Lost Abbey Cuvee de Tomme
Once upon a time it was the most award winning Pizza Port beer of all time. Now it has found a new home at The Lost Abbey. A massive brown ale base that is made from four fermentable sugars including Malted Barley, Raisins, Candi Sugar and Sour Cherries, this beer is fully fermented before being placed in Bourbon barrels where the beer ages for one year with the Sour Cherries and the wild Brettanomyces yeast that we inoculate the barrels with. One of the most complex and unique beers we make each year.

Bottle from Lost Abbey, 2014 vintage. Brown color, white head. Sour taste with cherry, raisins, earthy notes, yeast, berries, bourbon and oak. Sour finish with cherry, raisins, earthy notes, berries, bourbon, oak and sour apple. Excellent sour ale.
37.5 cl bottle split with Gyhallmanti, bought at Acedrinks. Appearance: dark chestnut brown with no head. Aroma: red wine, cherries, some vanilla, rum soaked raisins, and a hint of ethyl acetate and sweet onion. Taste: above medium sweetness, medium bitterness and rather high tartness. Notes of red wine, cherries, red fruits, some raisins, vanilla, red apple and tannins. Palate: medium to full bodied, oily texture and soft to flat carbonation. Tannin wryness is not to harsh. Alcohol is well hidden. Overall: very complex, but also quite sour. Luckily I can handle some sourness. I expected a bit less sour though. Happy that I have another bottle.
37,5cl bottle split with SimonBlok. Courtesy of SimonBlok. Pours a dark brown colour with a slight reddish hue. Notes of cherries, brett, apple, alcohol, and other odours I can't bring to words. Taste is moderate sweet, light bitter with a soft dry and very sour finish. Notes of apple, cherries, raisins, boerenjongens, raisins. Texture is oily to watery, medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Good beer but just way too sour for me
8oz pour at Small City Taphouse for Kha's birthday on 11/10/18. Been searching for this one for a while. Pours dark red/brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of malt, funk, berry and tart fruit. Malt and sweet raspberry flavor with funk and light spice before a sour berry finish.

Vom Fass im Stone Brewing Berlin 2018-09 getrunken. Dieses fast schwarze Sour Ale kommt einem wunderbaren Fruchtaroma und einer sehr deutlichen Säure daher. Es ist sehr vollmundig und ist eine hervoragende Alternative zum Rodenbach Vintage. Für mich klar - Traumstoff! 10/4/10/5/19
Aus der Flasche (Vintage 2011) im 2022-05 getrunken. Dieses rötlich-schwarze Ale kommt deutlich im Flämish Red Stil nur das hier über die guten 10 Jahre in der Flasche der Eichenfass mit seinen Taninen deutlicher mit geworden ist. Dahinter kommt gleich ein Kirsch-Aroma. Gegenüber der 2018 Version frisch aus dem Fass wird hier die lange Flaschenlagerung sehr deutlich und wodurch das Ale etwas abfallt. Aber immer noch ein komplexes und echt spannendes Ale. 8/4/8/5/15

Keg at Beavertown Extravaganza, Printworks Surrey Quays. Strong aroma of stewed fruit and red wine. Smooth and crisp.
Tap. Moderate malt aromas of roasted grain and cane syrup, light flowers for the hops, light to moderate dried leaves for the yeast, with cooked cherry, red wine, and a hint of vinegar in the background. Head is large, frothy, slightly off-white, with excellent lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is dark rusty brown. Flavor starts faintly sweet and moderately to heavily acidic, then finishes moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is light to medium, a little slick, with a lively to fizzy carbonation and a dry and very tart finish. This is a superb Sour Brown Ale. For me, a benchmark for all others.
Wygląda mało zachęcająco, mega błotniście, na plus w miarę jednolite to zmętnienie, no ale wyglądu praktycznie nie biorę pod uwagę przy wystawianiu oceny. Mocno wiśniowy aromat, złagodzony słodką wanilią, ocet i dębina na dalszym planie, co w porównaniu do flandersów mi się bardzo spodobało. Owoce wyszły tu dość naturalnie, tak kompotowo wręcz, bardzo dobre, aczkolwiek bez szału.
Barwa rubinowa, piana mała.
Aromat pestkowy, wiśniowy, czereśniowy, lekko dziki, waniliowy, stajenny.
W smaku winne, wiśniowe, lekko waniliowe, funky i posmaki drewniane. Dość słodowe z mocnym kwaśnym akcentem. Alko idealnie ukryte.

Cherries, red wine, dried fruits, wood, some vanilla and vinegar in nose. Pours murky brown-ish with poor white head. Taste is sour with cherry, red wine, forest fruits, wood, vinegar, funk and vanilla. Finish is long, tart, cherry-like, average to soft carbonation, well hidden alcohol. Overall beautiful beer.
Sampled on draft at 3 Rivers this beer poured a dark brown color with a large creamy beige head that left good lacing. The aroma was sour and woody with red wine and soy sauce. The flavor was very sour with notes of wood, red wine vinegar and soy sauce. Long finish. Medium body.
Miedzianoczerwona barwa, piwo bez piany. Pachnie pięknie, kwasem bez octu i raczej bez funky, z dużą domieszką wiśni. Smak o jednoznacznie kwaskowym profilu, bez udziwnień i kompromisów, także bez wad. Po prostu kwas w punkt. Lost Abbey nie zawodzi, może jedynie beczki nieco za mało.
Pours an slmost clear crimson brown. Aroma has pinot like qualities. Cherry aroma, Vanilla and oak, vinegar and raisins. Taste is sharp and mineral, acidic and yet sweet with cherry fruit coming through big time. Great ballance of flavours. Mild carbonation. Lightbto medium oily mouthfeel. Long mineral and sweet aftertaste. Taaark Fredrik!
Bottle from Hop Burns & Black. Opaque very dark brown, white head. Nose is cherry, sherberty sugar, tart and sour, balslamic vinegar, raspberry, aged oak. Taste is tart, sour, fruity cherry, balslamic vinegar, raspberry, funky. Super rounded cherry sour beer. Stunning.
Taster at Trail's End. Pours an opaque brown color, with a big, foamy, tan head. The aroma is tart cherries, brown sugar, anise, lime peel, allspice, and light yogurt. Gets deeper as it warms, with layers of fruit and malt character. Perfectly balanced sour and sweet flavors. Medium body, with a sharp, malty feeling, and a surprisingly clean finish. This is a superb sour. Great balance and complexity.
Bottle from the Confessional in Cardiff by the sea. Somewhat murky brown, no bubbles. Aroma of oak wood, a little funky, raisins, not so strong. A bit tart at first, drying in the mouth, really delicious. Long tartness all over your mouth remains. One of the best sour / flemish browns ive ever had. Really complex woody, sour, cherry, winey and as it opens up I think the bourbon barrel gives some caramel as well. Fantastic.

Aromat intensywny zdominowany wiśniami, czereśniami, z nutką pestkowej słodkiej wanilii. Dzika strona wyraźna, w postaci, stajni, skisłego siana, ale także skóry, nuty octowe w tle.
W smaku mocno owocowe, ale też kwaśne, z mocno wyczuwalnym octem. Wiśnie i nuty dzikie, mocno wytrawne, z mało zaznaczoną stroną słodową. Finisz cierpki, octowy, drapiący gardło.
Bottled, enormous thanks Vran! Randomly stumbled on a tasting, got a glass of this in my hands. :D Dark brown-black body. The aroma is interesting, soft maltiness, mead-like notes too, vague cherry, maybe a tart touch, vague acetone-like subtle note that throws me off a little. The taste immediately redeems it, full soft maltiness, dry cherry notes, light tartness. Classy all in all, excellent beer, that bar a single off-key note in the aroma truly confirms its reputation as a world classic. Hats off!
Great combination of quadruple with flanders. Quite sweet as for it's style but it's awesome. I loved it.
Tons of red fruits, pits, wilde, wine, vanilla, wood, basement, almonds. Sour, very dry, tart.
Aromat: kompleksowy, mocny, bogaty, cierpki, świeże wiśnie, łagodne nuty stajenne, czerwone, wytrawne wino. Beczka po bourbonie w tle, jako taki szlachetny aromat mocniejszego alkoholu.
Wygląd: ciemnomiedziane, czyste, piana mała, jasnokremowa i szybka zanika prawie do zera.
Smak: przyjemnie cierpkie, bez żadnego octu i nadkwasoty, to już duży plus na dzień dobry. Świeże i soczyste wiśnie, czerwone wytrawne wino, taniny, nuty drzewne, bourbon od beczki przykryty wiśniami, zlewa się z tłem. Stajenne i skórzane dzikie klimaty bardzo subtelne i delikatne, podkreślają swoim umiarkowaniem delikatność piwa. To co mnie bardzo pozytywnie zaskoczyło to dużo lekkiej, świeżej owocowej słodyczy, takiej będącej połączeniem najsłodszych soczystych dojrzałych wiśni oraz rodzynek i innych słodkich, suszonych owoców. Piwo jest niesamowicie kompleksowe, złożone i wielowymiarowe. Pijalność ogromna.
Odczucie: ciała sporo, wysycenie niskie, finisz cierpki, ułożone niesamowicie, na butelce było info że jest 12,5 %alkoholu. Nie dałbym więcej niż 5-6 %.
Całość: drugie najlepsze obok De Struise Aardnon/Earthnun czerwone kwaśne piwo jakie w życiu piłem. Balans, ułożenie, kompleksowość doskonałe, rewelacyjna relacja słodyczy z cierpkością, zdradziecko pijalne, niewiarygodne że jest tam powyżej 10% alkoholu. Najlepsze świeże i soczyste wiśnie jakie spotkałem do tej pory w piwie. Dobre efekty od beczek. Bardzo dobre piwo, szkoda tylko że takie drogie. 8/4/9/5/18
Feria smaków, od winnych i burbonowych smaków, poprzez klasyczne bretty, mocną wiśniową owocowość na czekoladzie i cytrusach kończąc. Wszystko mega dograne, mega pijalne. Wspaniałe, Wielkie piwo !
