Logsdon Far West Vlaming

Logsdon Far West Vlaming

Our organic red ale is brewed in traditional West Flanders style. A combination of light, crystal, and dark barley malt, wheat, and oats are brewed with local whole-cone hops and a variety of select yeast and lactic bacteria. We age our red ale in oak barrels for a period of time to develop complex richness, soft tannins, and fruity tart character. The aged beer is then blended with young beer to create the desired balance of malt sweetness with a dry finish.

3.5 Keg at Cafe Beermoth, Manchester. Dark red shade with off-white head. Jammy fruity flavours, earthy, grassy, light tobacco malty. Not too sour, some acidity before it finishes. Decent stuff.
3.5 Bottle from Whole Foods PM. Pours hazy ruby with off-tan head. Nose was oak, dark fruit, cherry, berry. Tasted tart, fruity, oaky, with a complex finish.
2.4 Tap (Riga Craft Beer Festival 2016) Heavy dusty aroma. Sweetish toffee, some sourness. Taste is bland and sweet, a bit sour. Watery palate. A bit of bile in the acidic finish. Harsh. This one slap bang in the middle of the tragic ’let’s play sour with "craft" recipes’ trend.
3.5 On tap at RCBF 2016. Pale brownish colour. Thin layer of beige froth on top. Spiceness, hints of pumkin, wine-ish notes, sourness in the aroma. Slightly sweet, slightly spicy, herbal beginning. Hints of candy sugar in the middle. Earthy, bit sour finish. Sour aftertaste. Rather light bodied, quite well balanced sour ale.
2.8 Tap @RCBF 2016. Clear dark amber color. Small size, yellowish off-white head, stays. Sourish, acidic, apples, sweet in aroma. Sourish, apples, vinegary and yeasty in taste. Sour, acidic salad dressing taste. Soft carbonation. Harsh to drink.
3.9 Quite strong malty background, including toasted malts, fruity berry-like aroma outshines though, some drying wood notes. Light sweetness with moderate to light tartness, feels chewy. Very nice balance, love it

Moderate sweet, fruity, alot of berries and oak, hint of caramel, moderate avvids, some tart fruits. Cherry stone dryness and bitterness. Very good stuff
3.1 Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver Opaque amber color. Some acetic aroma and flavor; the flavor is balanced by some sweetness, it has enough fruity touch. But the final is quite weak. A bit messy, I don’t see the target, but it’s not a bad beer.
3.8 750 ml bottel. Pours a clear mahogany with light head. Aromas of dark buttery oak, dark tart fruit skins and sweet malts. Flavors of oak, unripened blackberries, dried oranges and dried grain/malts. Very nice
3.6 Has an amber-brown colour. Has a slight woody note, accents of plummy, sirop de Liège malts. Good.
3.6 On tap at St. Augustines on Rare Beer Tap Takeover. Fruity, with cherry and barrel notes. Dry, tart. Good.

Taste is of dry oak, sour and tart cherry, berries, light acetone and caramel malts ... Tastes like a very young Flanders but has fresh flavors .... Finish is of dry oak and tart fruits .... 3.4 Draught @ Bailey’s Taproom, Portland, OR. Pours dark reddish with a smooth head. Aroma of tart berries, vinous notes, farmyard and yeast. Taste is funky, slightly tart and woody with some ripe apples, wood and oak. Finish is yeasty, woody and ripe with loads of tartish apples. Not very aggressive, feels almost like a hard cider.

3.7 Tap at Draught 55 quick stop. Brownish red thin filmy head. Nose is tart grapes and yeast and wine. Tastes vinous, herbal, yeasty, some berries, yogurt, and wet wood. Not that tart of palate more slick. Pleasant enough
3.8 Proletariat, NYC tap: pours red with small head. Aroma is wood and cherries and wine. Taste is sweet and ki d of sour. Nice woody maltiness. Not too much aftertaste but enough to make you remember it. Tasty.
3.6 750ml bottle acquired from Binnys South Loop (Chicago, IL). Finally grabbed this sucker. Been looking to do it for awhile. Pours a fairly hazy copper ruby hue, darker middle, hazy body and some nice reddish fiery glow onto the edges and bottom. A loose bubbly off white head atop dies down and laces small. Quickly dissipating layer with loose ringer. Aromas show firmer oak and vinous fruit. Touches of grape, cherries and earth meet gentle leather, wood and oak. Jabs of balsamic, raspberry remnants and tart cherries meet some decent lactic tartness as it settles.A bit of earthiness, carmelized elements sneak in behind, bready and subtle biscuity elements. Subtle red wine, decent lactic kick. Initial is lighter end of the fold overall, a touch of body with some punchy lactic bite up front. Tart cherries, subtle red wine, and some decent oaky character works it’s way in. Vanillin, wet wood and gentle vinous character meet earth, subtle toast and carmelized appeal. Subtle yogurt, more earth and some tart fruit. Dried dark fruit and some gentle body, firmer oak into the backend. A bit of twangy and metallic punchy lactic sourness, some subtle citric and tart cherry appeal. Metallic, a bit dry and toasty as we press into the backend. This works pretty well. True to it’s base but enough lactic and oaky appeal to make it interesting. This works well overall, a firmer oaky appeal that shows that toasty/biscuity life into the backen and finish. Never heavy, this one still goes down pretty easy. Dry, tannic, toasty, lactic with dark fruit, vinous characters, some earthy and leathery qualities. Overall, a bit of a murky pour but some healthy striking glow at times. A light enough body and wild enough appeal to make it work, this flows pretty nicely. Red grapes, plum and some raisin and dark fruit vinous appeal really softens the blow. Decent sourness, firmer oak, toasty appeal. Bitter cherry pit, metallic mineral appeal. I dig this. While it’s sure not to "Wow" or overwhelm, it’s pretty great flow, good flavors and integration make it a pretty proven offering. Tasty.

4.0 Moderately sour and acidic, richly textured - oak and cherries and wine. Pretty solid across the board on this one.
2.8 Bottle. Dark red. A lot of oak. Dark fruit. Buttery feel, maybe it’s just the yeast or maybe an infection. Not my favorite.
3.1 Bottle. Cloudy ruby with medium off white head. Tart, tannic, vanilla, oak, and very buttery in the finish. Medium mouthfeel. Might be slightly infected.
