3.7Reviewed from notes.
The appearance has a dark brown/almost dark golden colored body with a small white head that lasts just a couple seconds. Spotty lacing running down the sides of the glass.
The smell has some mild roasted malts along with some nuts.
The taste is slightly sweet through the roasted malts.
The palate is light and sessionable with a mild nutty aftertaste and finish.
Overall, this is good for the style, and awesome to me.
3.512oz into a glass. Pours a rich and full amber red dark fire beauty. Head is full, subsides nicely to 1cm and leaves lacing. Aroma is of spice, nutmeg, orange spice, melon, herbal concentrate, slight pepper, fig newton and dried plum. Taste is dried plain fruit, not juciy, just dried out. Plum, figs, dates, rasins, brown sugar. tart resonating freshenss, full bodied on a winters day. Sips nicely in front of the fire, solid full bodied brew, mothfell is plentifual and full, satisfiying and enyoyable. Nice winter brew/
3.3Pours Amber with a thin tan head. Aroma of molasses and flavor of brown sugar. Very drinkable.
2.92/1/2010. From bottle. Dark amber color with a tan head. Malty caramel aromas with spices. Sweet flavors with caramel mostly.
2.4Amber colored beer with a fluffy tan head. Strong caramel and malty flavors with a molasses finish. Probably could have used more of a spiced note. OK beer but nothing I’d recommend.
3.1Bottle->snifter. Murky brown with small offwhite head. Sweet malt, with caramel and chocolate. Mild and plain.
2.6Bottle. Slightly hazy dark amber color with small beige foamy head that dissipates quickly, caramel like aroma, fizzy, slightly sweet taste with a hint of roasted malt, abrupt finish. A bit flat and weak at the end.
3.8Pours a hazy caramel brown with a light head. Aroma of cocoa with a floral note. Taste is lightly sweet caramel to start followed by a stiff bitterness that outlasts the mild sweetness to cleanse the palate. All that remains is a smoky cocoa and a mild tartness.
3.0Pour is a murky brown with a average tan head. Aroma is sweet malt, brown sugar and molasses. Flavor is a nice brown sugar and sweet molasses heavy malts. Finish has and almost cola like flavor. This could have used a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg to really bring this home. Still this is a malt heavy winter warmer.
2.9Muddy brown pour, thin white head. Malty aroma. Flavor is also a bit muddy, dark malt flavors, a bit of hop at the finish with some sourness. So-so.
2.7Bar in Waltham with Smiths. Basic brew pub style ale. Not what I would consider a Scottish Ale.
3.1Bottle. Deep amber brown color with barely any head. Aroma was very malty, with toasted wheat. Sugary malts and caramel in flavor, slight smokey finish with bitterness. Not much else, but overall drinkable.
2.8NIce honey color with a long lasting white head and a fairly strong aroma og=f hops. Slightly sweet with a slight tinny but not overpowering finish.
2.612 oZ bottle: pours chestnut brown thin head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of leather toasted malt sour yeast & resin hops. Tastes like a dishrag with caramel and some toffee thrown in to mask the flavored. Not fun or easy to drink. Not very good.
2.7on tap at parker pie, vt. cloudy dark golden with a small white head, little retention. faint fruitiness - banana esters, gum, very hint of smoke, some caramel and toasted malts, hint of spices. average carbonation, light body, slightly harsh, dry, herbal-grassy finish. meh.
2.8Bottle. Smells like malt. Tastes slightly sweet slightly bitter. Medium hop feel and aroma.
2.9Been quite a while since I rated a scotch ale. Pours a lightly deep amber with a frothy head. Aromas of toffee, caramel, slight hint of bubblegum, slight banana, and light grain. Flavors of slight banana esters, light toffee, slight smoke, and light caramel. All the flavors are light. Leaves a slight smoke aftertaste, but not noticed much in the flavors or aroma. Lightly bitter and lightly sweet. Interesting off the beat brew than what I’m used to.
3.2Bottle into a goblet. Pour is a haze light brown, with a fine head. Aroma is heavy malt and bitter. Taste is a very thick malt base with a hard bitter edge. Finish is s nice malt. Very good ale.
2.9Draft at Tattooed Mom, then later the Khyber. Poured a slightly hazy light burnt sienna. Foamy white head. Does not strike me as a Scottish Ale at all. Burnt biscuits. Slight smoke. Mostly dry finish. Very drinkable but not exceptional.
3.1Kind of a pale red color with some lace. Metallic and spicy malt. Nice fruity character. Disguised hop backbone. Medium body.
2.9Bottle. Copper color - somewhat cloudy. Clean, malty aroma. Malty, roasty and slightly hoppy aroma. Pretty weak for a winter ale, really.
3.0A drinkable beer. Mild flavors and not to heavy. Good for a seasonal but I’m not crazy about it.
2.612 oz. Not so good. Average at best. Like a weak lager. Nothing really "winter ale" about it IMO.
2.8Aroma is gritty and slightly nutty malts. The flavor is mildly nuttiness, fruit and gritty malts.
3.0Poured a clear amber with a very thin white head. Aroma is caramel, bread, nuts, cereal, herbs, and a faint earthiness. Taste is caramel, herbs, maple, nuts, and cereal. A little too sweet for my taste.
2.7Cloudy amber color with no head. Very faint aroma of caramel. Taste is similar to the nose with an additional hoppiness.
3.1A slightly better than average ale-pours a deep amber color with white head that dissipates rather quickly. This beer does not sit heavily, has a delicate aroma of brown sugar and honey, and its sweet taste has a clean finish.
3.0Pours a clear amber-red with a small off-white head. Smells of bread, nuts, floral. Taste is sweet and mildly bitter, malty with moderate hops. A decent brew but not spectacular.
2.7Pretty average semi malty ale. I could drink a sixes of these during a winter movie.
3.3From a bottle poured a light brown color with a small amount of head. Malty hoppy flavor with a lingering finish.
