Lost Abbey 10 Commandments

Lost Abbey 10 Commandments

Lost Abbey’s once a year Anniversary beer. A new generation of Dark Farmhouse Belgian-Style Beer that had Brettanomyces (a special Belgian brewer’s yeast) added at bottling. (from newsletter) (from bottle: Ale Brewed with Raisins) 10 commandments: 1. The most imaginative beers are our crusade. 2. We believe we are all in this together. 3. We strive for honesty and integrity in our lives like you. 4. Fresh beer is great, aged beer is better. 5.Now that you have found us, help us spread the message. 6. There is good and evil in the world, our beers are good. 7. Passion isn’t something you can buy at the corner store. 8. We believe an inspired life is worth living. 9. Life is about choices. The Lost Abbey is a great choice. 10. We are not perfect but no one is.

3.7 roasty, bread, chocolate, resin, leather, brown, red, minimal head, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, oily feel, medium body, average carbonation, abrupt finish, dark fruit, spices ,sweet, second glass was much better
3.0 From Sept 2008 This pours a cloudy brown with reddish hues and a very small head of foam that shrinks to just a ring around the glass almost immediately. When I popped the cork, it was the lightest sounding "pop" I've ever heard from a corked bottle. The smell has all sorts of goodies going on. Dark fruit like plum, raisins, and some spices greet my nose buds. The taste has all that fruit in spades with some toffee and molasses and when I swish the beer in my mouth, I get some tartness and a bit of funk and yeast. There's some spice here as well and as the label says it's Rosemary, I'm going with that. ;^) There's also a noticeable alcohol kick here as it's quite warming during and after the swallow. The mouthfeel is a very light medium and the carbonation is so low it's almost nonexistant. That could be improved upon as it reminds of drinking wine not beer! Bottom line: I like the flavours here, kind of reminds me of an Oud Bruin, but the lack of carbonation and the strong presence of alcohol limit the drinkability for me.
3.7 Bottle. Deep brown liquid with small to medium light tan head. Aroma of grain, raw sugar, red berries, raisins and light boost. Taste is very light sweet and light bitter with notes of raw sugar, grain, red berries and light raisins. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Nice.

3.8 (Bottle) clear, bright reddish amber colour with a tall brown head; aroma of stewed fruit, brown sugar; thick palate; intense, balanced flavour with a long, medium bitter finish

3.8 Deep ruby color with a fine frothy off white head. Good lacing. Looks nice. Solid aroma with a fine intensity. Full body and a tad rich carbonation level. Oily texture. Balanced sweetness. Dried fruits, some spices, chocolate, yeast and vinous flavor. Good complexity. Solid stuff. [Bottle from Vinmonopolet Aker Brygge in Oslo, Norway]
Kleur is erg donker.
4.1 Aroma is spices/cinnamon, malts and Belgian yeast. The flavor is Belgian yeast, malts, dark malts and a very spicy/mildly funky/slightly sour finish.
3.7 Piana obfita, nieco mydlana, szybko opada do firanki. To samo piwo w wersji bez rozmarynu skradło by moje serce. Nadal jest super, ale ziołowość pokroju piw świątecznych budzi skojarzenia raczej z czymś pomiędzy Gouden Carolus Christmas a St. Bernardus Christmas Ale i sprawia, że piwo staje się wymagające w degustacji.
4.2 750ml bottle from Systembolaget, vintage 2016. Dark brown with a dense tanned head, some lacing. Toasted malty aroma, sticky dried dark fruit, sherry, raisins and spices. Full-bodied, medium carbonated with small sharp bubbles that works well against the sweet and creamy mouthfeel. Spicy and herbal taste, sweet dried fruit, roasted malt, caramel, sherry, port, raisins, prunes, honey, peppery yeast, chocolate and licorice. Dry and warming finish. Several dimensions and very enjoyable.
4.2 Chocolate and coffee aroma, vanilla and berries also. Candy notes. Wonderful taste of Cola, cherry, brandy, burnt toast, vanilla and more. Smooth vanilla and chocolate aftertaste.
3.7 750 mL bottle. Originally reviewed 7/4/2013. Deep ruby brown body with a big khaki head. Thin surface foam. Nose is very spicy. Rosemary is evident. Dark fruit. A little cinnamon. Brown sugar. Flavor has lots of caramel and brown sugar right up front, but it drops off quickly. Raisins and dark fruits. Spicy and dry. Rosemary is strong again. Cinnamon spice in the finish. Medium body, nicely dried out. Highly carbonated. Like a Christmas ale in its spice component. Kinda overpowers the beer.
3.4 From bottle, poured a dark red amber colour with a off head. Nose of burned Candy sugar, caramel, Bread, caramel malts, cloves, spices and ripe banana. Classic taste, sweet malts, spices, dry aftertaste. Boring beer and overpriced
3.1 Aroma: raisins, dried fruits, alcohol, wine’ish, some spicy notes Taste: medium sweet, medium bitter, raisins, dried fruits, alcohol, wine’ish, some spicy notes
3.3 Dark redish brown, no head. Aroma: raisins, wineish, chocolate cake. Medium sweetness, full body, medium to high bitterness. Flavour: wine, dry fruits, bit of chocolate, lots of alcohol.
3.5 Aroma is sweet with sugar and fudge taking the lead. There’s quite a lot of spice action going on as well. Taste is is darker sweeter malts, christmas beer tones, winter spices and dark fruits. I catch a dry wooden note as well. Light alcohol in the end. Finely crafted, but it really doesn’t do it for me - at least not to that extent that I go crazy, strip down naked and run into the woods. I enjoyed it though.
3.7 Piękna, ciemna piana, szybko opada. W zapachu przyprawy, bardzo delikatnie wyczuwalne suszone owoce, anyż. W smaku więcej typowo quadruplowych przypraw i sporo słodkiego karmelu. Spore wysycenie, alkohol wyczuwalny. Dobre.
4.1 Classic ale aroma, nothing special. Dark color with low carrbonation. Alcohol present in the taste. Dark quadrupel with a caramel hint. Nice.
3.8 Clear, deep dark red and brown beer with medium but quickly vanishing head. Aroma has alcohol, dreid fruits, mostly plum and raisins. Also some berries, licorice and vanilla can be found. Taste has dried fruits, mostly plum, and also lots of spices, malts and warm alcohol. Some port wine feeling. Quite full body with lots of carbonation. Refreshing and easy to drink, however.
4.5 Aroma: Medium/heavy aroma of malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, dried fruit, dark fruit, liquorice, chocolate and roasted malts. Appearance: Opaque ruby/dark brown beer with a slight/medium beige/brown head. Taste/Palate: Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, dried fruit, dark fruit, liquorice and chocolate; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts. Overall: This beer is intense, complex and balanced. What an immense flavour that manages to excel at everything. Insane mix of fruit, chocolate and roasted malts. The appearance is just as great too. The aroma could have been stronger, but that is about it.
4.0 Pours a dark opaque brown with lasting tan head and a bit of lacing. Aroma has dark fruit and spices (cardamom?). Taste is slightly sweet with a short dry finish. Body is medium to full with slight carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. Every sip brought out a new flavor that I couldn’t quite identify. I hope to find this one again.
3.7 Pours a dark mahogany brown with a big tan foamy head. Sweet aroma of dark fruit and spices.Medium body. Light carbonation and plenty of lacing. Tastes of dark fruit and some spice. Hides the alcohol well but has a nice warm finish and a pleasant lingering aftertaste.
