flaw - and it’s not a big one - is the way the coffee takes over with its intensity and astringency, through the middle and into the finish. A pleasant sipper regardless. (16/20)
4.3Dark, near black with deep tan head. Aroma is sweet creamy coffee a little chocolate and vanilla. Taste is coffee and light bitter chocolate. Very enjoyable.
3.9Aromas of roasted coffee, licorice, cocoa. Black with a mostly lasting dark tan head. Dry, roasty, rich with licorice. Full bodied.
3.5Appearance: Basically black, lots of tan head.
Aroma: Coffee, something else. Dark malt.
Taste: Coffee, overpowering. Burnt, malt, tar. Lacks balance.
