Long Trail Imperial Porter features a complex, darkly roasted malt flavor complemented by a thin, creamy head. The abundance of malt is balanced with a variety of hops, creating a clean finish. The recipe has been a homebrew secret that was developed by one of our own brewers.

3.8Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, raisin, earthy, toffee. The flavor is toffee, chocolate, prune, rich dark malts, creamy. An interesting imperial porter.
3.2Pours brown with a fading head. Mild/weak aroma. Bitter coffee flavour. Carbonation and hops on the tongue.
3.6Vintage 2011. Gifted by Nick... Thanks! Pours a very dark brown with a reddish hue. Smell is roasted malts, a bit of chocolate, and alcohol. Taste is surprisingly better that the scent... Which I wasn’t expecting. Smooth bitterness followed by unsweetened cocoa. Not really alcohol and a nice roasted malt undertones. Dry finish and good medium body.
3.4A very dark ruby-red with a white head. Spice and caramel on the nose, full bodied with hints of hops and spice. The long linger is delicious and clean.
3.8Pours dark almost black with a creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and caramel. Caramel, roasted malt, coffee, with a bitter ending. Very nice beer!
3.8Dark brown/black color; Medium creamy body; Aroma of toasted malt, hops, coffee, & some chocolate; Flavor of roasted/burnt malt, rich dark chocolate, coffee, hops, and some caramel; Finish is slightly bitter; Nicely balanced; Quite good.
4.0Draft at beer fest. The aroma Is coffee forward with some roast on the finish. The taste is very bitter and coffee based.
3.8On tap in a tulip. Pours almost black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted and chocolate malts, some bread, and a good amount of floral and almost citrusy hops. Flavor a nice blend of the dark malts and hops. Smooth texture. A good beer.
4.0Deep dark brown coloured body with a super hazy glow and a three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, tons of alcohol, a good amount of earth and a nice licorice and spice note. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavours with a touch of coffee, some lighter spices, a lot of caramel and a good robust chocolate flavour goes well with the thick body. Aftertaste shows a lot of good complexity with the roasted malt and coffee the best flavours and the alcohol perhaps showing a bit too much. Overall, a very nice beer for the style, somewhat surprising from the brewery, but a good offering, although still not as good as Zywiec. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 03-October-2009 sampled at home in Washington on 16-December-2009.
3.7has a slight roast/malty aroma, nice dark mody. Roasted malt flavor, silky body, pretty decent.
4.3glassware: Duvel tulip...occasion: watcing The Ten Commandments after the Easter vigil feast--and forty days without beer!...aroma: thick malty presence; not lactic, but a bit milky...appearance: dark black body with an imperially thick brown head; nice brown lacing...palate: active, aggressive presence; full-bodied, effervescent end...taste: slightly hoppy with a staunch malt backbone--a powerful punch...ovverall: "Robust?" Yup--although the alcohol slightly obscures the balance of the beer itself; intense and gripping, with a small physical price and a larger monetary bill--wish I could afford more of this!
3.8Tap at Joe Squared (Inner Harbour), Baltimore - 22/05/12.
Dark dark brown approaching black with a thin brown head.
Dark malts on the nose, coffee, chocolate a little dark fruit and a touch of wood.
Taste as nose but worth noting that the alcohol is very well hidden.
Medium body, lightish carbonation.
3.9Smells really malty, really roasty, really boozy. Crazy coffee, crazy sweetened, caramelized malt. Lots of booze. A lot better than anything else I had by Long Trail a couple months ago. On tap at Farmhouse Tap and Grill.
4.1Chocolate, coffee, and pipe tobacco in the aroma. Flavor is sweet with chocolate and vanilla, almost like a melted ice cream sundae. Chocolate/coffee bitterness and some alcohol in the finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Outstanding.
3.4Last bottle out of my cellar. CAn’t believe I hvaen’t reviewed this year. dark brown...pours black. 2 finger head subsides quick reminds me of coffee beans in colour. Smells of dried malts and prunes. Taste is pretty deep so hard to discern a lot. I get cereal, peanuts and dark chocolate. Slight level of earthiness and a finish that’s sweet and full of burnt chocolate and marshmallows. Very warming.
3.8Oil black with dark tan head. Good retention. Smell is delicious. Alcohol and malt mainly, some espresso and lots of chocolate. Acidic and milky with some excellent bite and a very thin body for the style. The flavors combine and blend very well together. Doesn’t necessarily taste like a strong porter but oh well.
3.6Originally reviewed: 4/13/10. Poured into a goblet. Pours a thick dark black with a moderate-sized tan head on top. Dissipates to a thin ring around the edge; leaves some spotty lace. The nose is somewhat underwhelming for this big beer. I’m getting some faint coffee, cocoa powder, and a wash of citrus hops on the end.
The body is creamy smooth. Spot-on for the style. As far as flavor goes, this one is not big and bold up front either. Definite roasted malts are present with some slight alcohol burn. The aftertaste is dark coffee which is excellent. Mild cocoa presence.
This isn’t the best Baltic I’ve ever had, but as I continued to drink this one, I liked it more and more. Not bad at all.
3.7Robust aroma when opened and poured. Distinctive hints of coffee and chocolate and a full texture that speaks to the strong base built from Malts. LongTrail should be proud of this interpretation of the classic porter.
3.6Bottle. Pour is black with a tan head, some retention/lace. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, roast, licorice. Taste is roasty, chocolate, earth, licorice, light fruitcake. Palate is creamy, lightly bitter, roasty finish.
3.2Dark pour, frothy head. Slightly metallic aroma. Roasty and slightly chocolatey, but a little lactic sourness. Eh.
4.0Srong tastes of chocolate and coffee. Surprisingly medium body for such a strong tasting beer. Great aroma too. Little bit of a burn in the finish. Overall a very good beer.
3.7These brewmaster beers are surprisingly good. Aroma is roast, chocolate, lactose. Reminds me of a nice milk stout. Taste is more of the same with a nice roastyness and well hid alcohol.
4.1Very dark brown with a coffee-coloured crema and aromas of demerara, a little liquorice and leather, a hint of fruit cake, just the faintest note of milk chocolate. Then a big rich body, with roast coffee, a little burnt dark fruit and a touch of treacle, some creaminess and liquorice coming through, followed by a bitter-burnt treacle finish.
3.8Rich and miky but with a great roasty dryness that really balances out. This is another very impressive Vermont beer
4.122oz, 2011 Vintage bottle at room temperature. A chocolate roast aroma upon opening, pours a black colored body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, brown head. The head slowly dissipates, but maintains a presence throughout. Decent lacing. Aroma is not overpowered by hops, mainly a malty caramel/chocolate aroma. The roasty aroma that was noticed upon opening disappeared once poured in the pint glass, but was very evident in the flavor as the beer rests on the tongue and throughout the finish. Silky mouthfeel. It finishes dry with a pleasant bitterness from the hops, but does not overpower the taste. The smoky coffee/molasses aftertaste lasts for minutes.
4.1poured from bottle into a pint glass. Pours a dark black color with a chocolaty head
powerful aromas of dark chocolate, malts, and ground coffee. Very good depth as well
full bodied with lots of malts and coffee. Very good depth and the feel is very good
A quality imperial porter. While it isn’t the most complex, it does what it does very well
3.7Bomber: Pours a very dark brown/ruby with a thick tan head, aroma has chocolate malts and dark berries, starts and ends lightly bitter, slick mouthfeel with a dry ending.
3.922 ounce bomber that poured a dark brown, aromas of chocolate coffee, caramel, and a touch of wood. Flavor is coffee, caramel, chocolae, some cherry, anise, dark malt, nice beer overall.
3.622oz bottle-pours dark brown with a dissipating tan head. Aroma is sweet dark malt-anise, dark fruit-cherry, wood. Taste is sweet dark malt-anise, wood, earthy hops, dark fruit-cherry. Aroma is more malt forward, Taste is more balanced. OK carbonation.
3.7Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aromas of hops, chocolate, roasted malts and some coffee. Flavors of roasted malts, dark chocolate, spicey hops, and some bitter coffee to round things out. Nice balanced flavor. This is a damn good imperial Porter.
