Lost Abbey Box Set: Track #8 (Number of the Beast)
At a Glance The Beer: A fresh track, Track 8 is a spicy monster — A base of Judgment Day aged in freshly emptied bourbon barrels then spiked with liberal additions of cinnamon stick and dried chili pepper. ABV: 13.7% Released: August 18, 2012
Liner Notes We’ve never released a Bourbon Barrel version of our Judgment Day. So we thought it might be interesting to take the base beer for Cuvee de Tomme age in first fill Bourbon Barrels and let mother nature take over. Of course, because this is a Rock and Roll inspired Box Set beer, we couldn’t just leave well enough alone. Upon sampling the base beer, it became apparent that the raisins used to brew the base beer were going to drive the flavor bus of this beer. The conversations turned to Oatmeal Raisin cookies and the essence of a freshly baked treat. So we added some cinnamon sticks to the barrels and threw in some dried chiles as well. At 13.70 ABV this beer has amazing depth of flavor and presents a unique drinking experience for consumers who may be seeking enlightenment on Judgment Day.

4.0Pite z butelki na panelu w Morzu Piwa. Wiec ocena z wspomnień. Niby Quadrupel ale smakuje jak RIS. Bardzo dobre.
4.6375ml bottle from Tavour. Dark brown, opaque, huge head fades to thin cap. Aroma is boozy, sweet, pit fruit. Taste prunes, raisins, figs, light sweet notes, hint of chocolate. And the booze! Slight burn at the finish. Truly exquisite.
4.6Darker brown no head. Cinnamon, plums, doughy quad yeast, malty aroma. Malty, bourbon, chili, spicy quad. Ha! This is insane and it works! Malty, dry, raisins finish. Messed up freaked out take on a quad and it comes together so damn well. Fantastic.
2.5Black color, small foam. Aroma is sweet with bourbon notes, in taste as well. In general this beer not even close stood at Belgium Quadrupels. I tasted many quadrupels, it was pleasure to drink their. And it was a beer. This one is really complicate to drink. Another one bourbone-beer-mix.
4.0Bottle 375ml at Kultainen Apina. Vintage 2018. Dark brown beer, tan head. Dark malts, caramel, bourbon ba. Full body oily texture, soft carbonation, strong whisky in finish.
3.7(raisin (ad), ~sky, cacao pur, malt, lot complexe (trop) de saveurs, raisin/piment surmûris, cannelle, not easy)
4.3375 ml Track 8 labeled bottle. Poured into a brandy snifter. The beer is a clear amber brown with a fizzy beige head of foam. I get a big cinnamon raisin cookie character with just a tingle of pepper heat. Sweet, spiced, fruity, leathery, malty. Bigger body and moderate carbonation. One of my only carbonated Lost Abbey experiences. Pretty fantastic beer.
4.5375ml corked bottle, 2018 vintage. Boozy raisin aroma with notes of caramel, bourbon, vanilla, cinnamon and a little bit of chili pepper spice. Pours deep caramel colored with a large tan head that has excellent retention and good lacing. Starts with sweet raisin, caramel malt and cinnamon flavors as well as a rich full body and sticky sweet mouthfeel. Finishes impeccably smooth with bourbon, vanilla, chili pepper spice and some warming booze. Wonderful quad!
4.2Brown color with a bit of fizzy tan foam. Aroma is vegetal, spicy with raisins and red chilies. Taste follows quite spicy with caramel, fudge, chocolate, bourbon, butterscotch and slightly bitter and boozy on the finish. Quite light body with medium plus carbonation. Really complex and tasty but also boozy.

4.3375 ml bottle into snifter, 2018 vintage bottling. Pours nearly opaque dark brown color with a small fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big lightly tart raisins, plum, prune, cherry, fig, date, peach, pear, apricot, red apple, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, cinnamon, chili pepper, peppercorn, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, nuts, and brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, licorice, milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Increasing booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, raisins, spices, dark/bready/light roasted malts, and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge lightly tart raisins, plum, prune, cherry, fig, date, peach, pear, apricot, red apple, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, cinnamon, chili pepper, peppercorn, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, nuts, and brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, licorice, milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast, cinnamon, chili pepper, bourbon/oak tannin spiciness; and light herbal/grassy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart raisins, plum, prune, cherry, fig, date, peach, pear, apricot, red apple, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, cinnamon, chili pepper, peppercorn, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, nuts, brown bread, milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, raisins, spices, dark/bready/light roasted malts, and bourbon barrel flavors; with an awesome malt and yeast/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from yeast/oak spiciness and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, fairly sticky/tannic, and slightly slick balanced mouthfeel that is great. Mildly increasing warmth of 14%, with minimal barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an incredible barrel aged fruited/spiced quad! All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, raisins, spices, dark/bready/light roasted malts, and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the modestly spicy/tannic/drying finish. Perfectly balanced fruity/spicy yeast, spices, raisins, rich malts, and bourbon barrel integration. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example for the big gravity.
3.8Barwa ciemno-miedziana, piana kiepska.
Aromat mało-intensywny, dominuje papryka, w tle cynamon i nuty tostowe.
W smaku raczej wytrawne, tosty, melasa, suszone owoce w cukrze (rodzynki, daktyle), finisz lekko alkoholowy, z wanilią i posmakiem borubonu.
3.8375 ml bottle.
Pours dark mahogany brown color with a small head. Aroma is intense with bourbon, toasted malts, subtle chocolate tones, hints of spices. Flavor is toasted malty and spicy, subtle wooden notes, bourbon and vanilla, alcohol comes through a bit. Quite good.

3.9355ml bottle. Heavy, oaky and woody with loads of raisins, oak, bourbon, toffee, spices, cinnamon and hints of chili. Pretty complex and heavy.
3.7Sampled at Ace & Kees. Dark brown with tan head. Big sweet roasted malts, candy sugar, boozy. Big sweet and moderate bitter. Full body and soft carbonation.
3.9Sampled at Ace&Kees. Pours a dark amber/brown, tan head. Sweet malts, caramel, dark fruits, oak, booze, molasses.
3.9Sampled at Ace&Kees! festival. Clear dark reddish brown with dark beige head. Lots of bourbon, raisins, light herbs, sweet malts, eau de vie, light spicy 🌶, soft cinnamon and earthy herbs. Quite sweet but also boozy bitter. Almost full bodied with oily feel and under medium heat.
3.9Flaske.
3.9Deep mahogany colour with a creamy, tan head. Aroma has lots bourbon, cream, cookie dough, vanilla. Strong dark malty flavour, whiskey. Low medium body, medium carbonation, smooth and airy mouthfeel.
4.0Draft at Khyber Pass Pub. Pours dark brown with a khaki head. Leaves some lacing in the glass. Big bourbon on the nose and tongue. Also has some solid cinnamon notes. Hides it’s booze well. Very quaffable.
3.8Whoa alot going on. Raisins and chilis. Hot in every way. Boozy. Thx carter
4.2375ml caged and corked bottle.
It pours a dark brown with an initial impressive head of foam but it's short lasting. Typical of beers with that high an abv. 13.7% in this case.
The smell is a delightful mix of cocoa and cinnamon, Bourbon, dark fruit, smells kinda sweet and sweet.
Taste is of Bourbon, raisins, cinnamon, cocoa nibs, sweet but not overly so. I dig the complexity. Wee bit of oxidation going on but in a good way. I get the rather subtle taste of chiles. That's the way they should be done, imho.
At times it feels full bodied but in general, I would call it medium. It had a nice pop when I pulled the cork out so I expected decent carbonation and I got it.
The flavours are so pleasing to me; gots to give it a score deserving.
4.3June 11th, 2015 - Lost Abbey's dark brews are the creme de la creme for me in San Diego, and the Track #08 fits well within the pantheon. Though the shade at the back of this beer establishment makes it hard to see the true color, it's predictably dark with a centimeter of light brown head. From there I catch smells of oatmeal raisin cookies, and then port. It's deep and burly and luxurious. So is the flavor, bold and mellow, like a big brew that's been well aged. The sweetness is like frosting on a high quality cake, which cools in the aftertaste to deep, macerated cherries. It's rich and complex, and shows off Arthur's diligence to strong and dark beers.
4.2Tap. Heavy roasted, caramel dark bread and candy sugar for the malt, light cooked orange for the hops, moderate to heavy dough for the malt, with raisin, wood, coconut and alcohol in the background. Head is small, creamy, off-white, with some slippery lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is dark brown. Flavor starts heavily sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. Palate is medium to full, creamy to syrupy, with a soft to lively carbonation and a moderately alcoholic finish. A super rich and full Quadrupel.
4.1Be careful opening a bottle - as soon as I moved the wire cage, the cork popped like a champagne plug and spooked my cat. It pours dark chocolate with a frothy, short-lived tan head that still manages to leave some lacing. Aroma yields raisin, roast malt, cinnamon, caramel and woody notes. Flavor provides rain, dark fruit, roast malt, caramel, cinnamon and woody tones - devilishly delicious. Texture features fairly firm and definitely smooth body, some nice fizz. Judge this beer well.
4.3Lezakowane 1,5 roku
Barwa nieprzejrzysta, ciemno-rodzynkowa z piekna drozdzowa pianka. W aromacie wybuchaja rodzynki, melasa, suszone sliwki, wanilia, debina i troche drozdze. W smaku duza slodycz, rodzynki, cynamon i troche ostrych papryczek wegierskich. Pozniej suszone sliwki i melasa plus lekkie chilli.
Ser nästan svart ut i glaset. Kryddig kanel i doften med chili i bakgrunden. Även russin, choklad, bourbon och hostmedicin. Stor kropp. Lite hetta från både alkoholen och chilin. Stort och sött i smaken med mycket kanel, bourbon, alkoholvärme, chili, russin och dadlar. Inte jättesvag för varken kanel eller chili i öl, så inte helt min grej. Men fortfarande bra.
4.1Bottle. Dark amber beer with small head that quickly disappears. Decent aroma of raisins, bourbon, molasses, spices. Moderately sweet, with rather low bitterness and subtle spicy finish. Complex, interesting beer.
3.9Bottle shared by a friend. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Nose of malt, chocolate, cinnamon and raisin. Malt and raisin flavor giving way to caramel before a cinnamon finish.
3.9Bottle. Pours dark brown with a thin brown head. Aroma of sweet raisins, cinnamon, bourbon and vanilla. Flavor was sweet and boozy with raisins, bourbon, cinnamon, vanilla, dark fruit, oak and some hints of chili. Stellar quad.
