Laughing Dog India Pale Ale

Laughing Dog India Pale Ale

A true Northwest I.P.A. well balanced with Pacific Northwest malts and a combination of Cluster, Cascade, Citra, and Simcoe hops to create a piney, citrus aroma and a well-balanced flavor.

3.3 Can. Pours a transparent golden with creamy off white head. Aroma and taste of initial bitterness, pine, and some citrus.
3.7 Orange with a white head. Aroma is powerful hops and nothing else. Pine and citrus with candied tropical fruits. Medium body. Comparatively, the flavor is a bit restrained in the hop arena but still a major player. Background malts show thru a little here, though. Clean, bitter. Good IPA.
3.6 12 oz can poured. Pours a golden orange color with a thin foam head. Sweet, juicy hops aroma. Interesting IPA here. Not an ordinary IPA by any means. Slightly thicker, oily body with a lot of citrus juice like flavor. A lot of hops thoughout with a barely funky citrus, piney finish. Overall I enjoyed this. Love the big hops. Good IPA.
3.4 10/21/14. Bottle. Solid IPA. Nothing out of the ordinary. Nice nose with a solid malt backbone. No over the top hop notes.
2.4 Miramar Beach, Fl - Chan’s Wine World - 12 oz can. Sparkling, medium copper colored pour, light off-white head. Aroma has somw overwrought too much crystal malt funkines, some wort. Flavor has that same out of balance date-like crystal malt funkiness, just a brief touch of citrus bitterness. Mouthfeel is too tangy and leaves a ad taste in your mouth. Have not been overly impressed with this brewer to date.
2.7 Bottle. Pours a hazed copper with a white head. Aroma is sweet, papery, and woody. The taste is mostly sweet and papery. The can isn’t that old, so I’m surprised it has staled so quickly. Medium carbonation.
3.3 Can. Hazy amber pour with a nice 1 finger head that fades away very slow and leaves great lacing. Aromas are candied apricot, caramel, oranges, and light pineapple. Tastes juicy and sweet, especially up front. Hint of bitterness in the finish. Apricot, oranges, and caramel mostly. Some cooked vegetable too. Medium body. Nice oily mouthfeel. Either this is old or it’s just not hopped enough. It’s like drinking oily, sugar juice.
3.2 Sample @ GABF 2014. Medium gold, with a white head. Dry, medium bodied, mid to high bitterness, balanced CO2. Hoppy, resiny taste, apricot, orange, caramel. Quite OK. (2014-10-03)
3.7 12 oz can, pours clear, almost no head. Aroma is mild citrus with some fruitiness and malt sweetness. Taste is very well balanced. Above average american IPA.
3.7 Golden with white head. Big tropical fruit pineapple citra hop aroma. Very nice malty mouthfeel with bit citrus hoppy flavors. Bitterness through the finish. Grapefruit and onion linger. Very enjoyable IPA.
3.5 355mL can, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of strong piney hops, vegetables, and crackery malt. Flavour brings out dry faded piney hops and biscuity malt. Very well-balanced, with a nicely crisp, dry piney finish. Very nice stuff.
3.2 Can from Hop and Hound, Bothell, WA; 6.2% ABV Hazy light amber color. Moderate hoppy aroma, with a grassy accent besides the piney hops. Dry mouthfeel, toffee flavor, a bit papery; strong bitterness and strong resiny hop character, but not as bright and fresh as it should be.
3.1 Can (12 oz). From tryonqc, thanks! Slightly hazy golden/amber with a medium mostly lasting off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is of caramel, spices, tropical fruits, alcohol notes and light citrus presence. Taste is moderately sweet and quite caramel forward with spices, pine, alcohol citrus and light bitterness. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Slightly oily mouthfeel. Moderately dry finish. Light lingering spiciness. Lack of balance. Too caramel forward. When it’s written in big letters "Cascade", Citra", "Simcoe" on the can I think it’s not unreasonable to expect some hops. Disappointing.
3.3 12 oz can. Pours bright gold and a bit hazy. Medium head. Fresh piney hops. Taste is the same with some lemony citric flavors. Not much of a balance here-mostly just a hop bomb. Decent.
3.5 Can. Pours a hazy copper color with a moderate white head on there. Nose is definitely hoppy, with some floral and grassy bits coming through for me. Taste is nicely light and bitter, but with a maltier backbone that I expected, and some nice toasting coming through. Decent brew.
3.5 Can from a trade with Darrel. Thanks! Pours a golden orange with a thick white head and great spider lacing throughout. Aroma is pungent and slightly dank with pine, resin, and fresh cut grasses. The taste is also pungent and dank with fresh pine, weeds, grasses and pasture. Mostly light body and somewhat of a dry finish.
4.0 Laughing Dog India Pale Ale has a very thick, off-white head, a mostly clear, golden appearance, with tiny white specs suspended throughout, a few lazy ascending bubbles, and fairly heavy lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet malts and piney hops. Taste is of the same, with an overriding sugariness, and there is an underlying hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy and slick, and Laughing Dog India Pale Ale finishes semi-dry and easily drinkable. No alcohol shows up with this beer. I suggest checking this out. RJT
3.4 On tap. Clear golden with a white top. Nose is sweet and earthy. Taste is herbal grassiness.
3.5 Can pour. Somewhat cloudy orangish yellow with white head. Aroma of sweet citrus hops. Creamy smooth with the right amount of malt. Was expecting more with the type of hops but does leave a slight lingering bitterness to chew on.
3.2 Great IPA from Sandpoint, Idaho. A must try! Great aroma and hoppy flavor!!!!!
3.2 Pale body. Cheese and strawberry aroma. A touch of bitterness but pretty subdued IPA
3.2 Fresh can. Pours clear orange/gold with no head. Aroma is grass, hay, some floral/citrus, more grapefruit than others. Malt comes through here heavily...overly sweet but the hop/resin/pine tones are good.
3.9 12 oz can. Pours a nice golden amber with little head. Great malty flavor with a balanced hop load. Not too bitter with a medium palate. Great drinking IPA!
3.5 Nice mild IPA, hops not overdone. A little it of tang and bitterness in this amber bodied beer. Minimal soapy head, malt and hops blend well in the aroma, hops come forward in the taste. Bitter lingers on the tongue.
3.3 12oz can thanks to boisebeerguy, thanks! Pours a clear light copper with a thin white head and spotty lacing, aroma is pretty dank with quite a bit of citrus and tropical fruit, the flavor has a sharp hop front end with a sweet but hoppy finish at the same time, pretty sticky and thick, bitterness in the finish isn’t completely balanced and I would have liked to see a little more citrus and tropical fruit flavors instead of just straight bitter.
3.8 Rating #922 - January 17, 2014 - 6pack of 341ml Bottles from Sobeys. Aroma is grassy, lemon, pine, pepper. Clear golden pour with a fluffy white head, decent retention. Medium carbonation, mild alcohol warmth. Smooth mouthfeel, lots of grassy, spicy hops on the palate but very well balanced, citrusy sweetness of grapefruit meets a sharp dry-hop bitterness. Solid IPA.
4.8 Served in a pint glass from a 12 oz. bottle. Very tasty India Pale! Poured hazy golden with about a 2 finger of off white creamy head. Lots of carbonation bubbles coming from the bottom. The smell was instant pine and citrus...very hop forward on the nose. Taste was floral, citrus and bitter hops up front soon followed by a mild malt sweetness. Lots of oily hop resin and stickiness on the palate. Overall I would say this was a fantastic representation of a well crafted IPA. Great offering from Laughing Dog...will definitely buy this again!
3.0 Fresh can poured into a nonic pint. Pours pretty clean gold with a slight white head with thick lacing. cat pee, citrus and pine aroma. taste is sticky sweet, sugar, pine, orange. not great, but serviceable.
3.4 Picked this 12oz can at the COOP a couple days ago.. Pours with a decent white head that shows okay lacing atop a clear golden brew. Nose is nicely hopped... tropical fruitiness and onion/garlic.. weird combination but the allium notes are not overblown. Good hoppy bitterness that is balanced barely by a decent amount of residual pale maltiness... Not a big fan of the onion/garlic hops but they work in this stretch and aren’t overdone. Body is light/medium... carbonation could be a touch higher IMO.
3.7 Draft to 8oz glass Sweet, flowery, and overflowing with tropical fruit aroma. Clear amber with a thin creamy head. Sweet fruity taste with a nice bitter finish.
