Long Trail Ale

Long Trail Ale

Long Trail Ale is a full-bodied amber ale modeled after the “Alt-biers” of Düsseldorf, Germany. Our top fermenting yeast and cold finishing temperature result in a complex, yet clean, full flavor. Originally introduced in November of 1989, Long Trail Ale beer quickly became, and remains, the largest selling craft-brew in Vermont. It is a multiple medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival.

3.6 Light brown pour with minimal head. Aroma is malty and grainy with a mild chem and/or meat smell - like a frying pan used to cook burgers the day before. Thankfully that’s missing in the flavor which is nicely malty with just enough hop to balance slightly on the sweet side. Feel/finish is okay with lingering toasted flavor.
3.0 Last beer from a Long Trail variety pack and easily the least of the bunch. This altbeir is basically just a middle of the road amber ale. Malty body, easy drinking, very clean. I could see how something like this could be a good transitional beer for someone raised on pale lagers and malt beverages. It’s not bad at all, it just doesn’t do anything particularly memorable. Good beer for sitting around in a freezing apartment trying to decide what movie to fall asleep to.
3.1 Pouls a medium brown with a thickish off-white head. Kinda light/olive for an amber. Aroma is definitely of an amber, but not too overpowering. Flavor is same. Solid amber - center of the line. I’m not a big fan of ambers. This beer doesn’t suck, though.
3.4 Bottle. Aroma is sweet brown sugar malt. Taste is sweet malty with a malty bitter/hop finish. Its a very easy drinker.
3.1 Looks good and smells good. A solid Amber. Just a little thin. All in all, a nice easy drinking beer.
3.5 Pours a reddish amber color with ivory colored head. Caramel malts, bread, toast, and some cereal on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes very malty.
3.0 Bottle, pours a clear light Amber color with a light tan head. The smell is lightly roasted malt, some herbal notes, fruit and a touch of brown sugar. The taste is roasted malt, light fruit, a bit herbal ending a bit dry. Light body with average carbonation.
3.4 Bottle purchased in Vermont. This is a really nice Amber ale. I have enjoyed many beers from this variety pack, but the long trail ale is one of my favourites.
3.8 Bottle. Bought in Cambridge Mass in the store that sells singles (does every store here?). Pours deep but reddish amber with small dense off-white head. Nose is caramel, heavy cream, sweet-smelling fruity esters. Flavor is great - understandably a classic where it’s from - simple, vienna-like slightly sweet and very caramelly malts. Finishes with a really refreshing and zingy touch of clean german noble-like hops. I really liked this - this is the kind of beer that will make America great again.
3.5 Bottle: (labeled as 5.0 ABV, 28 IBU) Clear, dark amber with a thick, off-white head. Nutty, caramel aroma. Taste is roasted nuts, caramel malt. A pretty nice, toasty beer....rather enjoyable.
3.4 Sample from package, at Maury’s Tiny Cove beer tasting. Amber orange color. Thin, sort of bubbly off-white head. Kind of toasty malt up front, and caramel. Nice touch of earthy, piney hop. Medium body, mild slick. Lighter, kind of crisp carbonation. Moderate-plus sweet taste, good light bitterness too. Very nice, balanced amber ale.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a sparkling amber color with an average-sized beige head and moderate carbonation. Malty aroma. Sweet with caramel malt flavor, cereal and biscuit notes. Light-to-medium bodied with a creamy texture. Very drinkable.
3.2 Rating 500 for the beer - draft - nose is creamy malts if that makes any sense to you because it does to me. Smells like a cream ale that bas biscuits in it. Sip adds grass. I could go for a liter of this. Light and not boring.
1.9 Golden clear and color very little carbonation Light head with some lacing. Smells very much like a lager or an Oktoberfest. The taste is also a lager like Crispness with a strong malt backbone. Does not seem to fit the profile of an amber. It tastes much more like a lager or lighter type beer. Not good compared to Amber ales..
3.6 Pour from a 12oz bottle. Clear light brown brew with very light off white head. One finger of head seems to linger on forever. Aroma dominated by malts - caramel but some very light toast - some light crisp hoppy notes. Taste is light caramel and very light toast up front, a little salt, sweet malts in the middle and then finishes with a mid astringent hoppiness, some notes of greet fruit and tart hops. Very good mouthfeel. Not complex or extreme in any aspect but solidly tasty and enjoyable.
2.9 Draft in Ayer, MA. Darker, soft cloudy copper-amber. Tart sweet malty aroma. Mild fruity amber, some metallic heavy grain. Ok.
3.1 Pours almost brown with a foamy tan head that lingers. Nose is malty. Taste is balanced: fresh malty sweetness and a mild hop bite. Decent brew.
3.3 Bottle. Orange-amber, clear, low thick head. Malty, minerally, earthy nose. Somewhat faint, but authentic. Caramel. Medium rich malt flavor, some caramel and fruits, earthy, grassy hops, decent bitterness with clean, peppery finish. Decent alt, nothing special.
3.5 Pint at Teller’s in Cincinnati. Nice surprise. Decent caramel and butter flavor. Good for the style.
2.9 Long trail ale is an average beer. When pouring the beer I thought the color looked great but the beer lacked an aroma and the taste was good without being to complex. I would recommend this beer to someone who is just beginning to get into micro brews as this is not that complex.
3.2 Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: 8-oz. glass From: My aunt Jenny Price: $2 Purchased: N/A Consumed: July 8, 2015 Misc.: Born on Feb. 13, 2015 Poured a copper, caramel, clear color with two fingers of khaki tan, frothy head. Lots of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. Below average lacing on the sides. Average retention. (Sight - 3.50) Smelled caramel, Munich, nuts, light roasty malts, buttery malts, faint hazelnut or maybe even maple syrup? More Oktoberfest than anything else. (Smell - 3.50) Tasted a little more zip than the nose. Got German Munich malts, roasty malts, buttery malts, caramel, nuts and light hazelnut. (Taste - 3.63) Light body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Roasty finish. (Feel - 3.75) I may have slightly overrated this, but it wasn’t horrible. Not bad. (Overall - 3.63) 3.61 82 B
2.6 Bottle. Clear deep amber color, medium white head. Aroma of apples and caramel. taste is sweet malty caramel.
2.9 Ambrée. Nez de dattes et de caramel. Au goût: caramel, herbe. Une amertume moyenne fin de bouche. Bien, rien de mémorable, cependant.
3.7 Amber color , light clean smell, hop taste is bitter with little late addition. Finish our dry and quickly leaves.
3.7 Bottle complements of whatever dummy left it under the bush in my front yard. Amber pour with silky white head. Apple, caramel, biscuit, citrus, soy sauce. Lightly bitter. Moderately sweet. A little bit tart. Medium, smooth body. Somewhat astringent. Better than I expected.
4.0 Aroma: grass, herbs, caramel, Appearance: clear amber, off-white head Taste: light sweetness, lightly bitter, Palate: light body, sticky texture, average carbonation, long finish, Nice, must seek out other altbiers.
2.7 12 oz bottle served in tulip. Golden amber color. Soft thin off white head doesn’t last long. Some lacing. Weak malty aroma, no significant notes. Taste is very lightly sweet with a touch of bitterness. Average carbonation. Light bodied with a thin texture. Abrupt finish. Not bad but nothing special.
3.4 Bottle. Pours copper with a creamy white head. Aromas of caramel, plum and raisin. Flavors are caramel with herbal tones and fruity notes. Creamy mouthfeel. Not bad.
3.0 Bottle to shaker glass, pours clear dark amber, two finger off white head, decent lacing with some retention. Aroma of bread and grass. Taste is medium sweet only a touch of bitterness. Light bodied, lively carbonation, metallic like mouth feel. Finishes dry. Tasting notes of bread, herbs, toffee, pear and grass. It’s OK, but nothing to write home about.
3.4 Bottle. Aroma is mix of malt, yeasty dough and resin. Appearance is clear medium brown (think root beer) with good sparkling and nice inch-thick foamy off white head with decent retention and good lacing. Taste is more sweet than bitter but a mix. Not terribly complex. Palate is light to medium bodied with average carbonation and moderate finish, mildly bitter. Overall, interesting smelling and above average appearance for a highly drinkable but fairly average tasting/mouth feel beer.
