Leinenkugel’s is pleased to bring back Leinenkugel’s Big Butt Doppelbock into its limited-release portfolio. The name "Big Butt" comes from the image of two goats butting heads that you see on the label. Bock means billy goat in German and Leinenkugel’s Big Butt Doppelbock’s name and label pokes fun at the goat’s springtime mating ritual. The result is a malty, rich, full-bodied bock beer brewed with two-and six-row pale and specialty malts and two specialty hops. Like all Leinie’s beers, Big Butt Doppelbock is handcrafted one batch at a time in our historic Chippewa Falls brewery.

3.6Bottle.
Appearance: Absolutely stunning beer. Clear deep mahogany/garnet hued body with a firm creamy head on top.
Aroma: Sweet caramel, toasted malts, hints of dark fruits. Strength is moderate. Damn good smelling beer.
Taste: Toast, dark fruits, and caramel are balanced nicely, mildly sweet. Tinge of cereal grains lingers on finish though, corn?
Palate: Light to medium bodied, moderately carbonated.
Overall: I think they used some adjuncts in this, similar lingering flavor I get from PBR for instance. Could be a damn good beer with a little more maltiness, little more body, and all malts.
2.4Oh my. Doppelbock? Now say it like the Donger.... Automobile? Yes this beer is kind of a 16 candle trainwreck. Chaos prevails in the watered down dunkel that is nearly dead when cold and barely alive when allowed to warm. I am afraid of the after affects.
2.9Deep amber pour with lasting head and clinging lace. Aroma is sweet toasty malt and little to no fruit no abv. Flavor is sweet malt, light dried fruit. A sourness and a medium bitter that has a staleness to it. Also slight oxidation. Medium bodied and a tad fizzy. Drinkable but not sure about doppelbock
3.2Bottle. Brown and amber in the glass. Thin fast head. Fine bubble front beaks to a tin sweet brown make. Finishes corny. Think I’m scared of the after effects.
2.6Originally rated on 7/30/08. Big butt pours a dark amber body, with a light tan head, and medium carbonation. Aroma is very light with hints of coffee and caramel. Mouthfeel is kinda watery, not very substancial. Flavor is rather light but chocolate and roasted malts are present, it also had a slight metallic twinge. Overall its too thin, but its not bad and it is drinkable.
3.2In a 12 oz bottle. A musty malty initial taste with a sweetness edge. A quick finish with no lingering taste.

2.9From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with an expiration date of May 02, 2016. Mahogany-red pour with a quick lasting off-white head. The nose features sweet malts, a yeasty quality, and a kind of fruit juice quality. Maybe closer to pear. The body is light to medium. The taste has a more fruity quality to it and less of a malty quality.
2.2Aroma is a fairly bland malt. Taste has hints of roasted malts, but no character. Overall not the greatest.
3.5Bordering on adjunct quality, this pours a nice amber with minimal head. While some malty tones come through in the nose, the flavor suffers from flat tones and cheapness in taste.
3.312oz bottle from the state store
Pours clear dark mahogany with a small beige head, light lacing. Aroma is bready, toasted malts and mild smokiness. Flavors of toasted malts, caramel, raisins and herbal spices
Decent
3.2Great looking beer, dark red.. fizzy head. Aroma of smoked malt. Taste is sweet malt. Not bad.
2.6One day I’ll just stop. A sad excuse for a great classic style. Thin and spritzer like with little depth to the sweet bready nose and flavor.
3.5Sampled on draft at Gateway Grill this beer poured a dark brown color with orange highlights and a medium sized foamy tan head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was sweet and malty with caramel and a bit of golden fruit. The flavor was toasty with honey, caramel and some golden fruit. Medium length finish. Medium body and fairly smooth.
3.2Bottle. Under a tall brown head that quickly diminishes is a reddish brown body. Smooth and slightly slick and oily. Full, a slightly caramelish, a tad vanilla sweet and slightly floral. Satisfying.
3.5Bottle. Pours clear dark ruby with very little head. Not much nose. A little caramel. Taste is watery. Caramel and toffee. Lots of carbonation. Strange chemical aftertaste.
3.1Best before May 5th. From their variety pack.
Pours a dark brown. .with reddish hues. Small off white head of foam.
Smells of caramel malt, hints of chocolate and molasses.
Tastes sweetish from the caramel, bits of grain, molasses and chocolate lightly done. I sense a peculiar fruity note that I got in the smell as I rechecked.
Body is good.
Pretty enjoyable beer this is.
3.1Bottle. Full of malty sweetness, but no real depth. Some hops profile, but not in balance. This Doppelbock is an easy drinker, but it isn’t something to search out.
3.412 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown, foamy tan head. Aroma was roasted, fruit and malts. Taste was toasted malts and fruit.
3.2Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance- The beer pours a dark brown-mahogany color with a one finger head of tan colored foam. The head has a lighter level of retention fading rather fast to leave a lighter level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is lighter overall and consists mainly of a caramel and molasses aroma. Along with these smells are some light bready smells as well as a hint of darker fruits of raisin and plum.
Taste – The taste begins with a malty taste that is mainly of a toasted bready taste. Along with this flavor are some sweeter tastes of caramel, molasses, and a light dark fruit taste. As the taste advances the malt fades a little bit with a bit more molasses and dark fruit, as well as a little bit of hay coming to the tongue. These tastes take the taste to the end to leave one with a moderately dark, sweet, and malty taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the thinner side for a doppelbock with a carbonation level that is medium. For the lower abv. of only 5.7 % the feel was decently appropriate, although for the style a thinner carbonation and thicker body would have accentuated the malt and sweet more nicely.
Overall – A decent brew overall. It has a malty and sweet taste of a doppel all while not being as potent as most. Still it lacked some depth of flavor and feel that a bigger doppel may contain (if done right). Not bad, but nothing superb either.
2.7I poured it from the bottle into a pint glass. It pours a brown color with a quickly dissipating beige head and some lacing. The aroma is caramel and chocolate. The taste is caramel, grassy hops, and some toffee. It’s carbonated and a bit thin. I thought this was decent enough.
3.1Deep chestnet brown with tan head. No decernable aroma but it is a little cold. Flavor is similar to other double bocks I have had but presents as a bit fake carmel similar to dos x amber. Not bad just not deep flavor i am looking for. A bit thin.
2.6Poured into a snifter.
2.5 A: Deep brown color. Two fingers of foamy tan head. Retention is below average and just a wisp or two of lacing is left.
3.5 S: Surprisingly roasty with chocolate. Dry overall, like a schwarzbier. Simple, but surprisingly adequate.
3.0 T: It also tastes like a schwarzbier. Dry roastiness, light neutral maltiness. Hints of chocolate and caramel. Not a lot of flavor overall though.
3.25 M: Light to lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Fairly smooth. Decent here.
3.25 D: It really isn’t too bad. Definitely better than most of the Leiny lineup.

2.9Red Amber color. Caramel malt aroma. Taste- caramel malt dominates. Pretty one dimensional. Some light grassy hops lend some balance. Pretty sweet. Caramel roll-ish. Decent.
3.1On tap. It poured a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was sweet and malty with dark fruits and some caramel. The taste was similar to the aroma with dark fruits and some chocolate. Not bad.
3.1Pours clear copper color, with a 2-finger bone-colored head. Mild aroma of caramel mixed with a biscuit note. Medium body, just a touch syrupy, with a dry finish. Flavor is nutty, with touches of caramel and citrus underneath. Biscuit note at the back.
3.1Pours a ruby brown; somewhat dark. Thin, off-white head that lingers a while. Nose is malty. Taste is a bit sweet and cola like. Medium body. Mild carbonation. Not bad.
3.3coffee, brown sugar & corn i smell, clear dark mahogany with thick khaki head. A light lemon atop the brown sugar and wheat bread flavors, sweet but not overly. Has a some weight in the mouth but still tingly..
3.3Malty, nutty, and sweet. Hints of cherry and citrus. Earthy, smooth, and drinkable. A bit too much fruitiness for the style, but not terrible overall.
2.512 FL OZ. ($9.99 6pack) not a very good beer at all. taste is like watered down dark beer. lots of smoke though. I would pass for this price.
3.4Bottle shared by Saturday Shirt. Consumed in a pint glass. Cherrywood in color. Aroma is kind of faint caramel and malt. Taste is mostly malty with hints of caramel and brown sugar. Smooth and easy to drink. Little bit of dark fruit and raisin at the end. Slight sourness. Decent beer for this style. I would recommend as a good option from a below average brewery.
