MacTarnahan's Amber Ale (Macs Ale)

MacTarnahan's Amber Ale (Macs Ale)

Rich, amber hue and full-bodied flavor begin with roasted, domestic caramel malt. It’s sweetness is then tempered with genuine Cascade hops, which are added again at the end of the boil for a distinctive, citric-floral aroma.

2.9 On tap at Brewster’s in Calgary it is avclrar golden color with a slight head. The aroroma is malty with the taste of slightly bitter grain that is thin
2.9 Bottle, as "Portland Imperial Mac’s". Pours a clear amber color with a small white head on it. Nose is a bit bready with a fair amount of caramel in it. Taste is a bit sweet and pleasantly effervescent (after drinking some sake), with a slightly bitter backbone.
3.2 Bottle in Portland, or. Hop aroma with notes of caramel malt sweetness. Pours caramel colored with a thin off white head and pretty good lacing. Good caramel malt flavors and very smooth to start. Follows with a dry, slightly bitter finish. Nice, refreshing amber.
3.4 Dark color large head. Charred malt and hops. Smooth, malt, hops and finishes slightly sour with some bitterness. Good beer
3.2 Rich copper color with a thick head. I didn’t pick up much on the aroma, light floral hop notes. Taste was not overly hopped and definitely not too sweet but a bit thin, watery. Unfortunately, it just across as mediocre at best. Not a real standout in aroma or taste. Incredible lace that absolutely decorated the glass. Mouthfeel was average, light body. No horrible aftertaste but also nothing that pulls you back for another sip. The low abv and average character make it a sessionable contender but not on a regular basis.
2.0 Straight from bottle... Aroma of malt slight spices, taste slightly strong carbonation with a short after taste not bad. Decent brew but I find it nothing special.
3.7 A little more depth than your average amber - has some hop to it. Basic, clean and easy.
3.6 IBU 32. Easy going, drinkable, mellow amber. Better, richer flavor than Alaskan Amber. Low abv. Smooth. Maybe too tame. But enjoyable
2.7 Bottle from Albertson’s. Bland and uninteresting. Amber in color with short, dull head. Light malty aroma. Taste is weak caramel malt with a short hops bite and very short finish. Not much remains on the palate. Mouthfeel edges on watery. Pass on this one.
3.3 Bottle: Poured a Copper orange with an off white head. Aroma is soft hops and malts. Taste is nice caramel malt with a hint of hops to set it off.
3.7 Clear brown with a thick head. Rye bread aroma. Flavor is very mild. This is a good, clean tasting ale, but nothing to write home about.
3.1 Bottle. Taste is rye, bitter lemon peel, grain and some hops. Low abv makes for an easy drinking beer.
2.2 On tap at Seattle. Disappointing Amber Ale... Boring taste and faint aroma
3.1 Golden orange in color... Aroma and flavr of caramel malts, faint notes of light hops on the palate... Nothing remarkable
3.5 Not a bad amber. Its hard for an amber, I think, to really differentiate itself, especially when compared to other styles. This one isn’t mind blowing, buts a solid outing. Caramel, some grass and floral notes, and a bready. toffee flavor.
3.3 Amber in color, with a hoppy, honeyed aroma, and biscuity, yet watery flavor.
3.3 On draught at Portland City Grill. Definitive NW amber ale. Smooth malt flavor and not-too-strong hop aftertaste.
3.3 Pours an amber color with a thick white head that leaves good lacing. Smells of citrus, floral and caramel. Tastes of caramel and light malt and is a little hoppier than most amber ales. Mouthfeel is creamy with great carbonation. Overall this is a pretty good amber ale for the price.
2.3 Really light for a red ale, hoppy and lightly fruited, zero nose but smooth. Get a pitcher of this in Portland, other than that don’t waste your time.
2.1 Light aroma, not distinctive. Cloudy brown appearance. Watery hops taste, but goes does easy.
2.5 355ml bottle. Pours a medium amber, with a white head. Malty aroma, slightly grainy, caramel, toffee, hops. Dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2. Malty taste, caramel, toffee, hops, slightly grainy, some cardboard in the background. Nothing rememberable. (2012-05-25)
3.1 355ml bottle pours a pale amber color with a finger of creamy off-white head that settles down to leave some nice soapy lacing on the glass. Aroma is light roasted malts and caramel with citrus hops. Taste is a caramel malty sweetness with some light roasted malt bitterness and a bold citrus hoppy finish. Medium body and light carbonation. A tasty amber ale that was truly appreciated.
3.1 bottle. average amber ale in my opinion. nothing stands out. drinkable but not memorable.
2.5 I have a pint bottle of this brew, it contains 5.1% alcohol for those interested. I’m surprised there aren’t more ratings (as of now I am the third), because I see this stuff all over the place here in the Pacific Northwest. Well the bottle says its an Amber, and this website says its an Irish Ale, and my taste buds tell me it’s an IPA. What to do? I’ll rate it according to my palate, and my tongue, and my belly which tells me there are much better beers in this world. Earlier Rating: 9/10/2011 Total Score: 2.6 Not bad at all. I had a glass of this at Mac’s bar, which has no relation to this beer. New Rating Feb. 5th, 2013. Still about the same as before. Hoppy. 2.5 overall.
3.3 Draft. Amber beer with a cream colored head. light malt and light citrus aroma. Malt and light grapefruit flavor with light pine. Medium bodied. Light grapefruit and light pine linger with light malt.
3.2 Draught as a 5 oz sampler at Pyramid in Sacramento, CA, on April 23, 2011 Clear deep amber color, white head. Sweet, fruity, hoppy taste. Dry hoppy aftertaste. Moussy mouthfeel that tingles on your toungue, medium high bitterness. Sweet malty scent. Earlier Rating: 4/27/2011 Total Score: 4 Draught as a 5 oz sampler at Pyramid in Sacramento, CA, on April 23, 2011 Marked as 5.1% ABV and as a nitro version of MacTarnahan’s Amber Clear golden color, smooth yellowish head. Fruity, citrus, hoppy taste. Citrus aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Malty, sweet, fruity, citrus, hoppy scent. I tried it side by side with MacTarnahan’s Amber and seems it would be hard that the beer would be this much better if the only difference was nitro-co2 mix instead of co2, feels really as a different (and for me better) beer.
2.8 Sample from the sacramento location. Clear copper in color. Aroma is almost non-existent. Flavor is sweet and malty with a light hop finish. Palate is very light bodied with low carbonation. Overall a decent but very mild beer.
3.0 Hint of grapefuit, but subdued. Deep golden color with thick, off-white head. Grassy bitterness to start, almost hay like. Tasts like a copious amount of dry hops. Malt rounds and slightly softens the taste. Medium body with malty finish. Tastes more like a well hopped pale.
3.2 12 ounce bottle thanks to Craig. Pours a mostly clear amber color with a large white head. A sweet biscuit and floral hop aroma. A fruity flavor with some caramel and biscuit, lots of pine. Interesting, pretty hoppy.
3.1 12oz bottle thanks to Uly Appearance: Clear amber with a nice foamy white head and some lacing Aroma: Malts, caramel and floral Taste: Malts, pine with a slightly bitter finish A decent Amber, especially for the price and easy drinkability
