Lompoc C-Note

Lompoc C-Note

To call C-Note very hoppy would be an understatement. It’s brewed with the seven "C" hops (Crystal, Cluster, Cascade, Chinook, Centennial, Columbus and Challenger) and pushes the bitterness limit to 100 International Bitterness Units. [Imperial pale ale does not IIPA make. Changed style to IPA. -mj]

3.3 Bomber from Roth’s. Very deep amber in color. Sweet bready nose with a touch of hops. Breadiness up front with a bit of malt. Decent amount of hoppiness. Some English qualities. More earthy than anything.
3.0 "after the greatness that was the ba doppelbock, this was a letdown. average beer at best, far below average double ipa, especially from the Pacific NW. Maybe old, but again, no date. muddled malts and some hop bitterness in the flavor, but little aroma to speak of. another meh. Better second time "
3.2 On tap. A: Golden with a fluffy receding head. N: Pine, earth, band-aid, tangerine, pineapple. T: Moderately sweet with some hop bitterness. M: Resin with a medium body. O: a Decent Imperial Pale Ale. Nothing special.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a very slightly hazy amber color with a moderate off-white head on it. Nose is fairly hoppy, and has a lot of grass notes to it. Taste is only slightly bitter, and has a subtle residual sweetness to it. Very drinkable and approchable for an IPA.
3.5 Split bomber imported from Portland with sherm1016...pours a foggy orange...may have gotten some bottom yeast into my glass which changes taste slighty. Resin / citrus / pine in the nose. Sweeter taste with malt influence. Bitter finish....good / tasty.
3.5 No bottle date A: Pours a nice orange ale with under a single finger of creamy foam which falls to a sheet of the same. Nice rope lace. Excellent clarity. S: Pine, resin, citrus, black olive (?), some nice sweetness as well. T: Sweeter than I anticipated. Bitter with some nice resin style hops and some citrus flavors. Above avg, but not by much. M: Medium bodied with decent carb and a semi dry finish. O: Not a bad beer at all, but not something I would spend much time seeking out. From notes verbatim on 10/27/10 A: Semi-murky copper ale with low/no head. S: Pine, oranges, grapefruits. Floral tones in here as well. T: Lower bitterness than I had anticipated. Tons of hops, tons of flavors. Yum! Resiny at the end. M: Lower carbonation and higher body then I expected. D: Great beer at the price point ($4). Serving type: bottle 09-26-2011
3.3 Bomber from Albertsons. Pours a mostly clear dark reddish copper color with a small white head. A light caramel and fruity nose. The flavor is bitter, green, fruity, light caramel. Pretty mellow really. Malty balance but defined by green raw hops. OK.
3.6 January 2012. On tap in Portland, OR. Orange amber color with an offwhite head. Loads of hoppy aromas with pine and citrus flavors. Excellent balance and complexity. Dry hoppy finish
3.5 In short: A caramelized resinous IPA, nourishing not refreshing. Good beer. How: Bottle 22oz, consumed fresh a week or two after purchase. The look: Mostly clear golden copper body topped by a medium off-white head. In long: The hoppy nose is mostly hops resin with underlying floral-citrusy notes and caramelized malts. Taste starts with a big chewy caramelized malts backbone creating a strong crème caramel sensation. This is well balanced by resinous floral-citrusy hops. Bitterness is round and sticky, no sharp grapefruits or citric character here. Full body with a fluffy-chewy texture and plenty of soft bubbles. This is a nourishing IPA, if you’re looking for a refreshing beer this is not one for you. I personally prefer my IPAs more refreshing and drier but this is nonetheless a well-made nourishing IPA. And I’m sure glad I have ratebeer to enter my beer ratings, I started adding my beer ratings on the “other site” and it didn’t take long before they closed down my account, I can’t believe if, fuck LinkedIn.
3.2 pours hazy dark golden, red tint, with a minimal off-white head, some retention. very piney, toasted and slightly sweet caramel, sweet toasted spicy rye bread, decent fruity-spicy malts, herbs, grass, some citrus, quite spicy too. average to soft carbonation, medium body, harsh piney finish. not very balanced. in your face brew. meh.
3.8 A friend sent a 22 oz bottle from SoCal. Poured in a St Bernardus chalice...modest head and some lace. Aroma of citrus hops and herbal spice. Flavors of citrus hops, white pepper, funky tropical fruit rind, grapefruit rind. Overall bold in the hops but some astringency and unpleasant funky notes take away from this amalgamation of "C" hops.
4.1 Draught at The New Old Lompoc 5th Quadrant. Big hop monster! Full-bodied. But not excessively malty. Yes!
3.5 22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours amber with a light beige head. Aroma of citrusy and floral hops, and some pale and caramel malts. Flavor about the same, with not enough malts to balance the hops. Average texture. I with this was a little hoppier and had more caramel maltiness to offset the pale malts.
2.2 Nice alcohol content, but the flavor is slightly offensive. I would not try it again, but I am interested in what else Lompoc has to offer.
3.6 Caramel brown in color... Aroma is light citrus hops... Notes of caramel malts initially which gives rise to a pronounced citrus hop bitterness on the palate... Solid
3.3 Orange pour with a light tan head. Aroma is citrus bomb. Grapefruit, orange, lemon, a little pine. Flavor is similar. Not very bitter but a big citrus note. Good.
3.5 Tap at Fifth Quadrant (NOL) - 07/11/12. Lightly hazed mid amber with a decent sized off white head. Good lacing ensues. Nose comprises pale malts, light floral notes, hops, touch of pine. Tastes piney, hoppy, light grapefruit, touch of minerals. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, smooth on the palate, bitter finish. Ok pale - would reccomend.
3.7 Out of the bottle. Pours a darker copper color with a small white head. Smell is a little malty with a decent hop smell. Not overly hoppy taste as it is 100 IBU, but still enough for me. A malty nutty finish. This is a great beer.
3.5 Draft. Rich amber beer with a cream head. Light malt and light citrus aroma. Citrus and light pine flavor with light caramel. Medium bodied. Citrus and light pine lingers with light caramel and a light herbal note.
3.7 650ml bomber pours a pale amber color with a 2 finger white head that settles quite quickly and leaves only a few spots of lacing. Aroma is grapefruit, pine and other citrus with some earthy notes and caramel. Taste is a wonderful blend of hop bitterness with a decent balance from the caamel malty sweetness. A nicely balanced IPA that is quite tasty and deserved of a tasting.
3.1 Poured from a bottle. Not a big head; not a lot of carbonation. Aroma of hops, but taste is not as smooth as I expected. Too much hype around this one.
3.2 Portland, Or - John’s Market Place - 22 oz bomber. Dark copper pour - bubbly off-white head, light lacing. Fruity aroma, some ripening vegetable notes. Flavor has some, a bit of dull citrus bitterness, a hint of potting soil. Uneventful mouthfeel. Not my favorite on my trip to the PNW.
3.5 Draft at Chuck’s 85th Street Market in Seattle, WA. Pours a dark copper color with golden amber edges and a 1.5 finger off-white head that quickly settles into a thin ring. Sporadic spots of lace left behind. Earthy hop aroma with lots of floral, grassy pine countered by sweet malt. Floral but the hop character is a bit one dimensional and the malt presence is a bit stronger than I prefer. Hints of caramel, toffee and biscuit counter the resinous pine presence. Medium bodied with a blast of dry, sticky hops that dominate the flavor, lingering over the sweeter notes into a bone dry finish. Very earthy and bitter with lots of sticky pine needle and grass overpowering the palate. As it warms, a prominent sweet malt character comes forward with hints of toffee, caramel and bread. There’s also a bit of alcohol heat/sweetness toward the finish. Decently balanced but not very interesting. Not a bad beer but I probably wouldn’t order it again.
3.4 Poured from a bomber into a tulip glass. Quite surprised at the color, light copper, lots of bubbles and no real head. Smell: Lemonade and grapefruit. Taste: Light hops, then bitter ending that stays on the tongue for only a little after. There is a little sweetness in there too. Curious, but nice. Light body, low carbonation, crisp. A solid, good beer. The darker color threw me off. It comes off more as an IPA, but without getting kicked in the teeth by the hops.
3.0 There is plenty of potential here, but this bottle was seriously undercarbonated. The flat mouthfeel doesn’t play well with the hippy character of this beer. It is full of hop character, but ultimately a disappointment.
3.4 Bottle shared by Beerkat. Sweet malt flavor, very fruity, with grape, cherry, and grassy hops. Some citrus in there as well. Alcohol evident. Ok.
3.3 Huge sticky hop nose. In the mouth it is MUCH lighter and well, tame. Solid drinking, but a thin body for 7%. Tropical fruit, pine, but nothing too outstanding. Enjoyable, but ultimately forgettable when comparing with what is available these days. Thanks Beerkat!.
3.5 22oz bottle from Belmont Station. Pours a dark amber color with an off white head and some lacing. Aroma is hoppy, pine and citrus, medium on the palate with average carbonation. Flavor is sweet, bready malt, pine hops, with a sharp, pine hop finish. Definitely hoppy. Past it’s prime though.
3.1 Dark red-orange with a small white head. Candied citrus and piney undertones in the aroma. Pineapple, mango, citrus, and a resinous pine hop flavor gestalt dominates with some bready malt bracing. Evergreen resin hop bitterness slightly lingers in the finish, with some sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium light, slightly dry.
3.6 Revisted this beer from last year when I didn’t rate it. This one was much better. Great head and color with more hop presence and slightly less maltiness. The finish was a lot cleaner this time.
