Lionshead

Lionshead

Lionshead is a classic Standard American Lager Crisp, clean and slightly dry with some residual sweetness, it is as refreshing as it is thirst-quenching.

We use the finest American two-row and six-row barley and corn; domestic hops add just a touch of bitterness.

2.0 Tap @ Jack Browns. Very rubbery smelling. Golden with thin dissipating head and no real lacing. Tastes like watered down lager.
4.3 My friend brought me Lionshead once for a football game. I had never heard of it so, what the heck, I took a try! I opened the top and took a big swig and not to my surprise, this beer was delicious. Basically all beer is. My friend directed me to look under the cap and there I found a tricky little riddle. We finished out twelver and figured out all of the riddles. Some are really easy, but there are tricky ones too! I have spent the past few months drinking Lionshead trying to figure out and collect all of the riddles. I lost my job, girlfriend, social life, and most of my family but I have finally collected all of the riddles that they have manufactured. Great product, definitely will buy again.
2.4 Aroma: cereal, grass, Appearance: clear gold, white head Taste: light sweetness, lightly bitter, Palate: light body, thin feel, soft carbonation, abrupt finish. Lawnmower beer.
2.4 It’s hard to believe that breweries other than the major macro conglomerates still put out adjunct-ridden cheap pale lagers. There’s really no reason for them anymore – everyone like craft beer now and these type of beers pretty much all taste the same. What’s the point of a brew like Lionshead Deluxe Pilsner Beer? If it were actually flavorful it’d be a different story, but this is actually rather foul-tasting. I poured a 12oz bottle into a pilsner glass. It was bottled on 11/12/15 and cost only $1.29 ($0.11 per ounce). Appearance: Dark gold color with a clear body. Plenty of consistent carbonation visible. Pours to a small, white, foamy head which retains and laces remotely well. Smell: Familiar cheap adjunct lager aroma of corn and stale grain. A slight sweetness, but not enough to save it. Taste: Knowing what I do about beer, I’ve reached a point where I’m actually surprised when a beer tastes bad and not from brewing flaws like diacetyl, dimethyl sulfide or acetaldehyde. A beer like this is deliberately designed to taste this way – why? It’s just a mildly sweet malty slurry flavor with a noticeable corn water taste (maybe it is DMS after all). No metallic character, though I notice a tanginess on the finish and a bit of a bile-like flavor right as it goes down. To be fair, there is a faint amount of sweetness here, but it’s not enough to salvage the rest of the palette. Perhaps if it were fresh (and I’ll readily admit this bottle is rather old), it might make a difference; but for now this is just plain bad. Ick. Drinkability: Despite the name, Lionshead Deluxe Pilsner Beer is most definitely not a pilsner by any standard definition due to the use (and overt nature) of corn. At least it has the body and mouthfeel of a pilsner, though. Thin, light body with a watery texture. Though always bubbly, it’s not spastic per se. There is a slight starchy flavor that lingers, but it’s easily overlooked. At only 4.5% ABV this would be a refreshing, sessionable brew if it actually had any real taste to it. Score: 2/10
2.5 Clear golden body, medium sized fizzy white head that quickly dissipates, leaving behind nearly no sign of lace. Nose shows florals, light citrus, and grainy cereal and cracker. Flavor is similar with that typical macro pale-lager corny character. Medium to light bodied, lively carbontion, light sweetness, macro-metallic finish.
2.4 Draft. Clear pale yellow color, champagne bubbles. Aroma of peppery straw and paper. Taste is wet paper, straw.
1.6 Bottle rating from backlog notes. Pours a clear pale yellow color with a small white head. The aroma and flavor have grainy, corn malts, grass, pretty much macro mass produced taste, purely a tick.
3.2 Transfer from BA review on 8-31-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a deeper straw, light amber color with a billowy two finger pure white head. The head fades rather slowly over time, leaving only a very nice level of supper foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is lighter overall, but consists of a slightly bready and corny smell. There is a bit of a caramel aroma mixed with some notes of a light fruit and musty aroma as well. Taste – The taste begins with flavors of some caramel sweetness, a bit of breadiness mixed with a decent amount of a corny sweet flavor. As the flavor advances some lighter fruit flavors come to the tongue along with a bit of a musty grain and papery taste as well. There flavors take the taste to its end, leaving a somewhat musty grain and sweeter taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average to slightly lighter side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average side. The feel is quite appropriate for the style and makes for an easy drinking brew. Overall – Nothing fantastic, but for the price and as a session beer it is a good go to on any occasion when drinking is more a background activity.
2.9 I’ve been living out in North East Pa, so I’ve been drinking quite a few of these. Drank from the bottle. Aroma of generic beer, a lot of carbonation. Not a bad alternative to the world of light beers. Plus I feel more like a Rasta when drinking it!
1.4 Pours a light yellow with heavy carbonation. Has a faint aroma of malt. Taste is watered down malt and light fruit taste. The kegs usually taste a little like a burnt cigarette to me.
2.4 Had to try one these "Cheap" lagers from the east, a favorite among the local college populace. Faint grain aroma and taste, bland palate and finish. Typical pale lager.
1.7 Decent drinking all night beer. Goes down smooth. Is really cheap. Nothing special, but has ancient hieroglyphics under the cap.
1.5 For a cheap beer its not to bad. Great for alcoholics on a budget and college kids. Look for the riddles under the bottle caps.
2.0 Can. Subdued beer/hops aroma, average carbonation. Very faint hop flavors. Innocuous, but also mostly flavorless. Would not drink again.
2.0 Rated on 4-03-2011 (Bottle) This beer has a small very, very fizzy white head that quickly dissipates, yellow transparent body, fizzy, fast rising carbonation observed, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is pale malt, grain and a suggestion of hops. The taste is pale malt, grainy and a dry finish. The mouthfeel is very lively and this beer is medium bodied. Like the Lionshead Light beer, this beer lacks character, boring flavor and not a beer I recommend nor is it on my list of beers to want again.
3.5 Bottle on the Black Country Train Tasting Part I. Pours perfectly clear yellow with a light, creamy white head. Simple stuff: sugary dough, light straw, mellow bitterness, cereal. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet dough and cereal on the finish. As pale lagers go, this is fine.
1.1 Draft at Heavens Pizza. Ugh ... lives up (or down) to all the bad stereotypes for American macro beers ... clear and pale yellow, no head, flat corny aroma and flavors. No redeeming qualities (but nothing technically wrong either). (#5198, 8/15/2013)
2.7 Bottle @ The Train Tasting, Pt I. Light golden pour with a small white head. The nose is honey, a bit of paper. Some white bread. Fairly neutral on the olfactory nerves. The taste is honeyed pear. Golden syrup. Sings of mild oxidization. Clean finish. Light body, fine carbonation. Overall, inoffensive stuff. Not bad for the style.
2.3 Can on the high speed train tasting Birmingham Beer Bash. Light clean aroma with a little peppery hop.Than watery palate. Not much flavour, but clean.
1.9 Can on the Black Country Train Tasting Part I, 06/07/13, thanks to James (Jredmond) for this top pale lager want! Can badged as "Lionshead Deluxe Pilsener". Clear pale blonde with a thin white head. Nose is pale malts, cereals, sugar, light citrus. Taste comprises lightly toasted malt, sugars, bread dough, light citrus. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, crisp finish. Ok as the pale lager world goes - it won the showdown for me over Leightons beloved Utica Club! Just !
3.0 6th July 2013 Black Country Beano. Outbound train tasting! Light haze on this pale gold beer. Fresh palate, softish. Fine carbonation. Clean malt that develops thin cream. Light dried fruits. Light dry finish. Inoffensive.
2.4 First train beer of RB Black Country Beer Bus Bash; pale pour white head, malty aroma very much your generic pale lager, I could get verbose about this but I’d prefer to hear about the Virgin Train toilets.
2.8 Can on the train to Wolverhampton. Clear pale gold. Ok canned generic lager. Ok not exciting but some lemon on finish.
2.9 THOUGHTS: Not a style I care for much, but amazed how much better it is than a macro version. TECHNICAL: Can. Poured a sparkling, light to medium yellow with nice carbonation and a very small, white head that fully diminished. The aroma had moderate bread, pale malt, cracker and biscuit; light hops; and slight corn. The initial flavor was slightly sweet, acidic and bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and bitter, and slightly sour. There was pale malt, a little corn, a little cracker, white bread, biscuit, light sour malt and a slight hint of hops. The light to medium body was watery and then a little dry with fizzy carbonation and slightly metallic finish.
2.8 Clear golden color with a small white head. Aroma of stale grains, possibly stale hops too, citric, and corn. Taste of light toastiness, sweeter malts, bland, but not really offensive.
2.7 500 ml footed Pils glass draft at Fireworks Pizza in Arlington, Virginia. (Drank about 8 oz of this). The pour is a clear golden with a small white head. The aroma is a slightly dirty malt grain along with some herbal faint hops. The taste is light malt grain sweetness, a fair bit of the dirtiness, and a touch of the faint herbal hops. The palate is light bodied, with a high level of rough carbonation, and a slightly sweet finish. Just ok.
2.5 Drought. Pale yellow with whitish foamy small head, doughy aroma, fizzy, sweetish taste, crisp with an abrupt finish. Generic
1.8 12oz bottle. Pours a clear golden color with thin fizzy white head. Aroma of sweet grain and some slight fruity apple-like characteristic. Taste is sweet caramel malt, and "again" some apple.
2.8 Had this on tap at margarita murphy’s in NYC it was for $4 and a very good pale lager, pours golden yellow and much better than bud coors etc. good deal
2.2 Slight hoppy aroma with medium golden color and a very modest whit head. It has a thin hoppy flavor and a bready, malty finish.
