Left Hand Deep Cover Brown Ale

Left Hand Deep Cover Brown Ale

Deep Cover Brown Ale is brewed in the tradition of the brown ales commonly enjoyed in the U.K. Despite its reddish-brown color, it is light bodied and slightly sweet, making it a very drinkable and refreshing brew. Dark caramel malts lend this ale its rich color, while toasted and Munich malts provide just enough body to be truly enjoyable.

2.7 Big carbonation bite, a thin and watery middle, followed by a pleasant, slightly sweet caramel finish. No real hops to speak of.
2.8 An ok beer. The aroma is nice, sweet and malty, but the flavor falls flat. Not thick or bold enough, not enough malt flavor. They just need to kick it up a notch if they want to compete with Bell’s Best Brown.
3.5 Left Hand Brewing Company--Deep Cover Brown Ale--2006--12 oz. Bottle--4.40% ABV--20 IBU’s. (3.75 / 5.0) Brown Ale--Beer of the Month Club Selection October 2006. Mild head. Clear dark amber color. Mild hop light chocolate front. Tangy mild sweet fruit thin English session Brown Ale doughy toffee body. Easy refreshing mild hop spice end. Mild Amber/Brown. Sampled 1/11/2007.
2.8 Pours brownish amber with an off white head. Aroma is caramel and nuts. Flavor is lightly malty, grainy, bitter, slightly astringent finish.
2.7 bottle, pour very dark orange with a thick off white head, no lacing. Definite chocolate aroma, some bourbon as well, kind of reminds me of a faint GI bourbon county stout. Taste is smokey and chocolatey with slight alcohol mouthfeel. smooth palate for me, just like most browns. Very Very VERY average beer here.
2.7 12oz bottle. Pours a mostly clear, amber-orange colored body with a finger-width, frothy, tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is sweeter, hazelnut malts. A light cherry and some other fruits as well, but pretty weak overall. Flavor is slightly thin and watery up front. Nutty malts and a light cherry fruit mixture before this actually finishes with some flavor. Light, earthy bitterness and a toasty toffee make the finish somewhat enjoyable. Fairly dry with a medium length aftertaste. Overall, despite the enjoyable backend of this beer, there’s too much inconsistency throughout. Weak, nutty and malty aroma with a mostly thin, watery flavor. Eh...
2.9 Pours a light brown with little head. Very little taste and watery on the palate. Pretty disappointing
3.7 Bottle->honker: pours a white creamy, lasting head that exhibits good lacing atop a cloudy dark orange body. Aroma of root beer, sweet taste, medium body, astringent finish. Ok but not great.
2.6 355 mL.Shared with SpencerDB. Pours a hazy reddish amber with a thin, tan head that has little retention and no lacing. Aroma is sugary, malty, strawberry like a doppelbock. There is some strange wet dog/barn house/mustiness in there too. Taste is very weak: mostly seltzer water. Disappointing.
2.6 The best way I can recreate my experience with this beer is simply disappointment. The aroma is promising with hints of maple/molasses but the taste is just lacking. The beer lacks body, is watery, and has few hops. Dry finish. Not bad, but probably not going to buy another
3.0 pours amber brown with a medium lasting cap. light roast malt aroma, some sweet nuttiness flavour has caramel and maple syrup tones, more of the faint roasty tones and a very light bitterness in the finish as well. Body is a bit light though.
2.1 Bottle. Muddled Brown pour, little head. Generic Brown ale. Malty aroma, very thin. Aftertaste was not good. Pedestrian at best
2.7 Bottle. Pours hazelnut brown with small, tan, disappearing head. Nutty, malty nose. Caramel and malt flavors. Watery.
2.4 12 oz. bottle. Malty aroma with caramel. Pours red brown with off white head. Taste is slightly caramel sweet. Pretty watery. As far as brown ales go, not a favorite.
2.8 Serving: 12 oz. bottle. Appearance: Hazy deep brown with a foamy, tan head. The head is pretty small and is gone quickly. No lacing left behind. Aroma: Light nose. Slightly fruity with notes of nuts and light brown sugar. Taste: Leaning heavy on the brown sugar side with some caramel and a slight earthiness to it. No hop prescience and definitely on the watery side. Palate: Medium carbonation with a medium, slightly watery mouthfeel. Short finish. Overall: A simple brown that could benefit from greater body and depth. Not terrible but certainly not worth seeking out.
3.3 BPW #5 12 oz bottle at Shallos in Indy. Appearance is a nice brown hue with little head. Nose is coffee and chocolaty malts. Prune/raisin flavors with chocolate and coffee undertones. Moth is dry and airy. Overall a nice beer.
3.1 This was a purchase of six bottles from Corks and Kegs in Richmond. The brown ale poured a light brown yet clear when you hold the glass to a light. The head was smallish and disappeared. It is sweetish ale with mostly malt flavors and no hops. Nice finish but lacks body.
3.0 Dan’s Bachelor Party Extended Weekend Rating #3 of 90. Bottle at Shallo’s in Greenwood. Pours dirty brown, no head. Smell is mostly brown malts, toffee and prune. Flavors follow, goes down light and easy. Light palate, but enjoyable.
2.8 Bottle: as a brown ale, this is getting "out of the style." Pours dark brown with a rich arouma of chocolate and molasses, which I love. The taste falls short of the promising nose, though: molasses, pruney malts with a bitter, dry finish.
3.2 bottle 355 ml Appearance: amber brown with ruby hint , fine tanned creamy top , ring of lace. 4- Nose: soft , creamy aroma with milk chocolate. 6+ Flavor/Palate : Mild, soft bodied . fairly straight forward milk chocolate character. Some alcohol found at edges.
3.2 Bottle from Sun Devil. Pours like date juice with a trim off-white head. Smells and tastes predominantly of raspberry tea, brown sugar, hops, and faint cream. Fair, if not strange.
2.6 Aroma reminds me of English ESB’s, malty, nutty flavor with sweet caramel and chocolate undertones. Appearance is dark brown and nearly opaque. Flavor is mostly chocolate and caramel malts, little to no hop presence, perhaps some almonds. Palate is bubbly and creamy. Pretty mundane, but not bad.
3.1 Bottle. Pours brown, as the name implies, with a medium, of-white head. Aroma is malty and slightly nutty. Flavor is malty, and very sweet. Creamy mouthfeel. Not too bad, but better brown ales are out there.
2.7 Bottle. Pours a reddish-amber with almost no head, just a thin ring of foam. Aroma is malty and very sweet. Tastes pretty sweet and also very thin. A little watery. Kind of boring. Bottom line: Not a fan. Wouldn’t buy again.
3.2 Location: 12 oz bottle from Total Wine - Richmond, 7/21/09 Aroma: Caramel, roasted malt, nutty aroma Appearance: Brown color, thin tan/light brown head Flavor: Mostly malty, light hops, caramel malts really come out as it warms Palate: Light to medium in body, OK mouthfeel Overall Impression: As a lefty I like the brewery name, I haven’t necessarily been blown away by most of the beers I’ve tried from them, but they have been solid. This one is a decent example of the brown style, but it just doesn’t blow you away.
3.2 12 fl oz Bottle in Longmont, Colorado 10/10/2007 Some carbonation. Pale malt aroma. Amber coloured and hoppy with some dryness and bitterness in a fresh malt finish.
3.2 Pours a clear, medium brown with hints of red with a thin tan head. Aroma is nutty and roasty with some caramel malts. Tastes of caramel and roasted malts, vanilla, chocolate, toffee, and a bit nutty with a light hoppy finish. Not bad.
2.9 BOTTLE: reddish-brown pour, aroma of caramel, malt, and nuts. Thin body, but smooth, taste of caramel and light roast.
3.2 Deep Dark Roasted grains meet thick layers of caramel, malt and vanilla. Hop bitterness is the backdrop. Thin mouthfeel makes this beer more ordinary but I still believe this Brown Ale is underrated on this site.
2.8 Spare head, and spare lacing. Hazy appearance. Heavy malt & light hops flavors. Light body, and thin texture.
