Left Hand Bittersweet Imperial Coffee Milk Stout

Left Hand Bittersweet Imperial Coffee Milk Stout

This big stout get’s aggressive with a boost from Allegro Coffee’s Exotic Mocha Java Blend. The coffee’s dark cherry flavors and spicy undertones weave into the rich, milky sweet stout like a chocolate-covered espresso bean melting on your tongue. Bitter then sweet. Sweet then bitter. It’s Bittersweet.

3.6 Bottle into snifter. Pours pitch black. Big coffee on the nose and tongue. Slight chocolate and licorice taste as well. Overall not bad, palate too thin imo. Leaves me wanting more from it.
3.6 Bottle (Bittersweet Nitro). Earthy coffee, chocolate malt, and hay aroma. Black with moderate light tan head. Moderately sweet coffee, chocolate malt, and moderately bitter grass/fresh hay flavor. Minimal carbonation (as you would expect). Good body. Pretty good - on the sweet side.
4.5 Pours hard into a Nitro pint glass. Dark amber to black with tight bubbles that last. Aromas of coffee and chocolate and more coffee. Taste the same with a little sweetness from the malt. A little cherry flavor in the finish which leads to a little hop bitterness in the finish. Really nice stout. Not a lot of alcohol at all. Just a little heat as it warms. Very nice complex beer.
3.8 355ml bottle from the Beer Junction at Sofi’s. BB 2017-05-21. Pours an almost black with a tan head. Aroma is a cold coffee. Taste is smooth and quite sweet with coffee notes. Cold coffee slight bitter aftertaste. Quite pleasant and very drinkable (thx, nitro!).
3.8 Served in 12oz tulip glass at Beer Revolution in Edmonton pouring black in color with a finger of thick beige colored head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is chocolate and roasted grains with a hint of coffee. Taste is a roasted grain and coffee bitterness with a chocolate malty sweetness. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, a very well crafted brew that is balanced and tasty and hinds the alcohol well. Quite smooth and highly recommended.
3.6 Pretty black nitro pour with a tan cap. Nose is milk chocolate, light coffee, touch of metal and bitter malts. Smooth. No hint of 9%. Flavor is more creamy than coffee as well. Pleasant except for the light metal note and more bitter aftertaste than expected.
3.9 On tap. Pours black with full nitro head. Aromas of dry roasted malts and black coffee muted by nitro. Flavors of espresso, dry roasted malts, dark chocolate powder and a bit of ash. Slick and tasty dry Stout.
3.4 Sampled on draft this beer poured a black color with orange highlights and a huge foamy tan head that lingered forever and left excellent lacing. The aroma was sweetish and tangy with coffee and vanilla notes. The flavor was strong brewed coffee, vanilla and toasty malts. Long brewed coffee finish. medium body and smooth. Decent
3.7 On nitro tap at St. Augustine’s, pours a deep dark brown / near-black with a medium tan head. Aroma brings out lots of black roasted coffee upfront, with medium sweetness. Flavour is loaded with espresso beans upfront, followed by medium sweetness and some dark chocolate. Nicely balanced, with a creamy mouthfeel. Very nice bold coffee stout.
3.8 Kinda sweet but kinda bitter. Hey, it’s bittersweet, just like the label says! Chocolate, coffee, lactose. Not surprising but not surprisingly good.
4.2 Pretty good stuff. Not overly sweet, perfect amount of toastiness. Very easy drinking beer with only some booze at the end of the finish.
3.7 Creamy tan head in this black beer. Medium body that is silky smooth. Sweet malt profile with some light roasted notes and dry coffee grounds. A bit of hot booze. Brown sugar sweetness and coffee grounds in the finish with some alcohol. Pretty tasty. Nitro bottle.
3.8 Nitro bottle poured hard into tulip glass, opaque black color with smooth tan head. Aroma notes of coffee, chocolate, cream and malt roast sweetness. Taste adds more lactose, brown sugar, dark chocolate, vanilla and light dried fruitiness (leans raisins). Medium-heavy body, low carbonation, creamy, tad sticky with coffee roast finish. Solid imperial nitro stout, maybe leans a tad sweet at least.
3.8 Nitro version. Pretty good iced coffee style beer, chocolate, roast but a milky sweetness that worked well with the canned nitro.
3.7 Bottle, sampled in a glass, this beer was a dark brown in the glass and gave an off-white / light tan cover that was about a finger high, it left nice spots and fingers of lacing on the glass, the nose had aromas of roasted malt, coffee, lactose sweetness, some chocolate and nut, and a little caramel, the flavors were chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, a bit of caramel and nut, brown sugar sweetness and a little lactose, very faint licorice in the background, the finish had some roasted malt bitterness, the mouth feel was medium to full, it was creamy and smooth on the lips, the nitro carbonation was nice, this beer had a very good roasted malt nose and flavor, it was a nice blend of roasted malt, coffee and lactose.
3.9 Bottle: Ruby-black with a thin, creamy tan head. Roast coffee, smoky cherry, chocolate aroma. Creamy milk chocolate malt, malted milk balls, lightly bitter cherry malt taste. Solid, roasty coffee bean..... Very milky and slick finish....more sweet than bitter. Really nice.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a black color with khaki head. Coffee, cocoa, roasty, creamy aromas. Coffee, chocolate, roasty, burnt flavors. Slight boozy. A little strong and boozy, but a nice sipper.
3.3 Black, classic nitro, creamy head. Aroma is coffee, cherry wood dry, some chocolate, hints of sweetness and roast malts- not too much. Same in taste. Creamy, but flat (like all nitro). Kinda see the milk, lactose, coffee is not real big as the roast malts or it gets lost, doesn’t seem imperial because of the flatness. Its good wouldn’t really get again though. Not a nitro fan but wake up was nice. Little astringent, good. Not a big stout fan, but this isn’t on par to a good imperial coffee millk stout- say Stone or something. Not a nitro fan so take that with a grain of malts.
2.8 Draft. Clear maroon brown color, scant head. Chocolate aroma. Taste is sweet cocoa, light body, light character.
3.5 Smells like dark expensive coffee, milk chocolate, cream, and spice. Flat black color with a small off white head. Tastes chocolatey, coffee flavor is roasted but not bitter, creamy, with no booze burn. The palate is the Achilles heel of this beer. Thin, watery, does not coat the mouth at all. This was good, but I like my imperial stouts more substantial. Overall well done, just a bit weak.
3.7 Very dark beer, very small soapy head. Aroma is pretty complex, lactose, chocolate, coffee... can tell it is going to be sweet AND bitter. Tastes is pretty heavy on the cherry... some malt, some bitter coffee. Smooth for the ABV, just a little bitter. It is good.
3.8 Bomber from Wine Warehouse, $8.49 I believe. 10 hour work day with nonstop action... was going to not have beer today, but well, why would I do that? Pours black with a small tan head. Heavy sweet chocolate milk aroma... almost exactly like chocolate milk. Taste is sweet chocolates, bitter coffee beans, bitter chocolates, and hints of licorice. I think I made a good choice to not not drink beer today.
4.1 Bottle from Salt Horse, Edin. Pours pretty much black with dark brown edges. Thin, quickly dissipating head. Off off-white. Not much lacing. Meaty malts upfront on the aroma. Very earthy and ever-so-slightly smoky notes from the coffee. Wet wood. Spicy on the nose. A touch of liquorice. A herbal quality from the hops. Nice, but could do with more oomph to justify that ’Imperial’ tag! Taste of smooth melted milk chocolate. A very well integrated earthy hoppy bitterness flows nicely with the mellow yet still bitter coffee profile. An unctuous mouthfeel suits the rich sweetness on offer here, stopping it becoming too sickly. Nicely weighted mouthfeel and a complimentary carbonation. Bitter finish which combats it’s sweetness overall. Well played.
3.8 22 oz bottle at home. Pours dark brown to black in color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, a hint of lactose sweetness, roasty, moderate bitterness to the finish, pretty solid.
3.8 Bottle at Salt horse. Dark brown. Nose is very sweet, roast, sweet coffee, light booze. Tastes sweet coffee, milky, light roast, sticky sweet.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty coffee and milk chocolate aroma. Roasted malty coffee and chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty coffee and chocolate finish.
4.3 Flaska från SB. Smak och doft av kaffe, choklad, vanilj, rostad malt. Stor sötma, intensiva smaker, rund och len, viss krämighet, beska med smak av bitter mörk choklad och ljuvliga kaffetoner.
3.5 Dark brown/black. Aromas of sweet chocolate, dark roasted malt and coffee. Taste is what the beer says it is - bittersweet. Sweet milk chocolate, bitter coffe, roasted malt base. Bittersweet finish. A bit artificial tasting. Odd. Needs a revisit.
4.2 Flaska från SB. Söt chokladig IS med både söt chokladfudge och bittrare mörk choklad möter intensiv aromatiskt kaffe och kärlek uppstår. Kaffesmakerna imponerar särskilt. Riktigt gott.
