3.6Nice 2 finger head drops leaving good lacing.. atop a clear pretty orange/lite amber brew.
Aroma is like huckleberry candy without the sweetness... the berries hint at an underlying sweetness, but it’s more like a berry essence... smells very nice.
Flavor is a basic beer with a bunch more huckleberry finish that lingers to a very slightly sour berry end. Middle of the road bready malts forces the berry flavor front and center... Not getting alot of hops... but a little citrus is evident. Light body that tastes thicker than it is... good carbonation helps keep the flavors moving across the palate.
This beer is great fresh... and still very good with a few months on it.
3.3Bottle to glass. Clear orange yellow. Short-lived bubbly head. Aroma is indeed huckleberry, yeast, sweet. Flavor berry skins, very slight yeast, bitterness is a bit metallic, not overly sweet but fruity enough to be soda-like. Moderately carbonated. Fairly refreshing. Not bad.
2.8Started fruity, faded to a more mundane ale on the finish. Better than most non-fruited cream ales, but came up shy vs. most fruit brews.
3.1Can picked up in Pocatello. Pours a clear gold color with a nice, foamy white head. The aroma is mostly sweet huckleberries (I assume since I’m no berry expert) and not much else. The flavor is mostly sweet fruit but it finishes with a slight bit of malt and hint of bitterness. Okay
2.9Can. It poured a straw golden color with a white head. The aroma was of huckleberry, quite different, with hints of pale malt and yeast. The Taste was similar to the aroma with more malt and yeast and a crisp finish. Interesting. Thanks Hayduke!
2.46 oz pour from refrigerated bottle into nonic pint. Orange and a bit hazy with a weak white head. Nose is sweet huckleberry. Very sweet. Like huckleberry syrup. Light bodied. Taste is a little cream and a hint of huckleberry. Not as much as the nose would suggest, though. Otherwise light and drinkable. The aroma is much too sweet for me though.
3.701.23.15 store label. Poured from a 12 oz can into a mason jar style glass on 02.03.15.
A: Strong huckleberries that could be smelled while pouring an arm’s length away.
A: 2 finger head. It stays at a constant 1 finger after receding. Hazy yellow orange body.
T: Huckleberries dominate. Grain and sweet malt (caramel?) are subtle.
P: Smooth and creamy. Bubbles are on the back. Very refreshing.
O: It is simple like a cream ale usually is, but it’s good. It’s sweet like a dessert.
2.1From the 12-oz. can (with a pasted-on label), Laughing Dog Huckleberry Cream Ale has a thin, white, quickly-dying head, an opaque, sediment-filled, orange-gold appearance, some stray bubbles, and no lacing left behind. The aroma is of odd wax paper, fruit acid, sweetness, huckleberries, berry skin, and white bread. Taste is of acidic berry juice, white bread, and background bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and somewhat chewy, and this beer finishes wet, fruity, and somewhat repelling. RJT
3.212 oz can poured. Pours orange witha big foamy white head. Sweet fresh strawberries on the aroma. I imagine it’s a lot of huckleberry as well, but like almost everyone, I’m more familiar with strawberries, and that’s what i notice. Flavor is strawberry as well, though light. Nice berry flavor with a slightly dry finish. This beer is exactly what I expected it to be. Light, easy drinking beer with a mild fruit flavor. Not bad.
2.1Poured from the can pale gold with a smell of fruity soap wafting through the air. The aroma is light, and smells as though I should be taking a long hot bath and soaking in these suds. The head caps it off with a very bubbly linen-white that is completely gone. leaving no trace at all within just a few minutes.
The first taste is not the soap I was expecting, but a sharp, metallic accompanied by the delicate traces of huckleberry within the light-bodied beer. The liquid has a sweetness after the immediate metal on the tip of my tongue and bottom lip, and the aftertaste is pleasant. It may be the only truly pleasant quality about this brew, the aftertaste. It holds everything the beer itself should be; huckleberry goodness, creamy goodness, dry, short finish; no metal or soap. Won’t buy this again, will pour the rest of the beer down the drain.
3.712 ounce can from Hayduke. We had it together via facebook chat. This beer is quite hazy golden and a bit dingy. Just a little off white head lingers nicely. The aroma brings spices and camomile. The flavor is just off the charts different from any cream ale I have had. It has a lot of camomile flavors and what I guess is huckleberry. Whatever that is. As a cream ale this is really interesting.
3.1Well, for some strange reason I like fruit beers when summer comes, and had this in the fridge without drinking it. Now that it is cold, I decided to give it a try. Canned. Hazy amber color. Nose of berries, sweet, background of honey. Tastes dry, light flavor, modest fruit, especially on after taste. I know how hard it is to get really strong fruit aroma from fruit alone and the pressure to add some natural WONF flavoring to enhance the beer. It appears Laughing Dog did not go this route, as the flavor appears naturally fruit-derived to me. Many of the blueberry beers I’ve tried have been ruined by addition of fake flavoring. Not this one, it is quite nice.
2.412 oz can. 141130. (Shenandoah Hops) Staunton, VA.
Cloudy golden colour with a tiny off-white head.
The aroma is some berries and cookies.
The flavour is some sweetness, berries and malt. Thin.
3.812 oz can bought from LIfesource Natural Grocer in Salem.
$1.69
Have to say this is the most beautiful can for beer i have seen.
Pours a hazy yellow body with a large bubbly/frothy pure snow white head.
Very nice sweet berry/floral aromas..i could smell it as soon as i began to pour.slight biscuity malt. Invigorating.
Well balanced taste with the berries coming out in the end. Crackery/biscuit malts.
Great drinkable palate on a hot ,humid sweaty night this went down a treat.
Very very good fruit flavoured cream ale.
Will be getting a six for the weekend grill out.
4.2This type of beer isn’t my thing, but for what it is, it succeeds splendidly. Really nice cream ale base brew. The huckleberry flavor is very prominent, but not sweet. This is not one of those fruit-type beers where you have a sip and say "no more." For what it wants to be, it’s very very good.
3.1Some fruit added to Laughing Dog’s cream ale makes for a sweet drink, perfect for a hot summer’s day. Body from the cream ale is slick and velvety, huckleberries add a nice sweet touch to this drink.
3.1Pours a pinkish gold with a nice white head and good lacing. Aroma of sweet fruits, huckleberry and other fruity esthers. Taste is sweet fruits bit not overwhelming and some malts but not enough for a proper balance. Beer is more focused on being a beer and not sweet and fruity. Nice creamy mouthfeel.
2.8Aroma is huckleberry and strawberry. Taste is a sweet lifht maltiness that is net with a dry bitterness that isn’t anything special. Mostly a fruity take over. Body is a clear gold with a thin head that retains poorly.
3.4On tap. Golden color with a white top. Fruit berry nose. Taste is grains and berries.
2.9Pours with a nice foam cap that leaves a surprising amount of lacing. Fruit and grain aroma. Not very creamy but does have distinctly fruity undertones.
2.4big taste of blackberry brandy mingled in a wheat like farina tasting yeasty body. bit of tang perhaps a little turpentine like. the brew might seem better if colored like the berry it represents.
1.0Poured from 12oz bottle. Very interesting beer. Just al little overpowering with the berry flavor. Dial that back and this would be a decent summer ale.
--you've been Dubbed.
2.9Bottle at Roasthouse Pub. Pours clear dark gold with a small, fizzy white head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is huckleberry, Pils malt, earthy hops. Flavor is malt forward with moderate huckleberry notes, light hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation.
4.6Nice smooth beer. Very easy to drink with a smooth creamy palate. Slightly sweet but not overly so. Would go great after a meal with a desert instead of a desert wine. Great beer.
3.8Bottle. Nice aroma with the huckleberry. Refreshing flavor more like a pilsner then a ale. Clean finish.
1.2This is a pretty terrible beer. Definite huckleberry, not really creamy, mostly just and undrinkable lactic fruitiness. This score might be generous.
3.0Bottle from total wine sterling. Pours golden with a thin white head. Big blueberry notes on the nose. Fruity and slightly tart on the tongue. Finishes clean. Eh!
3.9Aroma really comes across as huckleberry and touch winey. Pours a golden color with a hint of red from the huckleberry. Sweet fruit flavor with a bit of malt backbone pretty tasty
3.2$2.15 bottle Bottle from Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Golden-tan with a small white head. Smells of strong berry - grape Kool-Aid? Tastes of berry, burnt malts, grape... cheap beer finish.
3.1Sweet smells of huckleberry and cream. Light white fizzy head and light orange body. Fizzy fruity huckleberry tastes. Fizzy and clean and refreshing on palate.
