3.8 Chocolade bruine kleur met een goede kraag. Ruikt zoetig, mout, chocolade, vanille, herfstfruit. Smaakt smaakt lekker vanille, chocolade, zacht.
3.6 355 ml bottle. Pours hazy dark brown color with a large off-white head. Caramel on the nose, malts, subtle nutty notes, mild hops and ripe fruits. Flavor is very bready, dark malts, subtle caramel sweetness with molasses and strong bitterness. Full-bodied, strong carbonation, slightly sweet finish. Has almost some Doppelbock-esque qualities. Not bad. 4424
3.3 Bottle at home. Aroma is malt, caramel, dark bread, some nuttiness, chocolate, toffee, mild dark fruits, berries, some liquorice, touch of spices and some light hoppy notes in the finish. Flavour is above medium sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. Enjoyable malty ’winter warmer’.
3.5 Aroma: Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel and nuts. Appearance: Turbid/opaque ruby/brown beer with heavy yeast and with a slight off-white/beige head. Taste/Palate: Medium sweet with malts, caramel and nuts. Overall: This beer is rather intense, but misses any other flavour than the caramel and nuts. It is a one trick pony and does the trick decent enough.
2.9 bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Aroma of caramel malt. Clear dark mahogany brown color, two-finger beige head that slowly drops, streaks of lace. Taste is malt and light spice, as one might expect in a Winter Ale, but following a fizzy swallow, harsh hops, almost rye flavored, crash in for an unusual malt and hop fight. The two sides can find no agreement. Could be better.
3.4 12oz bottle into a Corsendonk glass on 20th May 2016 while on holiday in California. Dirty, murky brown body, scummy off-white wisp and collar, no lacing. Chocolate front in the nose and taste, mild spice hints in both the aroma and flavours too. Better than it looked.
3.3 Bottle. Pours brown. Aroma and taste are light chocolate roasted malts, some spices.
3.3 Tasted @ monthly 1st Wednesday tasting @ brewpub De Molen. Hazy brown pour, thin off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts, licorice, caramel, toffee and slightly spicy. Flavor is quite bitter, spicy malts and with a decent body.
3.4 35 cl bottle. Very dark ruby-brown pour with a thin beige head. Smells like dried fruit, sugar and metal. Tastes like caramel, dried fruit, milk chocolate. Soft mouthfeel with a low carbonation.
3.6 355ml bottle at Beer Station, Xiamen. Pours clear dark brown with a thin off white head. Aroma of hops, cola and malt. Bittersweet finish. Hidden alcohol.
3.3 sample from small bottle, deep amber brown colour with an off head. nose is sweet chocolate, caramel, and slight nuts, sticky syrup mouthfeel. slight spices, ok.
3.1 Bottle from Grocery Outlet. Average brown ale, but not even up to the standards of their Downtown Brown, so what’s the point? Spicy, only in the faintest sense. Dull pour, slightest elements of chocolate, cinnamon and assorted other "winter" spices.
3.1 Murky dark brown with a medium tan head that goes away quickly. Nuttty, chocolate, a bit of spice. A bit more carbonation than I’d expect. It’s pretty decent for someone who’s not a fan of the style.
3.3 Bottle pour to cup. Hazelnut, nutmeg. Sweet malt focus, syrup, nutmeg, brown sugar, cola, bittersweet finish.
3.4 Bottle. Pours hazy hazel, small beige head, some lacing. Aroma is chocolate, roast, hints of spice. Flavor is medium sweet, very light bitter, cocoa, malty, bread. Medium body.
3.4 Bottle. Brown with tan head. Aroma has roasted malt and a touch of whiskey. Taste is burned sugar and malt. Medium carbonation
3.5 Deep dark brown, nice beige head. Bitter chocolate, licorice. Roast. Little fruity. Bit of spiciness. A pretty ’strong’ Characterful brown ale.
3.7 Aroma is caramel, clove, honey, fig cream and slight chocolate. Taste is roasted malts, caramel, light dark fruits and yeast. Medium mouth feel that is creamy with a little bit of clove and light tanin bitterness on the tip. Appearance is a clear amber with a medium pearl head that retains well.
3.0 At cellar temperature and into a snifter. Cola brown and bright with little head retention. Nose is subtle but hints at gooey chocolate ganache, rum and raisin icecream, hazelnut liqueur offering a boozy spice, and a touch of red timber. Quite nutty on the palate with a malty and dry, scorched wood finish. Hazelnut dominates upfront. There is chocolate in there but the nuttiness reigns supreme. Drinks really easily. No alcohol shows which is a shame. Body is light to medium light with soft carbonation. Sweetness does build but the palate is still left parched. Light spice of hop late. Quaffable but doesn’t excite or inspire. (12fl. Oz, no date stamp, Int’l Beer Shop, Leederville)
3.3 Pours a clear dark reddish-brown with a small creamy light-brown head. The aroma is all nuts and malt-- a typical Brown Ale. Flavour of malt, hops, chocolate and nuts is a little too mild. Medium bodied.
3.3 12 oz. bottle at home from notes. Pours a hazy reddish brown color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have some roasted malts, a decent shot of chocolate, spicy hop character, some earthy notes, body is lighter and the mouthfeel is thin and watery. OK brown ale.
3.7 Pours a dark brown color with a good tan head. Aroma is caramel, roasted malt. Flavor is caramel, a hint of chocolate, and some dark fruit. Full rich and creamy. Mild hop presence rounds this beer out nicely.
3.5 Bready, malty and thick. I taste a hint of chocolate but the caramel shines through the most. Little hop presence, malt aroma.
3.8 Bottle at Taska Gau, Ponce. Dark opaque color, small beige head. Licorice, dark bread, soya sauce in the nose. Full-bodied. Dark bread, molasses, alcohol, hops. Very tasty winter warmer!
3.7 Pours a caramel brown color with a khaki head. Caramel, toffee, toast, malt and light hop aroma. Caramel, chocolate, toffee, malt, toast and earthy hop flavors. Medium full body and average carbonation. Chocolate and caramel finish.
3.3 12oz bottle picked up at Total Wine Pours clear dark amber with a small beige head, some lacing. Aroma is sweet malts, caramel and chocolate. Flavors or toasted malts, chocolate, caramel with a nice spicy finish A decent Brown ale.
3.9 Slightly sweet caramel aroma. Dark amber beer with a thin head. Tastes like it smells.
3.9 12oz bottle. Clear copper-amber, small tan head. Sweet chocolate malt aroma. Flavour is quite light, alcohol is well hiddenfor 8%.
3.8 12 ounce bottle. Mahogany color topped with a moderate creamy beige head. Faint roasted malt nose. Hints of burnt caramel and toffee. Sweet roasted malt flavor is pleasant and spicy with cocoa and cinnamon-like notes. Spruce-like hops in midtaste balance this nicely. Slightly warming though the 8% alcohol is well hidden.
2.6 More of a porter style than ale. Not my cup of tea but it has nice flavor. I would recommend this but wouldn't have this again
