Lupulus Hibernatus

Lupulus Hibernatus

Lupulus Hibernatus is black-coloured beer, strong (9°), brewed with malted barley (“pilsen” type) and torrefied barley. The hops used are coming from Slovenia. At the end of the boiling, the brewer add a bit of cinnamon. This combination with the torrefied barley gives the Hibernatus a powerful taste. The after-taste is at the same time bitter and sweet, and finishes on a light coffee touch.

4.1 Ambrée
4.1 Appearance: cloudy deep brown, large beige creamy head of perfect retention. Aroma and taste: dark malt, prunes, dates, nice Belgian yeast, some hop. Light sweet and bitter. Mouth feel: medium to full body, appropriate carbonation. Overall: nice stuff.
3.8 Barwa: ciemny brąz, lekki gushing w butelce, piana szybko zanika. Zapach: owocowy, słodowy, trochę estrów, suszone owoce, chmielu nie czuć. Smak: czuć moc alkoholu, lekko słodkawe, goryczka umiarkowana, ale wyraźna.
3.3 Last one from reserves... Smell- weak to medium, malt, caramel, Belgian yeast. Foam- malt, Belgian yeast, caramel, bitter tones. Head is large, medium-dark brown color. Appearance - generic dark blue bottle cap, somewhat simple label, but I like it. Clear, dark ruby color. From - pint Taste - malty, Belgian yeast, caramel, weak hops, weak bitter tones, bit herbal. Overall OK Belgian.
3.7 Bevuta alla spina al Whishing Well. Ottima birra scura. Corposa e piacevole.
4.2 Bottle 33cl. @home poured into a tulip glass. Deep dark brown colour, good beige to tannish head, good retention, good lacing. Complex aroma, roasted malts, dark caramel, dried dark fruits, cocoa powder, coffee, liquorice, spicy notes. Taste medium sweet and below medium bitter, roasted malts, dark fruits, toffee, liquorice, spicy notes, touch of umami (!), alcohol notes. Full-bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation, long sweetbitter aftertaste, fruity backbone, roasty notes, complex and elegant brew, excellent, like the label says – despite being misspelled – just fabulus!
3.9 # 2750; 2/2022. Brow sugar, fores honey, caramel, raisin aroma. Brown body; persistant tany head. Brown sugar, dark fruits, alcohol warmth, cocoa. Tasty strong ale. 0,7 l, bottle, supermarket, Bastogne (Luxembourg, Belgium).
3.7 Fles thuis geprobeerd.
4.2 Dark, slightly reddish pour with aromas of chocolate and red berries, Taste is complex with hocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, rye, roasted coffee, hints of berries. A pleasant aftertaste, slightly bitter with hints of berries and whisky-like finish. Good to enjoy on a winter evening - take your time for it.
3.4 Aroma: Malt, brown sugar and caramel with floral notes. Flavour: Malty and sugary sweet with burnt caramel and floral notes. Aftertaste is malty sweet and burnt caramel. Colour: Reddish dark brown with an offwhite head. From: Bottle @ BilligSpecialØl webshop.
3.6 Pours dark brown, almost black with beige head. Subtle nose on sweet roasted malts. Medium to full creamy mouthfeel on roasted malts, tiny bitter with some sweetness. Nice balance. Not bad at all.
4.0 Bottled 0,33L. Dark brown/reddish color, much creamy and foamy beige head of long resistance. Aroma is moderate yeasty with notes of cellar, resin, aged and dried red fruits, stum, alcohol, grapes. Pleasant fraught and smooth palate, intence notes of aged red fruits, riped and moisted grapes, dark matl, caramel, chocolate, yeast.
Carbonatation moyenne. Alcool parfaitement intégré, gourmandise et buvabilité.
3.6 Bottle 33 cl, poured into a Jopen tasting glass. Pours a very dark murky brown with a medium to big white head and an aroma of toffee, sweet malts, aluminium, booze, plums, brown sugar and dried fruits. The tast is sweet with a full body, fizzy carbonation and a medium lasting malty finish
3.6 Wel te doen voor af en toe.
3.3 A bit oxidized and ashy. The underlying seems good but it is questionable handled. Gollem raamsteeg ams
3.4 0.75 l bottle shared with prof. Bekić and PBF_pivica. Dark brown, small beige head. Dark cherry, dark caramel, metal, alcohol. Molasses, brown sugar, dried fruit. Quite complex. Hints of spices. The taste is metallic, tart, dry, roasted malts. Strong. Medium body. Abrupt finish.
3.8 Thin head, dark colour, aromas of stone fruits and dark sugars, seasonal style with clear notes of alcohol.
3.4 33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Kulenborgse Bierhandel. Dark brown with a beige head. Dark caramel with spicy dark fruits. Sweet taste with a light sour note, long sweet to low-bitter finish.
3.8 Bottle, 0.5l. Murky, muddy brown pour, two finger frothy brown head. Average retention, medium lasting head that leaves slight lacing on the glass. Nice on the nose, toasty, wood notes, dark fruits in the background. Medium body, lively carbonation. Average mouthfeel and texture, soft, slightly fizzy, mild chewiness. Sweet malty taste with subtle bitter roast. Aroma of toasted caramel, roasted dark malts. Nuts, bready. Dried fruiits in the background, brown sugar. Lingering alcohol that slowly builds up, nicely warming and slightly dry. Long lasting finish, roasty, light boozy, lingering bitterness and subtle coffee notes. Pretty good ale.
3.5 Bottle @Bir&Fud Bottega (Rome). Corpo medio-alto, carbonazione media. Un po' sgraziata.
3.7 33cl bottle thanks to @poech73 and EuroSanta 2020. Pours black with big beige head. Aroma has toasted malts and alcohol. Taste is balanced, not too sweet and still bitter with warming aftertaste. Very nice!
3.9 Bottle online from Beerhouseshop.be. Pours a very dark brown almost black colour with a large thick creamy beige head. Faint aromas of dry dark fruits, caramel and roasted malts. Taste has more dry dark fruits, caramel, roasted malts, salt, a little liquorice and a big roasty bitterness on the finish. Just a hint of burnt sugar. Full body, fair carbonation and a smooth slightly oily mouthfeel. Nice one. Re-tasting: 12/01/2023: Detecting plums also this time round and again notable saltiness. More caramel, dry dark fruits, roasted malts and a touch of liquorice. Not overly sweet and sickly as some of these Christmas beers tend to be. All in all it is a very nice beer. Upped my rating from 3.8 to 3.9.
3.9 Bottle 75 cl. Marrone scuro velato schiuma beige fine poco persistente. Finale luppolato erbaceo. Corpo medio, carbonatazione bassa, calda. Equilibrata e armonica.
3.4 pitch black, persistent foamy head, slightly off colour. Smell is spicy salty liquorice, sourwood, toffee, apple, pear. Taste is bitter astringent with a long clean finish.
