3.2An imperial IPA with no smutty nose. Thick head. Like sucking a lemon through a pine cone but in a good way.
3.5A-small half finger of head with filtered apple juice color. Faint lacing with white head
S-lots here. Big Resin, syrup and mild malts up front with peaches, honey, and faint pine making up the rest.
T-malts and resin mostly, with some soap and pine. Very faint grapefruit. Tropical and citrus variety at the end. Some bread and soda crackers.
4.3Poured from a 22 ounce bottle, I notice the amber color and low head. Aromas of lemon and hops. Creamy palate with tastes of vanilla and a hint of clove. Not overpowering and not bitter. This is a high quality beer, worth another go-around.
3.0Pours with a slight hazy golden body. Head is white, big bubbles. Aroma is crisp bitterness with a tang of orange and lemon zest. Taste is slightly bittersweet. Palate is bitter citrus (orangey-lemon) and grassy flavors. Glass retains a white bubbly lace.
4.1Pale golden color, lots of lace. Nice frothy orange scent, a little pine, pungent. Mildly bitter, citrusy taste with an easy aftertaste. Nice beer all around.
3.7Pours a cloudy golden color with about a finger of head and some nice lacing. There are lots of small particles floating around. Aroma is resinous hops, citrus, pine and a touch of malt. Nice. Taste follows the nose and is initially sweet but then the bitterness kicks in and lingers after the finish. I like the balance. The body is medium and slightly creamy and oily. A decent DIPA.
3.7Pours an orange. Briefly starts sweet but ends extremely bitter as expected for a double IPA.
3.8Bomber pours hazy yellow with a full white head. Aromas of hops grassy notes with citrus and pine. Flavor is bitter and very hoppy. Body is medium and a bit astringent. Finish is bitter and grassy a bit boozy as well
3.966cl Bottle, thanks Harmen! As Brewmaster’s Reserve Double IPA, grey & black label. Slightly hazy golden orange colour, off-white head. Aroma of light sweet floral malts, pine, light sweet citrus, very elegant. Flavour is soft and sweet, crisp malts, flowers, light sweet citrus, bitter citrus and pine in the finish, nice and balanced. Medium-bodied, high drinkability.
4.0Bomber pour into a tulip glass. Color looks like an apricot -- quite striking. Aroma is fairly typical for an IPA, more on the grapefruit side of hops than pine. In the mouth it’s fuller with more body than I expected, and initially there’s almost a sense of cream. I can’t recapture that feeling on subsequent tastes, and the hops shine through with grapefruit and astringency. There’s a bit of the roundness in the finish, and a hint of sweetness. I’ve gotten a bit burned out on super hoppy IPAs, but this strikes a nice balance between the hops and other beer flavors.
3.9Bottle. Red orange pour with a head that left a nice lacing. Floral, pine, grapefruit, apricot. Nice carbonation, mild bitterness and sweetness. Really nice and balanced but I wish finish is longer.
3.8Orange, abricot, céréales et sapinage en arôme. Au goût c’est assez sucré avec un goût légèrement médicamenteux, finale très amère.
4.01 PT 6oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy honey colour with a thin creme coloured head. Aroma is grapefruit, pineapple, alcohol, tropical fruit, golden syrup, and some mineral/hard water notes. The taste is forward with tropical fruit, and grapefruit followed by alcohol, faint graphite, some excellent sweetness underneath, and finally some malt in the finish. I totally bought this on impulse, and I’m glad I did. Excellent. 8.6%. Danger beer.
4.1Smells sweet with a nice caramel aroma. Bright and cloudy in appearance. Has a bitter bite to start and evens out. Hangs on a palate in a good way. A bit of alc bite
3.8Draft at beer fest. Pours clear copper with a small white head. The aroma Is pine, passion fruit, grapefruit, and a little orange. The taste is medium bitter with a nice grapefruit finish. Long trail is looking sharp at beer fest.
4.022 oz. Bomber. Pours a nice gold. Very nice citrus notes with a nice touch on tongue. Delicious.
3.6Poured from a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a hazy deep gold with a white head. Piney citrus aroma. Muted bitterness.
4.0Citrus not too bitter a little grapefruit and some pine but not as much as most double Ipa
3.7On tap at the 20th Vermont Brewers Festival. Strong amber with a billowy white head. Grains, citrus. nice malt backbone, resin, surprised by a bit of kiwi, grapefruit, peach, lemon zest, bit of alcohol. Moderate to high carbonation, moderate body, bitter, bit bready, astringent, becomes dry and more alcohol.
3.6Bomber. Pretty orange color, oily, fine low head. Nose of orange, tropical fruit, pineapple, honey, crackers. Sweet flavor, honey, sweet orange or mandarin, tropical fruit, syrup. Nice bitterness—not huge. Alcohol comes through a bit too much. Good, fruity, tropical, sweet IPA.
3.4Bomber. Thanks to Chris H. Nice balanced aroma with prominent peach notes. Gold, good head, very thick lacing. A springy syrupy sweetness; mid palate has very noticeable alcohol warmth; sharp, tangy aftertaste, and then a mildly bitter finish. Medium body. Quite tasty, but the alc. heat is a bit much.
3.6Bottle from Whole Foods Foggy Bottom, DC. This DIPA had a really nice citrus and floral hop presence. It had a filtered clear pour and a slight alcohol aftertaste lurking in the background. All in all, though, an exceptional pour that I really enjoyed.
4.3One of my current favorites and a steal at $5.99. Bottle pours effortlessly with a nice white head. Its bitterness is so understated that its really smooth and a hoppy IPA with no apparent issues. A great DIPA and one of the better ones out there today...
3.7Light citrus/pine-resin aroma with a hint of doughy yeast. Cloudy amber color with a tan head. Bitter, but softened with sweetness and a slight sourness. Hops taste most akin to grapefruit. Full-bodied with thick texture and long finish. Overall, not a very bitter Double IPA, but good nonetheless.
3.2Draft at The Pour House in Westmont, NJ.
Pours a hazy, dark golden orange color with tangerine edges and a one finger frothy white head. Pretty good retention, only slowly fading into a lasting ring. Streaks and chunks of soapy lacing left behind.
Slightly floral, resinous hop aroma with lots of grassy pine countered by citrus/tropical fruit and pale malt. Kind of similar to the west coast style with nice pine needle character countered by grapefruit, pineapple and lemon peel. Not as tropical but pretty juicy with subtle pale malt in the background.
Medium bodied with a strong floral and earthy hop presence up front that provides some lingering dry bitterness. Perfume like and pretty boozy with subtle citrus fruit notes. Slight sweetness but not as much as the nose suggests. Pale malt backbone with bread, biscuit and graham cracker flavor. Lots of sweet booze in the finish. Not harsh but not very refreshing or drinkable either.
3.1meh..98 points? no way. Dank hops. Bitter and resinous. Insufficient malt especially for a double. Out of balance. Disappointing. What I get for getting a DIPA on the East Coast (Troegs and Southern Tier excepted).
3.5Dark amber, average head. Hops in the aroma, of course, and a background tone that was something like salted, buttered corn. I liked the smell. The taste was fairly standard IPA, with big citrus vapor in the nose on the exhale. This is not an IPA I’ll buy again, I’m partial to the dark ones and the rye ones. But I did like this.
2.6Bottle. Light amber with foamy cream head and decent lacing. Smells like sticky sweetness and chloro. Flavor is kind of buttery and sweet- like caramel popcorn- then lightly bitter. (Not sure if maybe it went bad.) Light bitter finish- perhaps a touch peppery.
3.7Pours cloudy gold with a big froth white top. Aroma is citrus hops and sweet malts and some pine notes. Taste is pine and citrus hop flavours but well balanced with the malts so the bitterness is not overpowering. Nice beer.
4.2Not what I was expecting from a "double ipa" but still a great beer. An underlying sweetness cut through much of the bitterness that the "86 IBU" label boasts of, but it does so eloquently. Nice lacing and a great finish that I’m still tasting, with citrus pith and walnuts dancing together while subtle pine and floral aromatics wait patiently to cut in. Despite not being quite what is advertised I still highly recommend this brew. Well Done to Long Trail.
