Lucifer (...-2008)

Lucifer (...-2008)

A Belgian golden ale. On the nose it is lightly hoppy and yeastily spicy, with faint caramelly malt notes and a touch of citrusy and estery fruit. The head tastes extremely bitter, as is often the case with this style. Surprisingly fruity, but with a strong hoppy bitterness. There is a warming, malty, vanilla quality to it, which develops into an alcohol kick towards the end. Secondary fermentation in the bottle.

4.3 Mmm, delicious. Effervescent, crisp, and dry. Nice amount of alcohol with a distinct and somewhat unique blend of the usual Belgian spices.
3.4 33cl bottle at BXL Zoute inNYC. Pours cloudy hazy orange with medium white head and lots of lacing. Alcohol and hops come through with some citrus aroma. A pleasant beer.
2.8 Little disappointing. Not a bad Belgian but nothing special. Slightly fruit and Spicey. Some lemon. Yeast, bread. Ok
4.0 Rating the 2012 batch from Het Snker. Pours with a towering head, and nice golden color (tulip glass). Closely resembles a Duvel in taste and body. Sought this one out and was rewarded with a nice drink!
2.5 Bottle. Light gold with thick white head. Spicy head. Hazy. Long lasting head. Heavily carbed. Has some potential. Not an everyday beer but glad I tried it.
2.6 From BA: Brown squatty 33cl bottle, best before 06/2010, drank on 26th Oct 2007. My bottle says it is brewed by a Liefmans Brewery. Poured into a Leffe glass it came out a golden clear yellow and a large white head sat on tap, sadly the head shrank away very swiftly. I got carbolic soap mixed in with the yeast when I put my nose to it, not a good aroma to me. Full on alcohol taste and more lagerish than a normal Belgian Ale. The aftertaste was thin although the alcohol does linger. A little disappointed with this beer, I was expecting more flavour and more umph.
4.4 earthy, citrus, cereal, butterscotch, soy sauce, vanilla, sparkling, orange, minimal head, rocky head, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, heavily sour, salty, full body, thin feel, average carbonation,
3.8 Reviewed from notes (2007). Crisp golden color with a fading frothy head. Nose is citrus sweetness with a hint of spice. A dry floral/fruity flavor is pervasive throughout, the spice aroma makes itself known in taste toward the end. Crisp finish, soft and smooth body. Easy to consume.
2.8 Pour hazy yellow color with a thick growing head. Flavor is sweet and fruity, with vanilla and apple tones. Not as intense as expected.
3.2 Bottle from Berts Bierhuis in Utrecht, Holland. Light hazy golden colour with a white head. Fruity winish nose. Sweet and fruity flavour with some spicy notes
3.8 So I have here a long defunct product which was the last bottle at Marty’s in Newton. Didn’t realize at the time but the fine print on the cap says October 2008. No matter this type of beer doesn’t necessarily skunk...it only becomes more evil. Looks like a Leffe or Affligem, only more gold than blond. Aroma by now is some fruit and a whole lot of booze, sort of like a a white wine, only yeastier. Starts bitter and spicy and ends with a cream soda flush. Stings the palate and sticks around for a few seconds after. Very unique. Now I feel like I’ve destroyed a historic artifact. Hopefully my review will not be the last and someone has a large cellar.
3.6 Originally rated March 2006. The Power of Christ Compels You !! Yes, this is a devil of a beer, as when I turned it a few times (very slowly) to get the sediments flowing, it created shitloads of pressure and the brew wound up all over in my room. Gives a big fat white foamy head with long retention. The lacing left is also quite good. Hazy pale yellow in colour with lots of flaky sediments all over. The nose is mostly a mild wave of Belgian yeast with some spices, like corriander. The strong yeast is there at first, then goes to a slight alcohol finish, to then end in an apple aftertaste. Best before date is May 2008 and listed as a 8.5% on the AVB. Resembles to Duvel, but not as good.
3.8 330ml squat bottle. Aroma is candy and grains. Almost a caramel corn smell. Pours very attractive. Rich gold with big white heat that quickly dissipates to a thin ring. Taste is full with cereal and candy. This bottle is nearly 2 years old, so I feel the flavors have mixed and mellowed into this wonderful subdued mix. I will have to try a new bottle to see if that theory is correct.
4.0 Schöne weiße und feinporige Schaumkrone. Farblich bernsteinmäßig. Fruchtige und malzige Düfte, etwas alkoholisch. Antrunk perlig.
Test vom 1.8.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 14,11,10,7,10,11 - 10,50
3.5 Much like Duvel; with the exception of lots of floaters and smaller head. Crisp and dry with Rye and wheat aromas. Good brew but would rather have a Duvel or La Fin Du Monde.
3.8 on draft. Very nice belgian strong. Poured yellow with a crazy frothy white head. it was a treat to have this. A stong beer and it tasted like it.
3.2 Wow. Surpisingly brown beer. Very fresh. it’s like you first beer on the first hot day of the year. grass, cheese, banana, pale, golden, clear, white foam, medium sweetness, lightly sour, light body, thin feel, average carbonation,
3.5 19th October 2007 Warning! Early amateur rating! Draft at the Brew Wharf mini beer festival. Fruity with caramel and toffee notes. Complex and tasty.
3.2 330ml bottle (Delirium Cafe, Brussels) BB2010-12, drunk 2011-01 5 Not much aroma, only slightly sweet light berries. 3 cloudy orange with sinky bits, small head. Delirium barman poured rather than us, grrr... 6 Gentle light grains, milky, absolutely no hint of alcohol, and it doesn’t taste like a big beer at all. Has some of the sweetness of fresh almonds. 4 Pleasant palate before you get to the sludge at the bottom (which squicks me a bit), good level of carbonation. 14 Aged very well, massively mellow and soft. Shame that it’s lacking some balls in the aroma department. Dunno if the new moortgat Lucifer will compare well to this, I hope so.
3.1 (33ml bottle). When i think of beer and satan then ovbiously Duvel is sitting on my shoulder making me drink . This other satantic beer looks promising -big creamy head above a yeasty , murky , honey coloured liquid....nose is florals .. fruit esters. hay. honey . some rich malts. Its a bit shallow and lifeless to drink . Lotta yeast bite ..raw alcohol and flabby malt sweetness. Like Duvel without the soul and quality.
3.2 Pours a light golden color with a HUGE frothy thick white head. The aroma is a light malt with banana and citrus notes. Lacing stains the glass on this one. The taste is honey and a sweet vanilla finish. A well done belgian.
3.2 Shared this one w/SkyCop32. Pours a medium golden yellowish color. Aromas of fruit, yeast and some pepper. Flavors are sour, yeasty, and a touch of sweetness at the finish.
3.8 2005 bottle from Willow Bend Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a hazy golden yellow color with massive three finger pillowy white head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of candy sugar, caramel, toffee, fresh apple, some hints of light spice and yeast. Flavor is about the same with a touch of oxidation--but not bad for a beer that is nearly 5 years old. Medium body with a sweet and malty finish. Nice ale that has aged well.
3.8 Gold pour. Super malty aroma with some alcohol and yeast. Flavor is yeasty and fruity. warming as it goes down. Fruity and good.
3.3 Golden sleightly hazy look with a foamy white head. Aroma is spicy with some yeasty fruit notes and some citrus. Flavor is very playin, fruity sweet and alchoholic with s huge carbonation. Good but standart.
1.6 This is what a Budweiser/Miller/Coors would taste like if it had 8% alcohol.
3.3 Yeasty with a citrus undertone aroma. Yellow gold colour, with some lacing. Spicy citrus flavour. A nice beer!
3.1 Had typical Belgian strong ale characteristics but just not right on mark. I was a little disappointed by this baby.
