Leavenworth Boulder Bend Dunkelweizen

Leavenworth Boulder Bend Dunkelweizen

Formerly known as Blind Pig Dunkel Weizen

This is a medium-bodied, unfiltered dark wheat beer with a smooth, gently sweet character. The flavor has notes of chocolate and caramel combined with the cereal malt flavor contributed by malted wheat. Blind Pig is a very unique beer with few other examples of the German Dunkel Weizen style brewed in the Northwest, and certainly none as tasty. 3.5 Very drinkable and pretty well rounded. Some hints of nut with light roast. Pours black with OK head and lacing. Light bitter finish. Bottle.
3.2 Total Wine, Fairfax twelve ounce: Pours dark brown with a greyish head. Aroma is light chocolate, yeast, some roast, and slight fruitiness. It is not a bad dunkeweizen... Pretty light. Not bad.
2.7 Serving: from tap at Fish Tale Brew Pub. Aroma: light malt. Appearance: no head with no lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Clear, cola-brown body. Taste: lightly sour initial flavor and lightly sour, roasty finish with short duration. Palate: light bodied with watery texture and lively carbonation. Overall: nothing special.
2.9 this was a random pickup in Seattle when the mood for a dark wheat hit, but it was average in just about every possible way. the only thing that stood out a little was the slight tobacco aspect in the flavor, which was cool. a little too light and simple otherwise."
2.8 Draught at the brewpub in Everett Muddy brown color. Also the aroma and flavor are muddy, the wheat is not well defined, and there is a distinct character of stale water; very light banana aroma, mild spicy flavor; ordinary bitterness. Messy.
2.5 Rated from notes taken 7 Aug 2011 -- A marginal Dunkel, flavor was there, but watery. Would much prefer a more assertive profile.
3.0 Pours a half finger of head on a dark brown, almost black body. The aroma has some chocolate malt, and some burnt malt. The taste starts with burnt malt, and dies out with some chocolate and mild sweet note. Short but good profile. The texture is crisper with soft edges. It tastes more like a black lager than a dunkelweizen. Either way it’s not bad.
3.4 Draft at Olympia brewpub. Pours dark brown with ruby highlights and white head. Cherry, caramel, chocolate. Wheat. No cloves or banana. Taste: moderately sweet, malt-forward. Not a lo of depth, but nice. Roasty, pleasant, with medium body and a slick oily texture.
3.1 Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a weizen glass. Pours opaque dark brown with medium brown highlights with small beige head. Aroma is chocolate, medium body, medium carbonation, and some medium bubble lacing. Taste is chocolate and herbal hops. Hop forward for a dunkleweizen, not my thing.
3.5 Draft pour. Pours dark with a nice nutty, malty aroma. A little caramel flavor. Sweet malt finish. Pretty good beer.
1.0 I did not care for this. Not my style of beer. Very toasty tasting. Nice color for the beer
3.0 A nice dunkelweizen. Goes from malty sweetness with nut-like aromas to a mild citric ending. Refreshing and highly drinkable.
3.6 pleasant smooth malty brew with a bit of sweetness and a hint of butterscotch to balance that smoothness.
3.3 Slightly roasty malt with caramel and toast, perhaps a hint of coffee. A dark long finish with a bit of char. Hops are very light.
2.3 Bottle from Ashur Liquor: Created a tiny sizing of film for a head while the liquid was a dark glowing tea hue that was full of sediment that made it impossible to see through my pint glass. In the nose, there isn’t much going on other than a minimum amount of caramel malt while at the same time not even smelling like a beer. The flavor is boring and bland with no flavors at all worth mentioning but at least it was still drinkable.
3.1 Pours dark brown with a smallish head. Nice roasted malt aroma with chocolate notes. Solid Dunkel Weizen.
1.9 Pours dark amber with sediment, finger owhite head Smell roasted malt, bit of sweetness Taste coco and roast, no real hef flavors Light body Sub par
3.5 Bottled 11/2010 Poured to NB globe. A: Pours a chocolate beer with little head development. Thin film of tiny bubbles, which are light graham in color. S: Chocolate malts, dark grains. Hollow grainy. Little/no hop nose. Slightly creamy scent. T: Yum! I was surprised by the nice toastiness of this beer. I admittedly had low expectations, which likely fosters my admiration, but this beer is nice. Light cocoa, malts, milky flavor. Touch of a metallic finish on this. As I take more his off this, I like it less. Has a bit of a burnt flavor as it warms. Almost a sour flavor in here. M: Decent medium body with medium/low carbonation provides a effervescence I didn’t anticipate. Nice. D: Very drinkable. Again, I was surprised by this beer, and would be happy to recommend to others. Serving type: bottle 02-15-2011
3.1 Muddy dark brown. Chocolate is big. Med bodied and slight bitter hop. Slightly mild carbonation. Nice body throughout. Not as good as bayern dragon breath.
3.2 Bottle @ home, courtesy of some chill trader bro. Pours a fairly clear reddish black appearance with a brown head. Fairly roasted malty, nutty, light apple fruity, caramel, toffee aroma. Caramel, roasted pecan, toffee, a touch smoky, light fruity flavor that finishes a touch sweet. Ok.
2.1 Overall OK, but a bit of a vinegar after taste. Probably wouldn't buy in volume.
3.1 Pours a dark cloudy brown head, a medium beige head some light lacing. Aroma and taste is of dark lightly toasted caramel malt, yeast and some grain flavors. A medium body with light carbonation. Finish is lightly toasted caramel malt, yeast and grain. Aroma and taste seem a bit mild for the style, but still an ok drinking brew.
3.2 More bitter than I generally like my browns, kind of like a brown that wants to become a porter someday. Flavorful nonetheless. Light tan head. Rich dark color. Sweet and slightly bitter.
0.5 It was terrible. Just not my kind of beer. I hated every aspect of this beer. Very thick and foamy.
2.9 Dark brown caramel, nearly black, with off white head and lacing. Light aroma of...cinnamon donuts? Palate is light-bodied with mild nut and caramel flavors. Palate is a little watery.
2.8 Bottle. Pours a clear and very dark brown color with a moderate off-white head. Nose is quite malty with some caramel and toasty elements to it. Taste is light and smooth and slightly sweet and toasty, but not all that special. OK.
3.4 Bottle. Poured a very cloudy deep brown color with a thin tan head, minimal lacing. Taste of caramel, dough and cereal. Great carbonation, watery mouthfeel. Nice dunkel!
3.3 Caramel malt aroma. Fairly dark brown, more than I would expect. Flavors are very roasted, more so than I would want for this style. Not like a traditional dunkelweizen, and the estery clove, banana flavors are not noticeable at all. I would call this more an american dark wheat ale. Not bad nonetheless and has good malt presence.
3.1 Poured a cloudy brownish amber with an offwhite head and some floaties in it. Aroma is caramel, nuts, cereal, toast, and very faint coffee. Taste is caramel, sour, coffee, with a sweet and sour finish.
3.4 Not do bad. Quite weizen alike but not much flavour, just sweet aroma and some clove hints.
