Laughing Dog Devil Dog

Laughing Dog Devil Dog

Devil Dog started as a labor of love but quickly took a life of its own, leaving us drooling like Pavlov's dogs at the mere mention of its name. At 98 IBU's and 5.2 pounds of hops to the barrel, the Devil Dog leaves you whimpering for more. Triple dry hopped and at 10% ABV, more than one of these bad boys will cause you to howl at passing strangers, chew up your toys and anything else you can get your sharp little teeth on.

3.4 Bottle pour at home split thanks Andrew for sharing, golden amber pour, this beer has a unfinished taste to it, you get a lot of mash and wort taste in this beer. Not saying it’s bad, it’s just different.
4.2 Pour from a 22 Oz bottle I got from Total Wine & More Boynton Beach. Hazy, dark orange with a one finger high creamy white head. A lot of lacing stays on the glass when the head dissapears. Nose: A lot of hops! Orange, grapefruit, sugar, malt, apricot and peach. Taste: Nuts, pine resin, apricot, citrus, brown sugar and biscuits. Body: Full, complex body with light carbonation. Creamy, smooth mouthfeel. A very soft beer! The alcohol is very well hidden. A great balanced beer between the bitterness and the sweetness. If I had the chance I would go back to this beer often!
4.0 Bottle from Hop and Hound, Bothell, WA; good price; 10.9% ABV It pours a hazy orange-copper-amber color with thick creamy head. Caramelly brew, sweet but not syrupy, mellow, fruity, with a touch of vanilla; it has a good body and it’s not chewy; it provides a lot of hop resins witr some piney character. Possibly too sweet in the final. Very good, not exciting as a pure pale malt IIPA, but also more drinkable than a first style darker example.
3.9 Hop assault right from the beginning. Hazy orange/amber body with small soapy head. Aroma is strong pine cleaner, taste is sharp and bitter, hops and citrus. Tang hides the high ABV which lurks in the background, but does provide some warmth in the throat. Medium lingering bitter finish.
3.0 Cloudy copper color with off white head. Aroma fruity malt with citrus and pine. Caramel malt with a bitter pine finish. Purchased this bottle then realized it had expired in December 2012.
3.5 22 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured cloudy, orange with a small head but a lot of lacing. Aroma of hops and citrus fruit combined with some malts. Taste a bit on the sweet side, the bitterness of the hops is there but perhaps a bit too sweet. Not bad, quite enjoyable.
3.4 I have a devil dog at home. 18 years old, full of spit and vinegar, two year cancer survivor, lived her life allergic to grass and with a bad liver. Now blind and deaf but well loved, comfortable, lives to eat and smell her way through all her haunts in the back yard. This devil dog beer does not match her, all the right parts, funk, fruit, citrus, alcohol, and malt, but just never all comes together. Not bad, just not special. Wouldn’t say no if offered though ...
3.5 Appearance: very hazy bronze color, pours with a huge beige head, the head is very creamy Aroma: syrup, grass, roasted malt, grain, butter Taste: citrus, apple maybe, alcohol, bitter finish, Palate: average carbonation, leaves mouth feeling wet, has a bitter aftertaste Overall: this is a good IPA with lots of subtle complexities about it, the alcohol is a bit high and dominates much of the experience,
2.4 22 oz bottle - June 2012 bottle rated on Jan 6, 2014. Gusher. That’s not a good sign. Once it stopped overflowing, it poured alright... hazy orange with a big off-white head. Then it got weird. I smell some grapefruit but more than that, I smell dirt and rot. No, it’s not "earthy" in some positive way. It’s more like the bottom of the compost bin. What the hell? The gusher part makes me think infection but it’s not sour. Fortunately it doesn’t taste like compost, not that I’ve tasted compost. It’s extremely bitter with some citrus notes, an underpowered malt backbone, an underlying off character, and alcohol. I think that in the flavor the massive bittering hops mostly but not entirely overwhelm the serious flaws that show up in the aroma. Disappointing.
4.6 Beautiful beer! This is never a let down. In fact, the only beer that does not fit my style from this brewery, is one of their more popular beers. The huckleberry cream ale. Everything else is money.
3.8 650ml bottle. Mostly clear amber with a lovely frothy head. Nose is piney hops, touch of winter berry underneath. Taste consists of a base of sweet caramel, above which sits fruity mango, citrus and lots of hop bitterness. Nice amount of carbonation. Very drinkable for the ABV. Not quite excellent but tasty and enjoyable for sure.
3.9 22oz bottle at Beerworks in Medford. Pours a murky amber color without much head. Lots of hops and a bit of yeast flavor. Alcohol only slightly noticeable.
3.8 On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours slightly cloudy orangish copper with no head. Aroma is thin sweet caramel malt and earthy piney hops. Taste is huge thick syrupy sweet caramel malt with big bitter hops. Pine, citrus, and earthy hop notes on the finish. Lacking the balance and nuance of best-in-class DIPAs, but there is a lot to like here.
3.3 22 ounce bottle from Total Wine Sacramento, very bitter, perhaps unbalanced. Booziness is handled well.
3.4 Bottle. Poured copper with a frothy off-white head that settled to a ring. Floral aroma with a light alcohol backing. The flavor found floral hops and caramel. Medium body and a mild bitterness.
3.6 Tap pour - @ RHP. Pours hazy orange with medium white head. Aromas of orange, vanilla, creamy pine and citrus. Round body, slightly aged it seems as more caramel flavors are showing up. Smooth finish, easy drinking at 10%. Pretty good.
4.0 cloudy light amber/orange pour - aroma of grapefruit - rich malt backbone with a superb hop balance - finsihes malty and peppery
4.0 Cloudy orange cream color. Frothy, medium white head, mostly lasting, lots of lace. Aroma is rich, sweet, citrus, orange, peach, grapefruit, caramel, floral, maybe a little vanilla(?). Flavor is much the same. Big, full body, smoooth hoppiness, creamy, mild lingering bitterness, a little dry. Very good.
3.4 Aroma not very pleasing, slight dirty sock smell Taste malty with a herb hint to it. Much better tasting then smelling. Nice clear color. Would drink another, just avoid smelling. Guess I am used to the flowery odors.
3.7 Bomber purs aclear orange/amber color with decent off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is mostly caramel malts, but there;s a touch of the requisite citrus and floral hops here, too. Body is medijm with average carbonation. Tastes sweet at first with some bitterness in the short finish.. Body is medium to full. Alcohol is discernable, but there’snothing foul in this. I’m glad to have tried this one, an average or better IIPA.
4.1 Pours a deep and dark amber/brown color with a thick off white head. Aroma is of hops, malts, bread, some caramel, and some earthiness. Flavor is quite a bit more malty than I was expecting. There’s definitely a hop presence and some booziness that comes right up front but it then smooths out and finishes with a subtle sweetness. Glad to have had this one.
3.4 Bomber. Caramel notes in in the nose are hindered by old, wet leaves. Mostly clear light amber with a thin, off-white head. Nice lace. Flavor is much better than the aroma. A very unique double IPA. Softly carbonated with caramel notes. Hops are hidden behind the alcohol. Warming, moderately sweet. Some pepper in the finish. A good brew, and one of the few I’ve had from the state of Idaho.
3.7 Bomber purchased at Holiday Wine Cellar ($6.29). Pours a clear orange-amber color with two fingers of long-lasting creamy white head which leaves some really good lacing. Aroma of sweet spiced caramel, spruce/pine forest, grapefruit zest, and some floral hops. Flavor of soapy caramel, grapefruit, pine needles, some sticky fruit, bready malts, and vegetal hops. Finishes somewhat bitter, somewhat sweet. Doesn’t conceal the big 10.85% quite as well as it should, but it’s not too boozy. Quite malty…seems to lean more toward a hoppy barleywine than a DIPA. (307, 773)
3.6 Poured a golden color with a big creamy looking head. Lots of lacing. Immediate aroma of hops, but its a malty hop smell, makes it sweet. Taste is slightly bitter, but malty with some caramel. Don’t think this leans towards the floral side. Much more pine and malt. Medium bodied to full, with a thick and sticky taste. This is especially true as it warms. The malty character comes out and it becomes thicker.
3.7 8th June 2011 Very hazy amber beer, big frothy pale tan head. Semi soft palate, smooth. Creamy smooth malt. Bitterish water chesnuts that remind me of Deus. Seamlessly blended orange and pine hop. A little aniseed in the smooth finish. Nicely joined up and unusual DIPA. Where does the water chesnut flavour come from? Bitterish aftertaste.
3.2 Clear amber with a billowing head. Reasonably good aroma but vegetal/grassy notes predominate before the bitterness starts to build through the finish. Fine but below average in the Imperial IPA world, which has some really outstanding beers. Bottle.
3.2 hazy amber/brownish pour with a medium head. aroma is strong caramel, bready maltiness and piney hop. Flavour is interesting mix of sweet bready malt. Slightly syrupy alc presence, floral and piney bitterness towards the finish.
3.8 From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours cloudy dark gold with a thick frothy head and lots of lacing. Citrus and bread dough aroma carrying over to the flavor. Bitter finish.
3.6 Bomber poured into a tulip glass. Pretty dark orange color with a medium beige head. The aroma is sweet and hoppy but nothing special. Tastes sweet and piney with notes of citrus. Pretty good beer overall but not an elite imperial ipa
4.1 Tap at Rattle & Hum. Clear dark amber. Thin white head, nice lace. Slightly citrusy and grassy hop character dominates the nose. Mouth is hop with pineyness. Slightly sweet alcohol at the mid-mouth, then the back is rough bitterness of hops that continues to bite. Lasting hoppy oiliness, drying long after the swallow. For the most part exactly what you want from a IIPA. ---via BeerBuddy
