Lervig / Oud Beersel Black Acid

Lervig / Oud Beersel Black Acid

Doing what they do best, our friends at LERVIG brewed a stout specifically for this blend with our Oude Lambiek. After it had spent some months in Cognac barrels, they blended the Lambic in. This blend was then matured in Akevitt barrels.

3.9 Bottle carried over by my mate from Leiden. Beautiful tan, fine head on pitch black beer. Nose is acidic. Lemon, cacao, horse blanket, light coffee and cream. Flavor is mstly lambic with chocolate nites and a touch of roasted malt. Funky, acidic, lemon, grapefruit, old books, with some chocolate. Also notes of tobacco, lit, and some berries. Quite delicious and fun. The stout side is overwhelmed by the lambic, but I suppose that’s how it should be.
4.2 Bottle, at Håndverksølfestivalen 2017. A nice-looking beer, black, with a light tan head leaving some lacing. The aroma is of the funky kind, with some roasted malts, citrus and generic fruityness, as well as barnyard, horse blanket and leather. It’s full-bodied, nicely carbonated and dry on the palate, tart and puckering, with a light roasted flavor. Lots of funk in the flavor too, lasting for a long time. A vague metallic note shows up towards the very end, besides that it’s a wonderful beer. 170610
3.5 Uzupełnienie profilu na ratebeer. Brak dokładnych notatek. Połączenie ciekawe, warte spróbowania, lecz samo piwo nie wyrywa z butów.
3.6 W aromacie wyraźne bretty, kwaśne owoce, infekcja, w tle karmel i czekolada. W smaku zdecydowanie kwaśne, dużo ciemnych owoców, jeżyny, porzeczka, trochę ocet jabłkowy, na dalszym planie czekolada i kawa. Ciało na średnim poziomie, bretty wszystko zjadły. Ciekawe piwo.
3.5 Lervig / Oud Beersel Black Acid Sour/Wild Ale 747413 Lukt: Syrlige Kirsebær. Utseende: Sort. Skum/kullsyre: Tynt skum.
3.8 (bottle, 33cl) Mahogany colour with a short off-white foamy layer. Spicy dark malty, slightly roasted aroma with mildly funky sor-fruity notes of morellos. Mildly bitter and slightly sour flavour, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Dark malt character with roasty flavours, bread crusts and kummel-spice; lasting sour-tart and slightly roasty finish. Interesting brew. 08.II.18
2.8 Flaske fra Vinmonopolet Tromsø - Langnes. Drukket på Lillehøgda. Svart. 0 skum. Lett surølaroma. Smaken syrlig frukt. Uspennende.
3.1 Bottle from Bottlecraft, Hanley. Pours a deep reddish brown colour with a thin tan head. Aroma of blackberry, balsamic vinegar, some funk, slight dark berries, a little chocolate, a hint of wood, herbs, spice and subtle caraway. Taste of blackberry, dark berries, maybe cherry, some balsamic vinegar, slight funk, herbs, a hint of wood, spice, leather and subtle chocolate. Medium bodied and a slick texture. A drying and tannic, woody fruit finish. I wasn’t sure if this would work, there’s so much going on and it’s wuite unbalanced. Like the tart and fruity flavours but let down by the herbal tones. Not enough stout quality.
3.5 (Tap sample @ MBCC 2017 Red Session, Copenhagen) Pours dark brown to black with a small whitish head. Notes of several stripes of acid; balsamic vinegar, lactic and slightly citrusy notes, sour dark fruit, light solvent. These are matched with dark bread malt core, toast, wood, soft caramel, sweet plums, leather, light spirits. Rather watery on the whole, and thin in body, softly carbonated. Odd, not quite sure what it wants to be and not really coming together. I think Oud Beersel's oude lambiek is wonderfully balanced but for some reason this was not.
4.3 Bottle, pours black with an off white head. Very fruity aroma with elderberries, blueberries, light floral funk, vinegar. Taste has red wine, lots of berries, wood, vinegar, roast, cherries, spices. Fairly acidic, but not at all too much. Lovely stuff, works really well. On hindsight I should've bought more of this but I guess it's too late now.
2.9 29/I/18 - 33cl bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck (Vichte) @ home - BB: 3/IV/22, bottled: 3/IV/17 (2018-48) Thanks to ElManana+1 for sharing the bottle! Clear deep purple to brown beer, small irregular aery big bubbled head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: very fruity, lots of red wine, red wine vinegar as well, red liquorish, some tannins. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty sour, some tannins, little bitter, lots of alcohol, red wine vinegar, soft roast. Aftertaste: alcohol, acidic, lots of tannins, spicy, dry finish, some ginger bread, bit metallic. Not a big fan of this stuff. Has an unpleasant vinegar acidity to it, and lots of tannins which I don't really like...
4.5 Кран. Отличное пиво для любителей кислых сортов. Больше ламбик, просто черного цвета! Кислое с нотками горького шоколада и черного хлеба.
3.4 Dark purple/brown. Aroma is yeast funk, blueberry, black bread. Taste is sweet molasses with sour berries and nice sour finish. A bit harsh and metallic on the other hand. Not bad. Kinda interesting.
3.6 (bottle) dark ruby-brown colour with a frothy beige head. aroma of cherry pips, toasted malts and earth, slightly grassy, with some notes of mascarpone, cinnamon and brandy. flavour is more of the same, lots of earth and cherry pips, slightly metallic, with a hint of toasted malts, dark bread crusts and a heavily tannic medium-tart finish. medium- to heavy-bodied with soft carbonation.
3.9 Bottle. Tart/sour berry, bready roast. Medium full, creamy. Fairly spicy: cumin, oregano, leather, pralines, yuzu, toasted bread, berry retronasal.
4.0 Bottle. Dark brown color with soapy white head. Aroma is cherries, chocolate, berries, leathery, caraway, ethereal. Taste is chocolate, wood, leathery, tannic finish. Caraway in the aftertaste. Oily mouthfeel with low carbonation. Crazy combination, very unique - but it works!

4.2 330ml bottle. Pours dark, deep hazy purple-ish dark brown, thin ring of pale tan head. Aroma is sour wild funk, some dark berries. Taste is crisp, sharp with a good sour balsamic bite, woody wild funk, tart hedgerow berries and additional deep malt / dark chocolate layers. Interesting, complex, different and doesn't really slot into any definable categories. Good dark sour, reminiscent of New Belgium's collaboration with Clutch.
2.9 Tap. Aroma of tart roasted chocolate, light fruity tart black with tan head. Taste is moderate sour, roasted malt, roasted malt. Light malt, watery feel and sour finish
4.0 Bottle at crafters, hyvinkää. Dark reddish color, some head. Aroma has red wine notes, sour notes, some malts. Nice rich sour taste has red wine notes, some oak notes, some herbal notes.
3.7 C: Head limited to dark beige rim; jet-black beer. 4/5 N: Penetrating nose of lactic acid and acetone, woodstainer, balsamic vinegar. Also a vinous character, as from blue grapes on wine, going sour. 7/10 T: Wood, chocolate, old wine, again balsamico, solvent. Some liquorice, if without sweetness, burnt notes. Dark fruit on vinegar. Faint alcohol. 7/10 MF: Sharp, acidburn and -thinning, astringent, dry-out effect, but slick all the same. 4/5 O: Weird. Not a stout character, nor a lambic one. If anything, an over-the-top Oud Bruin 15/20
4.0 bottle. Small light brown head. Black color. Reallly complex aroma of red wine and dark fruits mixed with chocolate, coffee and nuts notes. In flavor chocolate and coffee notes are subtle and mostly there is domination of lambic notes with some dark fruits. Dry finish. Overall: Nice one. Maybe for me too much on lambic side but still great beer
3.8 09-09-17 // taster, draft. At Beavertown Extravaganza 2017, London. Lambic caracter with some citric and roasted malts Aroma.
