2.2 From my first trial of Lion Stout way back in the day, to the bottle I had last night, I consider it one of the world's classics. And then I found this. Fingers crossed! Looks the goods. Radiant, mid amber that shimmers. Head a solid mass of white that fades a fine lace. Into a snifter, chilled. Dusty, sodden cardboard and salty cracker nose. A spice of alcohol tickles. Vegetal otherwise, like over-boiled, salted cabbages. It is ROUGH on the palate. Harsh alcohol. Fusels!? Cardboard and burnt rubber phenols. Vegetal, drabby, bitter notes with little to no hop notes. Salty crackers with a lick of rust; take that back, a f%$ken lot of rust. It is acrid. It is hard to swallow. Light bodied yet a little viscous. Low in carbonation. I feel drunk and with a foul taste in my mouth. Hard to believe such a great Stout comes off this same bottling line. Burn!! (62,5cL, BB May 2019, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)
2.6 Bottle at the Curry Bowl, huge thanks Brian and Renato! Golden body, white head. Dry herbal-malty aroma with mild alcohol undertones. Unsurprisingly, a dry malty "tropical lager" taste with light herbal and tart notes, light alcohol. Solid strong lager, nothing more, nothing less, quite solid for the ABV. Would perhaps drink it in a club.
2.2 Bottle (Leo's - ha!). bb 8/18. Gold with a collapsing white head. Aroma is fairly fumy with plums beginning to sweat in the fruitbowl, grain, boiled lemons. Getting towards syrupy, moderate carbonation. There is a little raw edge to the alcohol but it's not much for this sort of thing. Sweet with a nagging harsh bitterness struggling to keep it in check. Rogue fruity notes - plums and grapes. About par for what it is.
2.6 Can from Samagi Wine Store, Galle, Sri Lanka. Pours clear orange with a white lasting head. Aromas of sugar, honey, fruit and malt. Flavours of malt, peppar, grapefruit and wet paper. Alcohol well hidden in taste.
2.6 From bottle in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. Pours orange-golden slightly hazy with thin white head. Taste is very sweet, grain, corn and booze. Among the malt liquors in SL it is above average.

3.0 Cotteridge Convention III – May 2017 - Can shared at Cotts. Big thanks! As ’Lion Strong Beer’, 8.8%. Golden yellow, clear and still, foamy light brown head. Aroma is apple, cracker malts, sugary. Body is light, tingly carbonation, frothy. Taste is spicy, cracker-like malts, rounded malts, some apple, touch of booze. Very drinkable. Good for the style. (5-4-5-3-13=3.0)
2.3 A: Dark yellow with a small-medium white head. N: Lots of malt sweetness T: Still a fair amount of sweetness, but not enough to make the beer seem heavy. Bitterness takes a back seat. P: Medium O: Not overly complex, but deceptively easy drinking. A couple of these and you’ll be on your ear.
3.0 Another beer I tried at the 3rd Cotteridge Tasting on 20th May 2017. Cheers Mrs Scopey for this offering. The can gave up a clean and clear golden bodied liquid which produced a small white head as it settled. The aroma and taste were malty, grainy and pretty sweet from start to finish. My sweet tooth taking to it instantly. The beer was actually a lot better than I expected for a ’tramp juice’.
3.0 Can shared @CWC III, thanks to Mrs Scopey, cheers for the Malt Likka Lorna. Golden beer with small head. Aroma of malts. Taste is malts, corn and syrup. Love it.
