Lonerider Sweet Josie

Lonerider Sweet Josie

Sweet Josie is crafted in the American Brown style. This is a complex beer balancing a nice hop bitterness with a generous amount of chocolate and aromatic malts.

3.3 Bottle from Total Wines, Sterling VA. Copper coloured, with a decent, white, head. Sweet, with brown sugar and hints of berry fruits, before a touch of toasty malts and gentle, slightly boozy, finish. Good.

3.4 Pours a deep brown with minimal tan head. Notes of toffee. A little too bitter an aftertaste for me
3.0 3 month old can A: Pours a dark clear mahogany or tea color with a short tan head that fell quickly. S: Bitter chocolate with pine and faint orange in the background. T: Bitter citrus hops and sweet chocolate blend well then fade fairly quickly without much aftertaste. M: Light to thin body and lively carbonation with very clean finish. Drinks like a much lower ABV. O: Tasty if not very complex. Well balanced and accessible.
3.5 Chocolate malt aroma. Nice body and full flavored. Has a descent amount of hops to balance the malt but it is not too bitter. Overall a nice brown. Maybe slightly on the bitter side actually.
3.4 Dark amber in color with a moderate brown head. Aromas of caramel and roast with some fruit. Flavors of caramel and roast with a bit of floral.
3.8 Pours up dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is caramel with some roasted nuts and toffee. Taste is malty and sweet with caramel, roasted nuts, and a hint of dry bakers chocolate. A very good brown ale
3.4 Brown pour, slightly creamy. Chocolate, bready aromas. Spicy (Amarillo?) hop notes. Medium finish and weight.
3.3 12 oz. can from Bob and Sheree’s in Fayetteville, NC. Dark brown pour with a foamy white head. Nose is sweet toffee with coffee and toasted bread notes. Taste is slightly bitter with a spicy edge with a sweet finish. Nice brew.
3.2 Malty with caramel and some bready grain. Earthy with a bite. A bit of hops that comes through more in the finish.

3.2 Can, very dark brown with a foamy head, sweet toffee on the nose with hints of resin and coffee, sweet bodied with a bit of toasty bread, a light spicy hoppiness, a little burnt cocoa and a sweet caramel hit in the finish.
4.1 chocolate, caramel, brown, medium sweetness, medium body, smooth, well crafted beer. My go-to beer when looking for something that everyone will like.
3.7 Draft. Roasty toast aroma. Flavors are of mocha kissed by orange, with a mild suggestion of honey and coffee. The little bits of orange and honey sweetness add wonderful complexity.
3.5 Grabbed a 6-pack of this while in the Asheville area over the holidays. This reminded me somewhat of our Maduro brown by Cigar City here in FL. Malt is a little more roastier and heavier on the chocolate. Almost like a malta. Semi-creamy texture. I would look out for this one again.
3.5 On tap at The Hamilton. Nice dark brown body with medium head. Nose of malts, roastiness, nuts. Taste is malts a plenty, sweet, nuts, chocolate and some toffee. Good stuff.
3.2 Amber to medium dark. Slightly hoppy finish. More full bodied than other browns. Draft is rich. Changed a year ago from bottle to can at local stores and not the same. Mistake. Good overall but suggest Big Boss Bad Penny for local Raleigh brown ale.
3.7 Very nice brown ale that leaves a smooth chocolate / malty taste on the palate - giving a very nice finish.
3.2 Draught at Vancouver Craft Beer Week 2015 Brown color with red shades, large compact head. The aroma is a bit yeasty, but the malt flavor is quite nice, a bit of sweet chocolate, not much bitter. Smooth. Nice.
3.3 Orange highlights. Brown yet attractive. Lace and some retention. Grainy malty start almost porterish. Clean and nice mouthfeel. Some body to it. Light finish.
3.4 On tap at VCBW Festival, pours a deep dark brownish amber with a medium white head. Aroma brings out toasted malts and toasted nuts. Flavour is quite deep, with toasted nuts, dry cocoa and toasted malt. Well-balanced and actually quite deep for a brown. Nice stuff.

3.3 Pours a deep chestnut brown color with a true nut and malt aroma. Taste is clean, simple, but yet complex. Flavor of brown malt, chocolate, and coffee. A slight hint of sweetness, caramel, and , molasses. This beer was very enjoyable with light bitterness in the aftertaste and good overall smooth flavor.
3.6 Draft @ RDU Indigo. Low aroma, a little sweetness. Dark brown color, white head, dissipates quickly. Taste is pretty sweet. Didn’t notice any hop bitterness. Med bodied. Overall, a pretty good American Brown. Not really my style.
3.7 Can from Whole Foods Market in GA. Aroma is sweet, toasted malts, chocolate. Taste is a touch of hops with a nice malt underbelly. Very balanced...reminded me of something (anything) from Anchor
3.4 Pours dark brown with tan head from draft. Malty caramel sweet aroma with notes of raisins and plums. Peppery hop bitterness. Fairly full bodied with medium carbonation. Nice beer overall complex flavors and drinkable.
3.4 Can. Pours brown with a large off-white head. Smells of sweet malts, alcohol, and leaves. Taste is sweet malts, nuts, and banana. Yum.
