4.0 Keg at Indy Man Beer Con. A black colour with a thin tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate, molasses, some vanilla, slight roasted malts, coffee and praline. Taste of milk chocolate, molasses, some vanilla, roasted malts, coffee, slight praline, unami, a hint of soy sauce and subtle liquorice. Full bodied and soft carbonation. A sweetish, milk chocolate and praline finish. More chocolate praline stout than coffee, however it’s still beautifully made and even though it’s on the sweeter side, all flavours harmonise well.
4.0 Backlog from SBF18. Black with tan head. Roasted malt, dark sugars, smooth milk chocolate with a light alcohol burn
3.7 Super strong milk stout flavoured with cocoa nibs and vanilla, created in 2016 at Lervig, one of Europe’s top stout brewers (and top craft brewers in general), with the assistance of Hoppin Frog’s Fred Karm, also experienced in creating big, flavourful, sweet imperial stouts. Thanks to Luís for sharing the bottle. Pale yellowish beige, irregular, large-bubbled and quickly opening head, blackish robe but still with about half an inch of translucent hazy burgundy at its sides. Aroma strongly reminiscent of ‘koetjesreep’ and Ersatz chocolate, chocolate milk even (‘Cécémel’), notes of fig compote, Liège pear syrup, some ‘blood’-like iron, caramel sauce, hint of wet dog but the vanilla has clearly faded by now. Very sweet onset, fig jam, pear syrup and candied dates, soft carb, very creamy (lactose!) and oily body with a middle phase again dominated by an Ersatz chocolate and chocolate milk main flavour, very caramelly as well with a very thin metallic edge; warming finish with rum-like alcohol effect (rather than Martini or any other vermouth actually), medium roasted bitterish factor, very light peppery note more from alcohol than anything else, but above all, it’s that Ersatz chocolate and caramel sauce sweetness that keeps dominating, even to the point where it becomes a bit sticky. A pimped and super strong milk stout with added flavourings – thereby effectively creating a pastry stout of sorts, bound to be successful in this day and age. Hype aside, this is indeed a rich and interesting, utterly ‘desserty’ brew, yet a bit too sweet and sticky for me personally, I preferred the barrel aged edition over this one even if that is probably not a fair comparison.
4.4 Bottle at home. Pitch black, quickly disappearing beige head. Big sweet but balanced notes in the nose and taste with honey, vanilla, maple, butterscotch, mocha and praline/liquorbonbon roasted malts, alcohol is well hidden. Aftertaste lingers but lacks depth. Mouthfeel is smooth but lacks some stickiness/oiliness to really add to the body, low-medium carbonation.
4.1 Paired with dessert st Mikkeller Bangkok. Rich cocoa. A really nice imperial stout.
4.0 On tap at Håndverksølfestivalen 2017. Close to black in the glass, topped by a nice, lasting, tan head leaving curtains. The aroma is of the complex kind, with caramel, roasted malts, dark chocolate, alcohol, some coffee and hints of soy sauce, burnt malts and dark bread. It’s sweet and full-bodied, with a suitable carbonation level. A nice hoppy bitterness deals with the sweetness. Roasted malts, caramel, dark chocolate and warming alcohol in the flavor, with the alcohol warmth far from extreme. Some coffee, soy sauce and a burnt touch too. Lasting and lasting finish. A really delicious one, from two of the dark, heavy beer master brewers. 170610
3.5 Color dark brown with small head. Aroma toffee, caramel, some chocolate, malt. Taste caramel, sweet, malt, some chocolate, alcohol.
3.7 How: Bottle. Where: Systembolaget. Appearance: Black colour with a beige head. Aroma: Chocolate, spices, some alcohol, malt, vanilla. Body: Full body, low carbonation. Flavour: Chocolate, malt, spices, vanilla, sweet.
4.3 Released at Systembolaget, Sweden October 6, 2017. This beer has been resting in my beercellar for almost nine months. The beer pours pitch black with avery thin beigebrown head. Almost no lacing stays on the glass. Nose: Fudge, caramel, milk chocolate, honey, coocies, raspberry, dirt, banana and vanilla. Taste: Oh so sweet! ...and I love it! Chocolate, vanilla, honey, brown sugar, a little bit of coffee, lactose and wood. Mouth: Full body and almost no carbonation. Smooth and sweet. Creamy, silky smooth, tasty and very well hidden ABV! This is a GREAT stout!
Sabores a cacao incluso algo lactosa.
Mycket gott.
4.8 Very good beer, but a little one-dimensional. Great aroma and taste. Full body.
On tap en @labirratorium.
4.8 From Zombier. In Teku glass. Watching Blade Runner 2049. Like a dessert, a cake, in an omnipollo-like fashion. With lots of chocolate, vanilla and cheese-cake. Abv very well hidden. Low on foam
4.2 Appearance: Darkest brown, near black. Tiny tan head. Aroma: Dark fruits, roasted, dark malt. Chocolate and coffee. Taste: Dark malt, heavily roasted, dark fruits, sweetness. Chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Very enjoyable. Bought: Craft Gallery (Bern), 330 ml, CHF 9.90 Info: 2/4-2018, BB: 30/3-2027
Botella de The Hop Locker,
3.9 Bottle, pours jet black with thin tan head that disappears quickly, aromas of chocolate, vanilla & honey, low carbonation, tastes of chocolate, vanilla, honey and sweet caramel, silky smooth but a little too sweet for me, pity, a little less sweetness and more carbonation could make this outstanding
Postgusto dulzón, a bourbon y chocolate.
Matige koolzuurprikkel.
2.5 330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 12%. Black colour, thin tan head. Strong aroma of chocolate, cocoa (too much), vanilla, marshmallows. Very sweet (way too much) and alcoholic flavour, with loads of cocoa and chocolate, also vanilla. Again way too much cocoa. Unbalanced. Not a beer for me.
4.3 This imperial got a perfect rich aroma, the flavor is vanilla, clove and whiskey. The balance is not perfect the after taste is a bit to alcoholic. However an excellent stout overall.
4.0 330 ml bottle. At the Drunken Monkey, Augsburg, Germany. Enjoyed on Mar 3 2018. Black color, frothy tan head. Roasted malt, sweetness, coffee, darkness, vanilla and cocoa in the aroma. The flavor is roasted malt, whIskey, sweetness, vanilla, cocoa and some some coffee. Balanced. Robust.
3.8 Bottle 33 cl. Black with a minimal light brown head. Strong aroma of honey, some coffee, chocolate dark caramel. Sweet with a warm honey and coffee end. Spes.
3.9 Flaska Systembolaget. Svartbrun vätska. Doft av chokladpudding, smörkola och lite honung. Samma i smak.
4.1 Thick, sweet, with coffee, smoke and vanilla. Low bitterness. Enjoy this and drink responsibly
3.8 Draft at Bru Craft. Oily black pour with brown foam. Darkly sweet chocolate liquorice. Molasses pie. Smooth vinyl coffee. Prune jellybeans. Glossy blackcurrant liquor. A mouthful of dark intrigue.
3.3 Bottle. Color: Black, no head. Taste: Dark roasted malt, boozy and hoppy hints and a lot of milk and dark chocolate. The strong chocolate taste is making this beer pretty sweet. Smooth, below average carbonation, above medium to full body. With this chocolate beer, for me it is just like those beers with chili in it: I love chocolate and I love beer, but strange enough the combination just does not work for me... It is even hard to drink the whole bottle.
