Legend Golden IPA

Legend Golden IPA

Legend Golden ale is an IPA that is deep golden in color and not hopped as heavily as some other interpretations. This Legend cult classic has a full body and is very high in alcohol, at over 7% by volume. It is hopped with Mt. Hood for balance.

3.0 Bottle to snifter (thanks alexsdad06). Looks alright; a fairly transparent gold with thin white lacing and some small floating sediment. Smells of bitter hops with a slightly sweet backbone. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Ok, but forgettable.
3.3 Clear golden color, frothy white head. Lemon citrus, bread, hay, some interesting floral notes, and jello powder (I kid you not). Light, sweet, and crisp, with a little bitterness in the finish. Light-bodied, very small alcohol presence.
3.3 hoppy, citrus, flowery scent. Citrusy dry fruit and hops taste a little sweet in the finish. Crisp and carbonated on the palate.
3.8 Piney, floral, and citrusy hop aromas. Clear orange-gold with a moderately lasting, white head. Dry, bitter, and very balanced. Light-medium body, lively carbonation, and finishes with a long lingering bitterness.
2.8 12oz bottle pours a clear dark gold with some clumpy white head. Nose is fairly mild, dried citrus zest, pine, hay. Flavor is stronger, pithy, orange zest, lemon zest, dried pine needles, some malt, something a little medicinal. Full, zesty finish. Not quite all there.
3.5 Thanks to MaxwellDeus for my first Virginia beer! Aroma has some basic caramel/bready malts with light floral/spicy hop character. Appearance of copper with sticky white head. Flavor focuses more on the spicy hop character and is quite dried out; the finish is bracingly dry. Palate is medium, creamy and soft. Nice, solid traditional leaning IPA that is well-crafted.
2.8 From a bottle purchased in Virginia. Poured a light amber color with a whimpy white head. Nose is floral and citrus hops, but very mild. Not much aroma Medium body. Low carbonation. Flavor is floral hops with slight bitterness. Not a west coast IPA for sure.
2.7 Not a bad beer, could use a little more hop aroma and flavor. Have yet to try the Imperial and looking forward to it.
2.6 Bottle. Pours a clear golden color with a slight white head. Nose is somewhat bitter and hoppy, but in a slightly skunky way. Taste is quite bitter without any balance. A little off-putting, actually.
2.9 12oz bottle from Gail’s Hops and Grapes in Hickory. Yellow pour with a thin white head. Aroma is muted floral hops and caramel. Tastes are grain and light hops. Kinda bland - really surprised it’s 7% with so little going on. Not awful - but insipid.
2.9 12oz bottle, thanks to Andrew. Clear golden color. Minimal - to - little white head. Some lace. I don’t know what this is trying to do, but this just kind of tastes like an IPA that leans to the pale ale biscuity malty side. Lighter carbonation, dry finish. Kind of a pepper aspect to it. Light hay, kind of buttery. Mediocre.
1.1 Very disappointing pour: thin, watery, unappealing. Golden in a very translucent sort of way. On the bright side, the glass on the table won’t obstruct your view. Thankfully, the taste is a little better than the aroma, but not much.
1.5 Poured into a pint glass. 3.0 A: Clear light orange color. Two fingers of frothy white head. Retention is decent and just a little bit of lacing is left. 2.0 S: Not a lot of hops for an IPA. In fact, there’s barely any. There’s a light soapiness with a mild breadiness. Not much from the malts either. Nose just sucks. 1.5 T: Soap and bread. Mild bitterness. Not much hops and not much malts. The only thing that is there is ample amounts are the off flavors. Shitty. 2.5 M: Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Somehow this is a bit chewy. 1.5 D: God awful beer. Do not buy, do not drink, do not collect $200. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-07-2012 05:08:37
3.3 Bottle. Sour barley malt and light citrus hops aroma. Golden yellow with large head. Grainy barley malt and moderate bitter citrus peel/quinine finish. Pretty good - like the malt profile in this one.
3.0 Pour out of bomber, thanks to Caleb for the pour! Clear orange with white head, aroma has notes of sweet orange peel, grapefruit, caramel, biscuit, some slight earth and spice notes. Taste is sweet orange, caramel, toffee, and biscuit, touch of earth, finishing fairly sweet, slightly bitter.
3.1 Bottle pours a hazy golden with a tiny white top. Scent is grains and hops. Taste is honey and bready.
3.0 The aroma is hoppy with grass and mixed grains for malt. The appearance is deep gold with a small but foamy head. The taste is malty and not astringent. The palate is thin. Overall a nice beer.
2.6 Draft at brewpub. Pours light orange. Thinnest looking IPA I’ve seen so far. Not much on the nose. Taste is kind of thin. You have to really look for the hop. It’s just boring.
2.9 Bottle from Sam’s. Light hazy golden, small white lace. Nose is grainy, bready, light citrus and pine. Flavor is similar, more grainy than hoppy. Drinakble, but not very good.
2.9 This bottle has a unicorn on it...yeah, that should have been a warning right there. It kind of tastes like what I imagine unicorn pee filtered through hay might taste like. All in all not the worst beer I have had...but certainly not one I’ll be keeping in my stable
2.9 Bottle. Cloudy golden yellow color, massive off white head. Aroma of malt and straw. Taste is hay and lemon rind, lager-like finish.
2.6 12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Appearance is a crystal clear light gold with a fairly thick one finger head. Pretty good head retention and lacing. Not much of a smell with this one. Caramel malt is definitely present along with a slight citrus hop character reminiscent of apricot and orange. The flavors are all a bit odd. Fairly strong caramel malt up front along with some citrusy hop notes but then everything just disappears. All that is left is a sharp bitterness finishing with a strong alcohol note but no other flavors. Mouthfeel is decent, though. Overall I think this could be a pretty good beer with some tweaking. It is just too unbalanced now to be a pleasurable drinking experience.
3.3 Cask (gravity dispense) at Great British Beer Festival, day 4 on 5 August 2011 as Legend Golden IPA. Flowery aroma with lots of hop presence. Quite dry on the palate. Whilst the nose is appealing, it doesn’t quite carry through as impressively onto the palate. Fairly bitter, maybe a little astringent on the palate but lacks the vibrancy of the aroma. Firm, clean mouthfeel. Good but doesn’t quite hit the high spots.
2.9 It poured a golden color with a small white head. The aroma was of sweet popcorn and caramel malts. The taste was buttery, caramel, and toffee, with some lingering bitterness. An ok IPA.
2.9 Pours a pure golden with swaths of white sticky lacing. Aroma is fruit forward displaying grapefruit, orange, and some light berry. A nice biscuity backbone holds this brew together. It ends with a mild earthy hop finish, and a light malt sweetness that lingers on the tongue.
3.5 this beer has a hint of the IPA style but it’s not as strong as the others. I really think that its a good beer.
3.4 Cask gravity @GBBF 2011. Pours a golden color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty hoppy citrus and orange aroma. Fruity malty hoppy citrus flavor. Has a fruity malty hoppy bitter citrus finish.
3.5 5th August 2011 GBBF. Cask. Slightly hazy gold beer. Smooth low carbonation palate. Sweetish malt base with pale malt dominating and a little caramel. Good orangey hops, touch of mango. Moderate bitterness. Trace of aniseed. Finishes smooth. Not bad!
