Lervig Brewers Reserve Oat IPA

Lervig Brewers Reserve Oat IPA

Lervig’s Brewer first made this oat IPA as a "hoppy birthday gift" for himself on his 40th. In this version the 25% oats build a full body. The Nelson Sauvin and Hallertau Blanc hops add their wine/grape flavours. The result is an intense grapey grapefruit flavor.

Abgelaufene (17.03.) Flasche von BEYOND BEER HH. 1,60€. Nice!!!
4.0 On tap at hopaholic. Hazy yellow colour small white head. Nose is citrussy sourness. Mouthwatering. Taste is low bitterness, low sourness. Hoppy notes. Good, but not as good as the nose suggest.
3.1 330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.2%. Hazy straw colour, moderate white head. Moderate aroma of hops with white wine notes. Slightly sweet flavour, hoppy with notes of white grapes first, grapefruit and resin in the bitter finish.
3.3 Bottle from Gonzo, April 2016. Clouded orange with a narrow white head. Intriguing well-wrung hop aroma with orange cordial, lime sharpness and a hanfbier leafiness. Something like orange liqueur infused Madeira cake with a spiritous splash of heat, uncomplicated rasp of bitterness, honey and peach syrup dominated by non-specific citric bitter hop. No oats. Boiled sweet and peachy US elements emerging. A stewed nettle-like freshness. Decent but not sure what the oats bring to the party.
3.7 330ml bottle from Beer Gonzo. Cloudy amber brown, not much head, lot of sediment. Boiled sweet hop aroma. Grain resin grapefruit flavour. Bitter sweet aftertaste. Interesting different big flavoured IPA.
3.3 Bottle from Beer Gonzo. Murky amber with yeast chunks gathering beneath a thin off-white head. Lively carbonation. Aroma of grass, lemon and white wine. Flavour of lemon meringue pie and lime pith with a biting, hoppy finish. Medium body with a smooth, foamy mouthfeel. Light fizz. Quite harsh and disjointed.

3.5 Borefts Beer Festival 7th edition day 1 25/09/2016. A light straw coloured pour with a halo of white head. Aroma is light floral and pollen hops, light lemon citrus. Flavour is composed of light fresh grains. lemon citrus hop, floral hop, Firm bitterness.
2.9 Tiny white head. The beer is gold yellow, light orange. It smells pretty orange peels and also lactic (wondering if it’s what the brewer was seeking). This lactic smell erase all the delicacy of the wonderful hops which where put in it. But in mouth, it taste much less bad than it smells. Orange dominates, but you can find the discrete notes of the Nelson Sauvin (did not find the Hallertau to be honest), and the lactic is much less present. Not a bad beer, but I guess it did not appreciate the travel. Too bad !
3.5 Draught @ Kuja. Rated on 23.11.2016 Aroma has bretta tones and fruits. Flavour has minerals, some bretta tones and some fruits. Feels dry-ish. I wonder if the bretta is intentional here?

3.6 Bottle that dad picked up from Buxton Tap (a few months back, I was with him) shared with dad, cheers dad!, Rawson Green, Kilburn, Derbyshire, Saturday 10th September 2016 in the company of Dad and Pauline Pours gold in colour with a hazy appearance and a white head. The Nelson Sauvin wins out on the aroma, grapefruit wafts, it’s got a pithy edge also both in the mouth and on the nose. Really fruity, I get the oatinness as well which adds some body, juicy and with a light tropical edge. Very good beer. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6
