In 1906, the Kolsch-style beer originated from the Cologne region of Germany as a crisp and light beer to combat the summer heat. Leinenkugel’s® Canoe Paddler™ is our take on the Kolsch-style beer that we tweaked with a touch of rye. Our spring and summer seasonal has subtle malt flavors, a clean finish and adventurous quality. 3.2Doesn't claim to be anything more than a nice beer for a hot summer day and it fits that bill very nicely. Not something we would sit around and talk about because really there not much to say after you open the bottle, take a drink, and say to yourself, "Yup, that's a beer. I think I'll have another."
1.6great - wonderful - tasty - superb. a great beer that tastes great!!!!
smooth with a slight taste of hops (no overload of 175 lbs per bottle like most crap USA craftie garbage) that mixes well with the slight maltiness. No sharp hops edge, which is also appreciated. enjoyed every drop. wonderful brew from our friends in Chippewa Falls, thanks!
9/2019 update - still wonderful, great beer!!!
9/2023 - I have to lower rating to get it off my schedule. Cant get this in ATL, GA as all they allow to be sold are the local 150% hop brews that taste like sht.
3.0Cantering
2.3Agreed with many previous reviews. Its just bland and simple overall. for the price tag its not worth getting. leinies original is better. this is clean but that’s about it.
1.4Not good at all for me..............................................................
2.1Bottle pours clear golden with a small, fading white head. Aroma is bland, white bread, simple syrup, slight hay. Flavor is little but sweet pale malt. Light, crisp but meh city. Might as well have come from Meh-xico. This be gahhb
3.0pours a lightly cloudy straw gold with a decent medium white head. Pretty good head retention. Aroma of hay, grass, maybe a hint of spice. The taste is clean with just a hint of spiciness. I can taste the faint hints of rye. Quick finish. Clean and refreshing. I can pound quite a few of these on a hot summer day.
2.7Plain! Nothing offensive going on here but absolutely boring! Average pour, weak aroma, & bland taste which is pretty typical of the style. Not good!
2.5Pours a clear golden color with a white head. Light Aromas of hops. Light crisp taste with a clean finish. No lacing in the glass. Thin mouth feel. Not bad but nothing special.
3.8OMG this doesn’t taste like an IPA or Imperial Stout. Therefore it’s lacks flavor. Sometimes you drink a beer simply because it is crisp and refreshing. This is good for that.
2.6bottled - clear yellow in color. Light, crisp and refreshing but also nothing special. A good summer afternoon beer.
2.1Straw color with a diminished white head. Scents are muted, with some floral and flour scents. Some light honey and simple sugar aromas as well. Grain and pale malt start. A bit of bitterness and spice noted from the rye. A bit acidic/metallic. A lawn mower/canoe paddling brew at best. 2/13
2.9Clear, medium gold, thin white head. Malty but bright. Balanced tastes, a tiny bit heavy for a kolsch. Not picking up much spiciness from the rye. Good, but nothing that really stands out.
2.8Bland, per the style. Clear golden color. Modest head. Couldn’t pick up the rye. Not much hop contribution.
2.0Draft. Pours gold with thin off-white head. Grass and light bread flavors with a touch of spiciness.
1.5Pretty weak although I should be grateful that it’s not one of those awful beers that Leinie likes putting out these days, crappy fruit beers and shandies. Not much to offend here but not much flavor either.
2.5Only in America would rye malt be added to a Kolsch. Clear gold with lots of visual carbonation. Small white head the lingers around with a small bit of lacing. aroma of sweet malt and a little spice from the rye. Thin body that is on the sweet side. Refreshing finish.
2.1Thin, dry, crisp, bready, refreshing and uninteresting. This is a clean beer that is great on a scorching hot day. It has a bit of spice from the rye but not much else to speak of.
1.9Scanned my Oktoberfest and this beer came up...ive had it before though and it is my least favorite by them.
2.412oz bottle to tulip. Pours clear gold, white foam head. Aroma of green apple, honey, lemon, corn, grain. Taste of same with sweet rye bread and a lot of sour green apple.. If I made this at home, I’d be disappointed. Haha
2.2From a mixed 12. Has this sort of corny green apple nose that reminds me of the one shitty batch of homebrew I made. Took me an hour to dump all those bottles down the drain when I left Seattle after aging them for 4 years in my closet. Thankfully there are only 2 more bottles of this.
2.4Bottle, Ann Arbor, MI. Pale gold. Very thin head. Visible carbonation. Very faint milky citrus aroma. Weak flavour of citrus and white pepper.
2.5Pours light straw color no head. Aromas grass, toffee, slight banana ester. Flavors light straw, light toffee, slight grass, slight spice. Light to medium sweet. Kinda boring.
2.5Pours a golden yellow/amber. Aromas of lemon, grains, celery. Flavor is crisp, dry, sweet malt, and a mild hop.
3.712 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 6/20/2016. Pours fairly crystal clear pale golden yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, spicy rye, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of bready/rye malt and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, spicy rye, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of cracker, biscuit, spicy rye, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice robustness and balance of bready/rye malt and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from carbonation and bitterness as well. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5%. Overall this is a nice Kolsch style. All around good robustness and balance of bready/rye malt and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
3.9Now I liked this one, but I’m a fan of the rye’s. Lots of good malty rye flavors here would recommend.
2.9Where and how: bottle, tasting
Aroma: medium intense, with higher pitch. Malty sweetness with herbal hops. ..not most refined.
Appearance :
Top: mid sized, white cap. Some lace shown.
Base: clear, gold
Palate : soft, medium bodied. Easy going with its lighter carbonation. Sadly, fades quickly.
Taste: softer walls, clean with softer mid. Lacking crispness, is it rye?
other notes clean, refreshing brew but lacking a bit of crisp lagery vibe that Kolsch has.
2.912 oz bottle: Aroma has got a lightly malt notes with a bready texture. Appearance is a clear golden with a white head that diminishes quickly. Taste has got a lightly grassy hops with a bready malt texture but very drinkable. Overall, decent stuff but nothing special. Cheers!
2.2At my company party: pours golden with white head. Weak aroma. Easy drinking. Ever so slightly sweet. What rye? Plus if you got rue doesn’t it make it not a kolsch? Oh well. This jawn was meh.
3.6Bottle. Golden in color. Malt and Cereal grain aroma. This beer taste like Fruity Pebbles. And that pretty much sums it up.
