Long Trail Brewmaster Series Centennial Red

Long Trail Brewmaster Series Centennial Red

Brewed to celebrate 100 years of the oldest hiking trail in North America, the Long Trail. This ale features a slightly sweet malt flavor delicately balanced by the use of centennial hops. This bigger beer goes down smooth, please indulge with moderation.

Our Imperial Red Ale has the traditional characteristics of a red ale with the addition of an ample amount of hops and a higher grain bill that yields more sugars during the brewing process; resulting in a higher ABV.

(1er mai 2013)
4.0 22 oz bottle. Pours dark red with a short lived white head. Aroma is of citrusy, piney hops, caramel malt and ripe fruit. Body is full and crisp. Piney hops, caramel, citrus fruit and cherry combine on the palate. Finish is long and dry. Well done brew.
3.5 22oz bottle in a snifter. Pours very dark brown/ruby with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of caramel and cereal malts plus a good amount of floral and citrusy hops. Flavor the same, with a nice blend of everything and hiding the alcohol well. Average texture. Not a bad beer, but has a weird finish or note or something.
4.6 This pours hazy reddish brown with a lush off-white head. Decent lacing is happening here. It remains cloudy. (There’s something that I just find sexy about a cloudy beer). It smells of strong honey and some cereal. I taste malty sweetness (just what I want in a beer), sugar, honey and some fruitiness. The 7.9% ABV is completely hidden in this pleasant flavor. The finish is sweet and somewhat hoppy. All stars are aligned. It’s a bit heavy on the mouth feel with low to moderate carbonation. I am quite a fan of this beer.
4.0 Very fruity on the nose. Dark reddish-brown in color with a dense frothy head on pour. Light bitterness, not at all sour, and VERY sweet. Light bodied and pleasant. I think it would make a very good autumn light dessert beer. With substantive food, it’s a bit overpowering. Not an everyday beer, but still good.
3.1 Bottle pour into tulip..reddish crimson hue..wow is this malty..malt dominant in the nose and taste..not balanced out very well..cloyingly sweet ..decent but not memorable in a good way..
3.0 Dark brown pour with garnet hints. Biscuit and bread with mildly oxidized caramel flavors, giving way to grassy bitterness and toffee resin. Rich dough and bready oxidation in the finish as well. Medium to full palate with a sweet and astringent finish.
3.2 Deep red with large light tan head. Aroma mostly sugary malt with maybe some grass-like hops in the background. Medium full body, slightly creamy, minimal alcohol presence. Flavor is mildly sweet, mildly hoppy, hard to detect anything specific although there seems to be a generalized smokiness going on. Interesting although not my favorite.
3.6 Ruby color with a cream-colored head. Aroma of caramel, fruit, and hops. Caramel, fruit flavor with a slight hop ending. Really nice beer. Decent body with creamy mouth feel.
2.9 Large bottle .. pours a muddled ruby brown .. . light foam .. light spots of lacing .. . light nickel caramel and sweet hay .. . others liked this more than me but to one dimensional for me .. . . you might wanna buy a coat.
3.8 Deep ruby appearance, full bodied American Strong Ale. Citrus bitterness well rounded with maltiness and pine to round out the sample. At five bucks a bomber a very good deal. I liked this one, the Brewmaster Series have given me a whole new perspective of Long Trail Brewery.
3.3 Tasting at Papsø’s Hazy red-amber color, with small head. Aroma of caramel, vegetables, dust. The flavor is better, caramel, moderate sweetness, strong bitterness, some vegetables again. Nothing special.
3.5 Great pour with amazing color, but as an imperial IPA goes it could use more hops
3.8 Pours a beautiful dark amber with a balanced orange/yellow mixed hue. Aromas of fruity/citrus/floral hops and grapefruit. Flavors of sweet citrus/fruity hops, with a decent caramel malt balence. Wow much better than expected. Mostly like a sweet dipa. Sweet, medium bitter finish, tangy, and full of hop flavor.
4.3 bottle. i love a good red ale and this is nothing short of fantastic. deep ruby red with a small, stable, beige head. big malty nose with lots of sweetness, caramel, dark fruits. full body with a juicy palate. warming finish in a good way. flavors of big sweet malts, the crucial toast/coffee note, and lots of fruits (think red apple, plum, black cherry). could drink this all day.
3.6 Bomber from Half Time. Pours ruddy amber with a foamy beige head. Aroma is citrus. With roast malt. Med+ body. Flavor is pretty roasted malt with quite a bit of hop. Citrus/resin. Floral too. It’s a nice drink that finishes not quite dry. Malt stays in to the end.
3.3 On tap at Tap and Mallet. Translucent deep amber, nice head lasts well and leaves good lace. Aroma is caramel and citrus. Flavor is gummy malts and an anise and citric hop finish. Enjoyable beer. Not mind blowing, but well executed and balanced.
4.1 Bottle; clear orange with small beige head; aroma-pine, grapefruit, caramel; taste-medium sweetness, medium bitterness, full body, oily feel, average carbonation, bitter, long finish. Good beer. Drinks like an IPA
3.5 It’s a red.....almost no head, but decent lacing down the glass. Good hit of maltiness at first, slight raisin and coffee with some bitterness and it trails off into a slightly sweet aftertaste.
3.3 A dark reddish amber ale with a thin light mocha head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with nice British hops, lightly floral, some light dark fruits, not bad. In mouth, a sweet nutty malt with grassy British hops, light astringency, warming alcohol, unbalanced and a bit harsh. On tap at Reservoir, March 12 2012.
3.2 22 oz. bottle from Epping Meats & Market place for $6.99. Want to guess the color of this beer? Yep, it’s a deep red with little to no head even during an aggressive pour. Very light Co2. Nose is mostly caramel with pine resin. Medium body shows flavors of caramel malt, a touch of toffee and a decent amount of pine hops. Long, lingering resin bitterness. ABV is masked well. Balanced well enough. This brew was exactly what I was expecting and craving. Not something I’m running to go buy more of but… it’s a hoppy red ale that hop lovers, (who like pine) should enjoy.
3.1 Had this on tap after I switched over from an uninspiring pint of FA Back in Black. Red color capped by a small off white foam head with ok retention. Lacing covers the glass. Nose is bland with light notes of biscuit and pine. Taste pretty much leaves me as uninspired as the previous pint. More sweet than I was expecting. Bitterness trys to cut in but is denied. The alchohol is well hidden. Medium bodied. blah. Rated via BeerBuddy
3.4 22 ounce bottle pours an amber red color, aromas of grapefruit, toffee, honey, and a twinge of pine. Flavors of caramel, grapefruit, pine, coffee, and a splash of honey.
3.4 bottle, via trade, amber colored pour with a sweet buttery caramel aroma, flavor is similar caramel, cashew butter, chocolate and leather
3.3 bottle. dark amber pour with nice head. grapfruit, coffee, spice. pretty good beer. well balanced.
4.0 Bouteille 1 pint 6 oz. Rousse foncee. Nez subtile avec un peu de malt et des agrumes. En bouche: un peu de cassonade et un peu de pamplemousse blanc. Le sucre residuel persiste en finale. Pas trop de sucre, pas trop d’amertume: tres bon mais pas memorable.
3.4 (22oz bottle, courtesy of blutt59) Pours a clear amber body with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, grapefruit, pine, and cherry. Flavor of caramel, cherry, honey, light citrus, and toffee.
3.7 Deep amber red with a decent beige head. Aroma is of malt, spicy hops. Taste is of light grapefruit, spicy hops, malt, caramel.
3.4 Bottle thanks blutt59 The look is clear, amber color, carved, off white head. The smell is caramel, hops, malts, sweet. The taste is hops, some bitterness, sweet, and bread.
3.5 Solid brew, very red, hoppy, malty balance, with a nice spice note in there as well. Highly carbonated and smooth from start to finish, nice bite at the end to finish it off, well done from Longtrail.
