Lost Coast Pale Ale

Lost Coast Pale Ale

This highly hopped California style Pale Ale showcases the brewer’s art of balancing malt and hop characteristics. A generous addition of Munich malts balances the bittering from Chinook hops, and Cascade hops round out the flavor profile.

2.8 Pint at brewery. Light hoppy aroma and beautiful copper color. The palate was rough and the taste was not great. I will not order this beer again.
3.6 Good beer. Sweet malts to start with and finishes like it’s aroma of citrus hops.
3.4 Sample at the brewpub on 8/5/10. Clear yellow/gold pour with a fluffy white head. Nice hoppy aroma with some spiciness, grass and a bit of citrus. Spicy hop flavor with a bit of malt and a chalky cascade finish.
3.4 Pours a nice orangish color. Aroma is floral hops, some caramel, and a hint of vegtables. Flavor of a classic pale, nice hop flavor.
2.9 Poured from a bomber purchased @BevMo in SF. The price was marked down, so they wanted to move this product. Pours nicely with good color and head as mentioned by other reviewers. A decent example of the style, but not in the top half of my list. I visited the Lost Coast pub in Eureka several years ago and I look forward to trying this and other brews at the source in the near future. Nice Humbolt artwork on the label.
3.4 Thanks Hayduke! This beer pours a hazy golden hue with an uneven fluffy white head that has excellent retention. There isn’t a big aroma but it is grainy. Hops lead the flavor with grapefruit along with honey and sweeter passion fruit. Honey and pepper can be tasted. As the beer warms the hops are more pronounced in the aroma enhancing their impact on the flavor. Grass is also in the finish. A nice and well balanced beer.
3.0 Tap @ Lost Coast. Pours golden, almost lager looking. Light aroma of lemony malts and light citrus. Flavor is fairly malty all the way through the thinner body, Chinook creeps through a bit before ending if somewhat of a watery finish. Not the best, but not a pour out.
3.1 Bomber poured a clear golden amber with a lasting off white head. Aromas of biscuit, citrus and earthiness. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of biscuit earthiness and light citrus with a crisp lightly bitter finish.
3.0 ~Pours light golden with creamy white head. ~Sweet malt and light citrus hop scent. ~Mild flavor of hops and malts. ~Medium feel, bitter finish. ~Drinkable, just a bit plain.
3.3 Draft @ Lost Coast. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. Has a malty hoppy citrus aroma. Slightly sweetish fruity bitter hoppy citrus flavor. Has a sweetish fruity hoppy finish with some bitterness in the aftertaste.
3.3 Bottle from Ledgers. We’ve had this one for a while ~4 months. Probably not the best idea for a pale, but the beer fridge has been full for a while. Very nice palate, even hop flavor, and nicely balanced. I liked it and may buy again in a summer month.
3.2 Bottle from Ledgers in Berkeley, CA. Poured a golden color with a white head. Tasted of mild citrus hops with a slight floral finish. Very drinkable beer.
3.4 Pours a clear golden color with a small, white head. The aroma is a nice balance between the hops and malts. Medium body with medium carbonation, the flavor is nicely balanced up front, with a decent hop finish that has a touch of sweetness.
3.2 Tasted @ the Loast Coast Brewery in Eureka. Orange/golden colored brew. Citric, hoppy and grassy.
3.2 Bomber. Pours a hazy gold with small white head. Nose is Malt mainly with some hop. Palate is light citrus hops upfront with a sweet background, finishing with a light lingering pine. Medium mouth feel with decent lacing.
3.3 Bomber. Pours a hazy straw color with a small white head. Honey and citrus aroma. Medium body but lots of citrus--orange and lemon--and slightly grassy hop flavor; a short floral finish. A refreshing pale ale.
3.6 Pours light orange, puffy white head. Slightly sweet, piney hops. Nice body. Solid pale.
3.8 strong earthy solid malt backbone makes this a great pale. they’re usually junior ipa’s but this is balanced, chewy, floral and tasty
3.1 22 oz bomber bottle-pours a light orange hue with nice white head with good lacing. Citrus hop aroma-grapefruit, oranges and tangy notes. Flavors are pretty tame, but they are not bad. Short finish. pretty average pale other than the appearance.
3.1 22 oz. bottle. Pours a light golden with a small, white head. Aroma of honey, herbal tea, and citrus hops. Body was nice, but a bit thin. Mouthfeel of toast with a slight hop bitterness at the end. Decent beer, but would like more hops in the profile.
3.4 Pours a light golden from bomber. Aroma of some hops, caramel, malts. Flavour is full bodied, smooth beer. Pines, malts and hops seem very well balanced against one another. Would love to try it on tap. Lovely session beer.
3.7 10-7-07 (bottle shared from lb4lb courtesy of fordest). Clean crisp hop aroma with no overpowering soap smell. Floral hops that remind me of springtime. Amber color with foamy head. Nice clean, slightly watery taste. Metallic in the finish - the main and biggest downside of this beer. However, I love the brewery and would give it another shot in a heartbeat.
2.7 Bottle courtesy of Fordest Light amber color with a lasting offwhite head. Smell is very lightly hopped, with some mild caramel in there tool. A bit more sweetness than hops in the nose but the taste is in reverse with more hops up front and sweetness in the finish. Ends with a big metallic, and oxidized taste, i believe. Kind of like rust. Finish is unpleasant and perhaps its just not quite fresh. My favorite style, and my definite least favorite from the brewery, when everything else of theirs was pretty good.
3.4 a very nice, easy drinking beer. may be more of an amber than pale ale. seemed more malt driven than hoppy, but I’m not complaining. thanks to Saarlander for the bomber.
3.4 Bottle Pours a mostly clear light orange amber. Small off white head. Decent hop aroma and a modest malt character. Flavor was mostly malts with just enough hops to nearly balance. Nice medium weight Pale ale. Tasty.
3.4 22 oz bottle purchased at John’s Grocery in Iowa City. Poured a clear light orange color. Head was thick and white with good retention. There was only a bit of lace on the glass at the end. Pleasant aroma of light grapefruity hops and malty caramel. Slightly sweet without any significant hop bitterness. Tasted of caramel and flowery hops. Simple, but well done. Very drinkable.
3.4 deep gold with a thin sandy head. honey pine orange aroma with some lemon. medium to light thick body. very floral and a good pine resin taste, with some citrus, and a good bitterness
3.4 Bottle. Floral aroma of lychee and grapefruit with hop dust. Pale orange with no carbonation but a creamy rich lacing off-white head. Taste is immediately bitter and crisp, drenched in hops but amazingly drinkable.. Medium body yields a dry biscuity aftertaste with medium lingering bitterness. Balanced and vaguely exotic, with light citrus. Boy, this one activates the salivary glands. Nice quaffer!
3.3 The Dan Journal #23. Tasted 5/30/06. 22oz bomber. Hazy and golden yellow. White head. Grainy and maple aromas. Bready. Mild and easy. Smooth, but nothing special. Although the malt kick is really nice.
3.1 A session beer, and that is ok. Light hop aroma and a medium palate. Flavor is mild, and combines medium sweet malt and gentle hop bitterness. Very easy to drink.
