From the French word "Garde" meaning something worth keeping, this Farmhouse Styled Ale is a most delicious companion to a loaf of freshly baked bread from the oven. Grab a seat on the porch, some soft cheese and a tree ripened apple from your grandmother's old orchard. Relax and watch the evening arrive as the afternoon sun is consumed by the illuminating moon over the gardens. We brewed Avant Garde for you, our friends and families. Here's to things worth guarding over.

3.8Flaska hos mig, tack!

3.4Keg at Brewdog Shepherds Bush, London. An orange coloured pour with a healthy white head on top. Fruity, yeasty, peach, spice aroma. Tastes quite similar, fruity, yeasty, peach, spice. It is fine but expected much more from Lost Abbey.
3.7Bottle. Honey yellow. Moderate white head. Nice belgian yeast on nose. Additional malts. Light body. The flavour is simpler. Blond-like. Very smooth. Good.
4.8Unbelievable beer. A true treat before, during, or after a meal. A great addition for any collection.

3.7Bottle from The Beer Mongers, Portland. Aroma is bready malt, sweet ripe fruits, apricot, yeast, spicy notes, mild candied fruits, peach, touch of pear, lightly floral. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and moderate bitter with a hint of tartness. Body is medium with fairly lively carbonation. Very nice complex array of farmhouse flavours, rich stuff.
4.0Pours a warm honey gold with a medium white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma is nothing special: bread, a little yeast and malt and a slight sweet straw. Mouthfeel is generally thin yet a slight touch of viscosity. Bubbles are small and subtle. Taste is light and a bit sweet. A little sourdough bread touched with a hint of honey-apple sweetness. Not to get too cute but it tastes like sunshine through water. As the label says, this is an easy beer to be enjoyed on a lazy sunny afternoon. Pairing perfectly with a little Mt. Tam from Cowgirl Creamery.
I think its perfect for what it’s supposed to be. I’m a fan.
3.2Decent, slightly uininspired. Some sweet maltyness, a few esters, medium body. Slight touch of barn.
3.80.75l bottle. Clear dark orange body with a huge and lasting white head. Aroma of caramel, orange zest, sugar syrup, floral hops, sipces and apricot. Taste of caramel, apricot, floral hops, toast and some honey. Nice beer.
3.9A dark yellow with orange notes, a head is medium and blond. Aroma has fruitness, flowers, some fruit candies and even perfume, hint of caramel. Tate has sweet fruitness, flowers, spicyness, some fruit candies and caramel body. Quite dry in the end due to spicyness and bitterness. Medium bodied, balanced and medium carbonation. Aromatic, complex and balanced. Even the big bottle keeps it’s interest.

Slight alcoholic aroma, spices, dusty room. A bit empty taste, bananas, spices, alcohol. Medium carbonation. Tiring.
3.7Orange color, huge beige head. Sweet and floral aromas with yeast, citrus, peaches, straw, sugar and pineapple(?). Sweet taste of caramel, marmalade, raisins, peaches, slight alcohol, sugar and a light floral taste during the finish. Really well balanced!
3.6750ml bottle from Systembolaget. Slightly hazy golden, dense white head, some lacing. Bread and malt aroma, yeast, toast and slightly fruity. Silky mouthfeel, medium carbonated, medium to full bodied. Fruity and malty taste, red apples, pears, biscuits, bread, notes of alcohol, hay, minerals and earthy. Crisp and warming finish.
3.6750 mL bottle. Originally reviewed 3/23/2014.
Pale orange. Nice white head. Thick white collar.
Smells of pale malt. Some belgian sweetness. Fruity esters. A little peppery.
Tastes of pale malt balanced by white pepper and wine-like fruitiness. Bitter grassy finish.
Medium body. Almost too heavy. Well carbonated.
Straightforward, but tasty.
3.6Lightly hazybgolden with a white head. Floral, honey, light spice, some hay, light bread malt. Medium fizzy body. Spicy bite in the finish. Enjoyable.
4.0Amber with a good pale head. Aroma is caramel, spice, hint of honey and dried stone fruits. Light bodied, starts lightly malty on the palate but finishes lightly dry and earthy. Taste is caramel, Belgian spice, earthy grain. Nice.
2.6Very dull I think I’m not fan of the style. Nothing much I can say about it, honey is noticeable and weird not nice bitterness
3.4Tap at Stone - clear golden color with small white head. Taste is lemon, yeast, spices, medium bitter dry finish. This is my first Bière de Garde, I think I highly like this style. Would be interesting to know why this should be for women though :)
4.3Fresh from the tap at Stone Berlin. Copper-golden with a stable with foam head. Very good and very nice for women.
3.6Bottle shared. Poured a murky amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is toffee caramel, sweet malt, yeast, alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet with a rich smooth crisp, sweet malty, fruity alcohol, dry yeast palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
3.9A 1 pint 9.4 fl oz bottle, bottled sometime in 2015 (as far as I can tell), and poured into a d’Achouffe tulip glass. It poured a clear copper colour with a big two finger off white head that dissipated fairly quickly but left decent lacing. Aromas were generally light, sweet malt, toasty bread, orange zest, apple, pear, earthy and spice. Tastes biscuity, light berries and caramel with a touch of honey, peppery spice and light alcohol. Dry, medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, this was nice, enjoyable and easy to drink.
3.7Aroma:
Medium aroma of malts, caramel, yeast, wood, fruit and bread.
Appearance:
Turbid/opaque golden/amber beer with a slight/medium off-white head.
Taste/Palate:
Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel, yeast, wood and fruit; ends slightly dry with bread.
Overall:
This beer is rather intense, complex and balanced. Extremely good for how not intense it actually is. Probably lost a lot of hop flavours, but the aging adds a really rustic feeling to this beet at the same time.
3.6Bottle shared by steveoj hazy pale yellow with a lively white head. Classic farmhouse aromas and flavors. Quite dry and a bit tart.
3.9750ml bottle from Green Mountain Liquor.. Pours out a milky pale golden with soft white bubbly head. Spicy aroma, equal parts floral and savory. Taste follows, spice, yeast, bready malts and faint floral notes.
3.6750ml bottle thanks to stevoj. Pours out a peach color topped with a white head. Nose is spice light floral perfume notes and some spice. Taste is more of the spice malts light floral perfume and some grain.
3.5Sample at SBWF 2016.
Hazy golden/orange with a white head. Aroma of fruit, light spices and yeast. Similar taste. The body was medium and the finish on the dry side.
4.0Citrus and spicy aroma, hazy yellow straw color, light tan foam. Mango and apricot flavor with carbonated mouthfeel. Hint of floral undertone in flavor, crisp and feels light for 7% abv
4.0750 mL bottle from Ridgewood Wine & Beer, Raleigh. Dark orange pour with a foamy off-white head. Aroma of lemon peel, faint leather, and light Belgian-style yeast. Taste features a subtle tartness with notes of white pepper, cardamom, and light horse blanket. Moderately dry finish. This one is a bit difficult for me to pinpoint all of the flavors but the important thing is I like it.
3.77%ABV. Bière de garde.
Poured out amber gold. 10ºSRM.
Nose is candy, like a jolly rancher, maybe mentos fruit, juicy fruit gum. Light formaldehyde aroma.
Mouthfeel is light syrup. Palate has sweet roasted malty with honey, red dates, Cheng tng (which is a local dessert of rock sugar, white fungus, red dates) this description thanks to my friend, Keola. Hops are noble in nature with solid bitter, which is barely there, so for me this is still malt balanced. Some spice and pepper in the finish which might be hops are rye.
Finish is clean, light sugary and so very very very much like Cheng Tng which is a light sweet candy like palate.
