Le Bilboquet MacKroken Flower

Le Bilboquet MacKroken Flower

This one is different than the Bieropholie version as it has a different yeast and hops. It has also some difference through the fermentation process. The malts and the honey are not exactly the same. And, of course, this one has less alcohol. They have the same type of aromas, but some esters are really not the same.

4.1 Very nice, balanced scotch with mix of malts, caramel, bit bubble gum. Moderate sweet with moderate bitterness. Well balanced
4.0 Pours dark dark brown with white head. Toffee on the nose. Tastes like barley wine, sweet with toffee notes.
4.0 On tap. Dark amber colour, pretty frothy beige head, decent lacing. Aroma is lots of raisin and figs. Alcohol well hidden. Heavy sweetness, not bitter, but it's not cloying. Soft carbonation gives a pleasant mouthfeel, does not feel too heavy. Very good.
3.8 500ml bottle. Pours an unclear deep red-brown with a medium, frothy, long lasting, tan head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, honey, dried fruit and light roast. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, honey, dried fruit, dark chocolate and spice with warming alcohol in a dry, mildly bitter finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. A very nice Scotch Ale.
3.9 Clear, dark amber to brown colored, medium beige frothy head, nice lacing. Aroma is mostly malty and caramel, some candy notes, dried fruits, some honey, light herbal notes. Taste is is quite malty, very sweet caramel and caramelized sugar, toffee, dried fruits, honey, bit toast, raisins, light herbal notes, medium bitterness, sweet finish, almost no alcohol noticeable. Medium to full bodied, soft carbonation, sticky. I would never say this is a 10.8% but a bit too sweet for me. (bottle)
3.4 Draught @ Zeezicht, Breda. Nice dark red to red-brown color with a full sized beige head that lasts for quite a long time. Aroma is malts, quite some red fruit influence. Taste malts, sweetish, dark forest fruit, blueberry sweet mixed with dark malts. Medium body, quite soft carbonation. Hmm weird combo.
4.4 On tap at hopaholic. Deep brown colour small lightbrown head. Nose is intense honey, malty. Taste is low roastedness, intense honey. Smooth mouthfeel well hidden alcohol. Jummy.
3.9 On tap at catraio, Porto. Dark red brown black. Medium beige head. Taste is medium bitter, light sweet. Body is medium and super smooth. Aroma and flavour is chestnuts, chocolate, cacao, alcohol, chili, vanilla, fruity.

4.1 Dark brown colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have lots of sweet, nutty, caramel malts.
3.8 From my brother for my wedding gift: pours brown with a beige head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, fruitiness, some earthiness, and hoppiness. Taste is sweet but not too sweet. Light bitterness. Booze is present but well covered in a sense. Large body. Gets you a bit crunk. I like it.
4.4 Probably my favorite Scotch Ale so far. As soon as you open the bottle, you get the nice and sweet aromas of honey, caramel and a light scent of maple syrup. The color is of an opaque dark brown, lightly syrupy. It’s very rond to the palate, even if the alcohol is strong. The taste is delicious. A mix of salted caramel, nuts, maple syrup and a nice touch of honey. The MacKroken Flower is a bit heavy, but it’s very enjoyable when the weather is cold. I highly recommend it. Enjoy
3.8 Bottle from Saveur Biere. Clear dark reddish brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dried fruit, honey and spicy. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet and moderate bitter finish with lots of warming alcohol. 311016
3.8 Bottle. Clear dark amber body, small beige head with average retention. Sweet, malty aroma: toffee, honey, molasses, figs, dried berries. Taste is subtle and complex: honey, caramel, licorice, hints of leather and herbs. Very nicely done.
3.6 500ml bottle. Hazy, mahogany coliur with small to average, thick, creamy, fairly lasting and lacing, sulphureous beige head. Sweet-ish, malty aroma, notes of caramel, toffee, rock sugar, treacle, candied almond. Taste is sweet malty, nuttily, notes of caramel, malt lozenge, toffee, rock sugar, treacle, molasses, candied almond; bitter hoppy interludes; warming alcoholic finish. Oily, viscous texture, slightly sticky palate. Very sweet, but not in an unpleasant way.
3.6 Shared bottle. Hazy brown pour with tan head. Caramel malt in the nose, some nuts, hops. Tasted like a nutty and hoppy scotch ale, good body.
3.4 Notes of flower, honey, and rich caramel malts. Deep hazy brown with no head. Rich caramel malt flavors. Full bodied but fairly flat.
3.5 On tap at BBF. Brown colour with beige head. Malt and caramel and yeast taste. Sweet, caramel, yeast, metalic taste. Medium to full body.
3.6 Tap / Tirador. @ Irreale, Madrid, España. A: Brown / Marron. T/S: Malt, caramel, honey / Malta, caramelo, miel.
3.5 On Tap. @V Barcelona Beer Festival.
3.8 Draught at Bilboquet. Rich dark malt, honey, toasted bread, scotch, nuts, gentle sweet finish. Very solid brew with little trace of alcohol, would recommend hunting the barrel-aged version though.
3.0 Poured from a bottle. Light brown color, medium off white head. Medium sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a sweet malt and honey flavor with a alcoholic finish.
3.5 500ml bottle. Dark reddish brown with a foamy beige head. Flavors are brown sugar, honey, caramel, molasses, dark fruits and chocolate with floral notes. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, syrupy texture.
4.0 Thick, rich and decadent - this is a beast of a Scotch Ale (actually an imperial, if that is an actual category. Pumping up the alcohol and ingredient list has made this into a Canadian classic. A backbone of very roasty malt supports a super rich taste profile. Thick toffee, dark berries, booze, butter and a hint of chocolate are brought into an extravagant but successful balance. Taste sustains and stays in balance. Not for everyone, but quite an accomplishment!
Excellente !
3.2 Appearance: clear deep amber with one finger of loose tan head diminishing gradually to a thin skim, moderate lacing. (4/5) Aroma: honey, floral, toffee and butterscotch, molasses, boozy dark fruit. (6/10) Taste: moderately strong sweet, very mild bitter. (6/10) Palate: medium to full body, moderate carbonation, sweet warming finish. (3/5) I continue to be unimpressed by the style in general, but this isn’t a bad one, as it goes. It’s a big boozy beast, which of course warms me up to it (no pun intended). Worth trying if you happen across one. (13/20)
