3.2Pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma has dark fruits and coffee...a bit of a sharpee note. Flavor has dark fruits, burnt roast, and a bit of coffee but still a sharpee note. Mouthfeel is full and the finish is dark fruits/coffee/sharpee and warming.
3.3Lacks aroma but coffee notes do come forward at the start. Smooth throughout and a finish that reinforces the coffee foundation
3.3Great lightly roasted coffee aroma, nice head, very inviting. But then everything seems sort of light all the way through. It’s fine but nothing stands out. It’s like a really good decaf, it’s tasty, but something seems lacking in the end. Still, not a bad beer, and probably a crowd pleaser.
2.7Pours a deep black. Negligible aroma, which is surprising. Really nice on the palate. Roasted coffee on the tongue and a nice long finish. Strong.
3.3If you like tons of coffee and lots of alcohol, this is your beer. Me, I thought the palate was too thin, and I wanted more malt character from this one.
4.2Coffee forward malty goodness dark and dank, musty notes. Great tan head, tasty too! You can detect the hops in the back-end. I don't detect solvent alcohol and that's good. It's easy drinking and a terrific swallow! I would prefer a lasting lingering coffee on my palate aftertaste. But it does not. Call it a cheap date...I do like it.
3.5Coffee dark bread dough bittersweet chocolate and earth on nose. Black pour thin tan head. Flavors of soft sweet dark malts coffee dough earthy dryness. Soft carbonation. Smooth body. Not bad.
3.4I think I expected more out of this than I got... from notes - Deep dark pour with a quite thin than head. Nose is light coffee, bitter and light but sweet roasted malts. Flavor is coffee, again with bitter dark, and milk chocolate. Roasted malts. Medium to light body... I maybe would’ve liked more body and complexity than this offered for me.
3.5Listed as longtrail imperial stout per fox and the hound. Notes from 1/8/12. Thick and brown. Long lasting creamy head. Initial taste was weird almost detergent like. Body was nice, full bodied and creamy. Sweetness balanced with chocolate and dry bitterness. Finished nice. Not bad overall.
3.4Draught. It may have been a bad pull given the ratings others have left. I found this to be to heavy on the coffee, over carbonated, and a bit watery. I normally love coffee beers but this was a real disappointment.
3.7Dark brown/black color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of toasted malt, coffee, & chocolate; Flavor of roasted malt, coffee, caramel, and bittersweet chocolate; Nicely balanced; Solid coffee stout.
3.7On tap 4 oz. pour at Whole Foods in Vienna, VA. Opaque, brown-black with nice tan head and extraordinary lacing. Aroma of coffee, dark fruit, raisins and dark roasted malt. Taste of coffee, dark roasted malt, dark fruit and chocolate. Medium/full body and medium/low carbonation.
3.5Taken from my BA account, reviewed on 3/5/12
Live tasting bomber courtesy of caguiar (thanks buddy!!) into Duvel tulip.
Appearance; pours a very deep, dark brown... Appears a solid black in the glass. A very slight mocha colored head with minimal retention... Lacing is non-existent...
Smell; tons and tons of coffee, hints of chocolate and vanilla... Some roasty malts sneak in as well.
Taste; definitely got some coffee in this one, chocolate, roasted malt, hints of vanilla and anise on the finish.
Mouthfeel; a little on the thinner side with a slight lingering finish... Goes down smooth, with a velvety mouthfeel.
Overall; a rock solid coffee stout!
3.8Bomber->snifter. Deep brown with bare white head. Coffee, chocolate, and malt, with a sweet finish. Good, but a little thin and predictable.
4.2Pours a near-black. Aroma of coffee and alcohol. Malty taste with a slight bitter back note. Delicious on national stout day.
3.4Malziger und weicher kaffeeartiger Beginn. Röstig, geringe Süße, würzig rund, vielleicht etwas trocken. Süßlich malzig, die Kaffeenoten sinken etwas Harmonisch, süffig, gut. 9/10/12/10/12/11
3.6Aoma: strong acidic coffe feel, good roast ,mild alcohol as backing.
Look: dark brown black with lighter beige tanned top.3+
Taste etc.: medium full bodied with low mellow carbonatiom. Strong coffee infuence. Clean and quiet approchable. Solid offering.
4.0Ok, so I’ve been on a coffee stout kick lately. This one pours a oily black with a tan head that fades to nothing in about a minute. Aromas of coffee (obviously), roast, some anise. Taste is roasted coffee, some milk chocolate, some hop bitterness. Alcohol completely hidden. Body is quite this, which detracts from the mouthfeel, but adds to the drinkability so it’s kind of a wash. Man, this one goes down easy. This is a solid imperial coffee stout.
3.2On tap at the Great Lost Bear, Portland ME in April 2010. Looks almost black but on closer examination it’s more a very dark red. Not much head. Quite hot alcohol. Not the biggest mouthfeel for an Imperial Stout. Some coffee, although it doesn’t dominate. Surprising amount of chewy fruit. Pleasant enough but didn’t quite do it for me.
3.9Bottle poured a pitch black with a small tan head and notable lacing. Aroma is huge fresh coffee beans, roasted malt, and a hint of bakers chocolate. Taste is bold smokey roasty coffee upfront followed by cocoa and milk chocolate on the finish. Wonderfully smooth with a great mouthfeel and lingering coffee notes.
3.8Bottleshare BBQ at Dave L’s, PA - 27/05/12.
Black with a thin tan head.
Coffee forward nose, lots of it, roast malt, sweet sugar in the background.
Lots of coffee again in the taste, a little wood and vanilla, quite sweet.
Medium body, drinkable.
3.9Bottle pours a inky black brew with a thin brown head. Scent is coffee and chocolate. Taste is coffee, roasted malts and some smoke.
3.9Draft at capones. Pours pitch black with no head to speak of. The aroma has a little chocolate, coffee, mild roast. The taste blows the aroma out of the water. There is tons of coffee with a sweet chocolate finish. Great palate. Really good stuff.
4.2This is a great example of a proper coffee stout. Coffee taste seems to come from the malts not from a coffee pot. This is a fantastic beer but lacks the body needed to make it a strong stout.
3.8Growler from Joe Canal’s in Lawrenceville NJ. Opaque black in the glass, 1.5 inch head that rapidly dissipates. Toasty aroma, not exactly hoppy, just enough crisp bitter tannins to add balance. Can’t believe the ABV given the light balance and mouthfeel. Coffee and mild burnt toast balance against the malt, best I can say is "it tastes like I’ll have another!"
4.2From the bottle stamped 011912-1921. It pours a rich dark brown to nearly black with an elegant, silky beige head. The aroma explodes with coffee, chocolate, and caramel goodness with just the slightest hint of a hop in the background. The body is in the medium range although slightly acidic. The warmer it gets the tastier it becomes. Flavors of chocolate and coffee with an above average bitterness lingering at the end.
4.1Seriously black pour. Immediate aroma of coffee, nuts, and roasted malt. Intense flavor with a lot of nuttiness, coffee, and roasted malt. Excellent beer!
3.7Huge rOasted flavors. Tons of coffee, great job guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3.7Enjoying a big glass of this beer as I am writing this review. Just cracked open a 22oz bottle fo this. Nice dark, dark brown color and thin foamy head. Beautiful taste and smell of coffee and some chocolate. Taste is not overpowering---I don’t want to say weak, but it is nice, has really nice flavors. Mouthfeel is nice and smooth. A very good, solidly above average coffee stout!
3.6Bottle. Ok Longtrail seemed to get this one right. A solid coffee / chocolate aroma. The body was full with plenty of roast , coffee , chocolate and yeast in the flavor. A nice silky dry finish.
Well done.
